Knowflakes,

Which sign represents the father in the chart? Eg. Cancer represents the mother. Thus, where ever Cancer is in your chart will always describe your mother, or your relationship with her.

Following this train of thought, what sign would describe the father? I know the Sun, as a planet, will describe the father. However, does any one sign have the same significance?

Astrologers generally consider the Cancer/Capricorn and 4th/10th axes to indicate the parents.

Traditionally, Cancer/4th/Moon is taken as Mother and Capricorn/10th/Sun (in a female chart) or Saturn (in a male chart) is taken as Father. ... However, modern/psychological astrology sees the mother/father role as interchangeable (which does indeed more accurately reflect modern western-world societies).

In the Huber School of Astrology, Father=Sun; Mother=Saturn and Moon=child/chart-owner ... whereas other astrology schools use Father=Sun; Mother=Moon and Venus/Mars = female/male chart-owner.

In my own chart ... Saturn = grand-mother (as she provided the mother energy) ... Sun = mother (as she provided the father energy) ... Moon = child/chart-owner/me. ... And that reflects my real-world-situation, because my father's work took him away from the home for 12 hours on 6 days of the week - so (from the child's perspective) he did not provide the everyday-father-energy ... and is instead a Sunday-Father combination of Uranus+Jupiter in my natal chart.

Sample reports written by knowledgeable authors are useful for identifying what to look at (and why) ... http://keplerastrology.com/hidden-messages-sample-english

And medieval astrology is also a useful tool if looking for people (symbolised by planets) in a natal chart ... http://www.medievalastrologyguide.com/planets-are-people.html

Thanks, Graham.

Forgot about the 10th/4th axis. For some reason I thought Leo was the sign of the father.

So Capricorn as a sign represents the father.

Turns out the moon is involved in two polarities: Sun-Moon, and Saturn-Moon.

The Sun-Moon axis is concerned with gender and creation. While Saturn-Moon subjective and objective. Our emotional needs and how we feel, versus, what needs to get down above all else.

I have Moon in 3rd house, Cancer on 11th house cusp. This describes my mom, among other things.

I have Sun conjunct MC, Saturn in the 12th. I can see Sun conjunct MC in my relationship with my Dad. If Saturn in 12 is supposed to mean discipline with 12th house matters, I can see that in him too. He has moon in Scorpio so was tight lipped about occult things. However, as I've investigated such things, I can tell he's familiar with some astrology or numerology.

I have Leo on the 12th house cusp, this happens to be my Dad's Sun sign. While our relationship has a nebulous quality to it, I also have a tight Sun-Neptune opposition.

Capricorn is on my 5th house cusp. While I see Saturn as dour and un-fun. Capricorn give off a different energy in my view. Capricorn, I've observed, is the part of the zodiac where material dreams come true.

Leo is the sign of creativity (symbolising the seed-sower) ... so can indicate the actual father in a person's chart (like Uranus and Jupiter in my chart).

So Capricorn as a sign represents the father.

Capricorn is the sign of authority ... so indicates the person that the chart-owner perceived as having that role (which, traditionally, was the father).

It describes how you see her ... which may not be the way she actually is - and could be very different to how she is perceived by someone with (say) Moon in Sagittarius/9th.

Again though ... the Sun describes how you see him - which may not be how he actually is.

And, thus, more indicative of the way he actually is.

Modifying your perception of Father.

Capricorn impels us to act responsibly ... and Saturn rewards us for doing so, by making our dreams come true.

Thought about this some more.

Saturn is authority figures (not exclusive to fathers) & Sun is the idealized image of what a "Father" should be I think.

We all experience a period of being forced/encouraged to grow up during the Saturn return.

During the time, we interact with authority figures that want us to become more, do more and achieve etc. Sometimes this authority may come more internally. And the pressure builds.

I noticed that with trans Neptune in Pisces trine natal Saturn, the "father" role changed in my life in 2016. Also trans Sat in Sag was conj natal Uran in Sag at the time.

Trans Jup in Scorpio conjunct natal Saturn in Scorpio is when I became an Uncle-again this is an "authority" role to my nephew. He jas Jupiter conj Asc.

I didn't notice any fundamental changes in authority or "father" role when Saturn was transiting my Sun by conjunction nor with the Jupiter transit.

So i think that the Sun may represent what kind of father we aspire to be or the kind we respect etc. Kind of like "God the father who art in heaven " etc.

But Saturn is "Father on earth". The real, tangible, restrictive and physical essence of being "schooled" by life through physical punishment and/or conditioning through life lessons teaching yout what is "wrong" and "right" etc.

I will watch closely with the upcoming Uranus in Taurus opp natal Saturn as to what changes there are to authority figures or the changes in the meaning of the word itself in my world

#I have my Jupiter conjunct my Dad's Saturn. So when Jupiter was transiting his Saturn in 83, he became a father.

#My little sister(Nephews Mom) had transiting Jupiter trine her natal Saturn in Pisces. She became a Mom in 2018. My nephew as earlier mentioned has Jupiter in Scorpio in house 1.

#Mom has Saturn in Cap square my Asc in Aries. This is typical of parent-child patterns to establish "authority". It could be a trine/sextile/opp between Asc/Sun/Moon between parent and child.

#Mom had my sister(2nd oldest) when trans Jupiter in Aries square her natal Saturn. And then finally the third child (little sis) when Jupiter/Saturn were sextile her natal Saturn.

I think Saturn is responsibility.
