T. Jupiter has been conjuncting my Cap Mercury Sun conjunction (which has about a 7 and half degree separation) for a little while. Both Mercury and Sun are sensitive/receptive/important symbols in my chart, and Jupiter is natally highlighted.

Anyways, it's been interesting to observe that my mind/perceptions have definitely been feeling more expanded, broad, intuitive, inspired, and holistic in nature than usual, but at the same time I've also noticed above average spelling and grammatical mistakes in my writing.

It's like there has been a shifting to the more right brain side, slightly at the detriment of the left brain/analytical, linear logical, fine details oriented side.

Though I'm pretty attuned to Jupiter natally, I'm also fairly attuned to Mercury as well, since it's conjunct my ruling Planet, the Sun, and rules my N. Node, Jupiter, Mars, and Saturn Signs of Virgo--Saturn being especially significant since it rules my Sun and Mercury Signs (Capricorn) and co-rules my Venus and DESC Signs (Aquarius). There is sort of a mutual exchange/interconnection between Capricorn and Virgo in this chart.

But it feels like of late, Mercury, Virgo, and Capricorn are being a bit damped down in lieu of Jupiter becoming more highlighted. And while I see Jupiter as fairly "whole brain" oriented, and more so than pretty much any other symbol, I would say that it's slightly tilted perhaps to the right brain side of things, meaning as to the intuitive, gestalt, big picture/forest (instead of individual trees), symbolic, feeling, more spiritual/nonphysical, non linear, etc levels and side of perception.

Hence, I can see in a practical sense, why Mercury doesn't feel as comfortable or "work as well in it's own fashion" in Sagittarius and Pisces, as Mercury is very much about the left brain side of perception of details, linear step by step logic, analyzing, etc

Also, there is some fire to Jupiter, where self feels this urge to "get it all out there" quickly and fully, beyond the norm, and the speed and urgency of communication also interferes with the specific details aspect such as related to spelling and grammar. It's like I'm typing just as fast as I can and as the info flows through.

Mercury, especially in it's more Virgo type side, is more innately cautious and "let's carefully think things through here", and Jupiter is like, "let's throw caution to the wind and say whatever is in my mind and heart for all the world to see". Yet, they both have a lot to do with perception and communication.

Anyways, figured the above observations might be helpful to some of those who are more so starting to learn astrology, and to understand why a Planet might be less comfortable in it's opposite Signs and the reasons why.

Ultimately though, I see them as necessary complements that balance and help each other out. Just like the opposite Sign pairings in general. They (opposite signs), more than any other Sign relationships, need each other for a greater balance/wholeness. And that's why their connection correlates with a 7-7 House connotation, because it's most often in close relationships, mirroring, and attracting in others what we have repressed or consciously lack, that we tend to come to greater self awareness and integration.

Sometimes I wonder how this all applies to Synastry. Because in Synastry, we most often focus on the Signs, Houses/House rulers, and direct aspects. But what about general attunements beyond same. As I've noted time and time again on this site, one's strongest Planet(s) is so important to understanding a person's natal and overall attunement sans freewill.

This might have implications beyond the Signs etc. Say a person has a predominant Jupiter--will they tend to attract or strongly be attracted to those with a very strong Mercury, whether Planetary and/or Sign wise or vice versa?

Or someone with strong Sun will be attracted to someone with a strong Uranian attunement, whether Planet and/or Sign wise or vice versa?

Or say a Lunar person in relation to someone with strong Saturn, either Planet and/or Sign wise (especially Cap) or vice versa?

Etc, etc.

This might be a somewhat overlooked level of synastry that doesn't often seem to be discussed.

Mercury and how the debilitations work was a little confusing at first, but I've got it figured out at this point.

I tend to think of Mercury as fragments of information, and how this information is absorbed and communicated to each other. This realm is comfortable for Gemini and Virgo because they are mental/logic-oriented signs. They deal with the pure logic behind things even though they go about doing this very differently. The scattered about fragments of information contained in Mercury is comfortable for Gemini and Virgo for Gemini naturally lives in this sort of randomness and is naturally comfortable with it "hence being called the Jack of All Trades". Virgo can assimilate this information and mentally organize it, using this information to best help them.

Sagittarius, on the other hand, is driven by philosophy and heart. They are interested in learning more about the world but it's a fiery passion they have deep inside. Because of this, they tend to get emotionally attached to their philosophy and beliefs and this can lead them astray, as they sometimes think too much with their heart and not their mind. To top it off, they also are constantly expanding their knowledge. Therefore, they have trouble dealing with little bits of information in contrast to dealing with the bigger picture, something that is a very trademark Sagittarius trait. This can help them with not being obsessed with minor inconsistencies but it can also cause them to overlook important bits of info and they can struggle with attention to detail. They look at the whole forest, not the individual trees. Sagittarius is very strong in philosophy but philosophy isn't going to get you anywhere when you need to deal with the facts of the situation.

