Hi! I want to improve my skills and understanding of charts. What would you suggest the best ways to do this? Practicing and having feedback/answers available to see how accurate my interpretations are?

Thanks for your help-you guys are amazing! Great community.

Take 3 people from different walks of lifebut with common aspects/placements.Then look for a common thread.

Size this up against interpretations read online, then draw a conclusion.

Always go back to tweet and relook for all angles. Clues are always there and additional info too.

Leo 6th, Sun in Virgo,Virgo 5th house for instance have a common thread. One who finds self expression or creative expression through work or through structure, form and refinement.

1.) Obtain the chart of a wrinkly that has lived long enough to have become familiar with how the astrological indicators in his/her natal chart have manifested; is comfortable with confronting his/her shadow and is willing to openly admit to any issues that your analysis might reveal.

2) Keep aspect orbs tight ... to focus your analysis upon dominant natal issues/patterns/themes that a person of average sensitivity is likely to be consciously aware of.

3) Engage your right-brain from the outset, via a holistic examination of the chart. ... This will help you to synthesise your detailed/left-brain analyses and interpretations of the astrological indicators (i.e.. to see the person, rather than his/her chart).

Here is the chart of myself - a 71 year old wrinkly (born on 20th November 1948) - with aspect orbs set at 3 degrees maximum.

What does your initial holistic analysis reveal? ... http://www.astro.com/astrology/opa_article191119_e.htm

Is your initial analysis helped or hampered by setting the maximum aspect orb to 6 degrees?

Following this, a deeper insight will be provided into chart shapes, aspect pictures and aspect patterns by combining them with the information gained from midpoints and harmonics."

Do as many as you can and pick people's brains about how they feel the aspects. You have to truly want to learn astrology to go from beginner to intermediate. House Rulers helps you to put the different parts together, too. My goal was to make a 3 D person from a chart and it took quite a while to get there but if you want it, you can do it!

I am making charts of most of the people I currently know and talking to or making charts of people I previously knew very well. I start by slowly learning the times of birth for most of them. So by doing that I slowly learn more about a hand full of people. Then I discuss their aspects with them if they are interested. It's a good way to learn I think.

Thank you! That's a great pattern to look out for.

Graham, are you a teacher? I feel like you break things down and make it easier to digest before moving up the next level. I tried your method with the four charts I have on hand and the advice is helping with a more structured approach.

May I review your chart and come back to this thread with questions?

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement! I feel like I'm still barely scratching the surface.

Agree! I need a variety of charts too to really get a grasp of how everything's expressed. Let's do our best!

Not a teacher ... a father/grand-father (in the home) and a manager (in the workplace).

Apologies for not replying earlier to this, cthonicstar ... I only saw/noticed it today.

Ill-health enabled me to retire from my career at the age of 44. This left me not needing to work (for an income), and curious about how I had arrived at this watershed moment in my life. So, I took up the study of astrology as a full-time hobby ... because it provided a mentally-stimulating occupation (to replace my work/career), and a mechanism for exploring how my life had unfolded/brought me to this watershed event.