Pisces, on the other hand, is more emotionally vulnerable and sensitive than Sag and also isn't as driven to explore. They are more a mental sponge for everything that is around them. They can also be emotionally driven into their thoughts and logic behind things and that can cause issues as well. They can be very creative people but you won't see them giving out a long speech on quantum physics. Very abstract; they can also struggle with naivety and being deluded into certain beliefs and thought patterns, and it's because they are so sensitive to their environment. The experiences they go through shapes how they think, especially since Pisces Mercury can be a sponge for information.

I could keep going but it just gets more intricate. I can't say too much since there are other factors in the natal chart that can affect things as well.

Well said. Yeah, I agree, and that's similar to what I was saying.

I know that left brain and right brain has in the past been over simplified and polarized, and that unless a person has brain damage, we all use both sides of the brain more or less.

However, I can't but help to shake the feeling that they are indeed very different, and that some people do tend to use one side more than another as a trend.

And Mercury, Saturn, and Mars are very left brain oriented, and Moon, Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune are more right brain.

With Jupiter and Pluto being a bit more innately whole brain than other symbols, but kind of tilted to the right brain side of things.

Sun seems to be even more whole brain/balanced/integrated than Jupiter and Pluto. I think to get to the Sun, symbolically and spiritually speaking, the intellect and the heart have to be consciously merged.

I'm not talking about the Sign Leo, which I see some big difference with as compared to the Sun. But the Sun as a deeper archetype.

Mercury in sagittarius is my least favorite placement. I'm actually not a big fan of Jupiter or Sag but then again, my south node and descendant are placed there. Also, I'm heavy Earth and water with an Aries Mercury and sag irks me with their philosophical ideas without any foundation. Like, come on people, put your money where your mouth is! I don't have the patience to deal lol (even with a taurus sun and venus).

I have a 12H and scorpio stellium and Jupiter, to me, brings out way too much too soon if left to its own devices. I understand perfectly what your saying with Jupiter conuuncting your merc/sun in capricorn. I can't imagine that would be an easy mix. Capricorn being steady and purposeful, somewhat reserved with Jupiter/sag influence opening it right up without even asking first. So rude.

Lol, I happen to rather like Jupiter Dons...

But yes, I suppose Jupiter can be a little rude in a sense.

Don't you have Gemini Rising?

Hypothetically, shouldn't you be rather attracted or unconsciously drawn to Sagittarius and/or Jupiter type energy?

Yes I do, and no I'm not 😂 I've only dated one Sag and he had sun, Merc, and Neptune there. It was probably the worst relationship I've ever been in. I made a post a while back about me not really being attracted to this energy. I think it has to do with my south node and retrograde Uranus being in my 7H and, I'm a taurus sun which is quincunx sag. I find them too boisterous and rude.

And also, I have 6 retrogrades including Jupiter (in my 8H) so the way I experience this energy is more internal. When someone's planet, especially Jupiter because of it's natural nature, has a bigger effect or tries to draw out my planets/signs I don't have an easy time with that.

Yeah, it makes sense that with Sag. S. Node, you might have a strong feeling of "been there, done that, don't need any more" in a sense.

I also have Jupiter retrograde. Definitely somewhat more internally focused. Also so because it's in a Yin Sign. Jupiter is not particularly comfortable in Virgo, but in my case, when it's otherwise so strong, it acts as a balance and tones it down a bit. I am highly philosophical in some ways, but also highly pragmatic and practical. Holistic, internally consistent logic and verification are important grounders for me.

I recently have been arguing some with a friend (more acquaintance) that has Sag Sun and other Sag indications, and it's like he lacks groundedness of details and logic, and doesn't use discernment or discrimination enough. It's like he believes in something just because it sounds really high minded and novel, but not necessarily something with holistic logic or verification backing it up. Meaning, it's not even necessarily based on personal experience.

I might talk about ET's and the like, but I have had some in my face experiences with these and know for a fact they exist. It's not an intellectually based "theory".

He's also a wee bit over full of himself/big in the britches. He's been on a conscious spiritual path for like 6 years, with a good portion of it being fairly intellectual, and he was telling me what's up with reality. So I dug in, and applied a little Capricornian tough love, and pointed out to him that consistency of time, effort, discipline, focus, positive service to others, etc. certainly does matter on such a path, and pointed out that I've been plugging away at this for 28 years.

That and he's just so wrapped up in self in general. We recently let him live here rent free for almost two months, as well as gave him some food over that time. He went through a major break up/heartache. Anyways, in return we asked him to mow the leaves (we prefer to mulch them). While he did some pruning, he never did what we actually asked him to do.

He recently contacted my partner, and said he would come over for 2 hrs, and that he had other things to do. She was like, 2hrs for all that free rent and some food--pretty good deal for you dude. He doesn't even seem to realize how self centered he is, and yet he thinks he is rather unusually enlightened.

Anyways, I see this as the immature expression of Sagittarius. Jupiter is not the same thing as Sagittarius. I always explain to folks that to really understand Jupiter's energy as is, you have to blend/mix about 55 to 60% Sagittarius to about 45 to 40% Pisces. Jupiter is less bombastic, fiery, and more sensitive than Sagittarius, but more active, less mystic than Pisces.
