Celeste Teal, Identifying Planetary Triggers; Chapter Five: THE LUNAR RETURN, pg. 131-133 "Using the Lunar Return with the Solar Return
In order to break down cycles and more accurately time important events, the Lunar Return can also be used in conjunction with the Solar Return. Using the Solar and Lunar returns together is far more effective for predictive purposes than using either of them alone. There are thirteen lunar periods that fall within the Solar Return period, each of which is predictive of the following four weeks. By using the Solar Return chart as a foundation, connections between it and the subsequent Lunar Returns will show the trend of events for each of the lunar periods.
The Lunar Return that most closely matches the Solar Return by house cusps and/or planetary configurations usually coincides with the most eventful and climatic time period for the year. Important issues and events signified in the Solar Return will usually peak during this Lunar Return period. Occasionally, more than one Lunar Return will meet this criterion during the year, indicating multiple peaks. As we saw in an earlier illustration in this chapter, occasionally a Lunar Return that matches the next Solar Return reflects important developments leading to the next phase of personal development. Important angular ties between the Solar and Lunar Returns should be noted for heralding critical times. For example, the Solar Return Midheaven falling on the Lunar Return Ascendant or vice versa. Other peaks are noted by connections between the angles of the Solar Return with the Lunar Return Sun.
The Lunar Return Sun falling on an angle of the Solar Return indicates an especially eventful four-week period. Similarly, when the Lunar Return Sun falls on a degree that activates an important Solar Return configuration, major yearly events indicated by the specific grouping will occur. Rather than simply referring to the motion of the Sun through the Solar Return, special consideration should be given the degree it holds in the Lunar Return. This is a cyclic point, and the exact placements of planets in the return charts are far more reflective of specific events than simple transits.
This technique of superimposing the Lunar Return chart upon the Solar Return will supplement the Lunar Return chart reading. Detailed information comes to light through exact links made between the two charts that would otherwise got unnoticed, and timing can be better established. For example, if a marriage ceremony is indicated in the Solar Return, it is most likely to take place when the Lunar Return Sun lines up with the Solar Return seventh house. Venus and Mars together in the sign of Libra or positioned together in the seventh or tenth house of the Lunar Return would also be appropriate indicators for such an event. The marriage may be the individual's own or someone else's and such details can be found among the remaining chart indicators.
Similarly, being put in the spotlight in one's career is most likely to occur following a Lunar Return in which the Lunar Return sun makes important connections involving the Solar Return tenth house. Events along these lines will be quite spectacular if the Lunar Return for the period finds the Sun on the cusp of the Solar Return tenth house. The days of the most important activity during the Lunar Return period generally correspond with the Moon's transits across the angles of the Lunar Return chart.
One way to easily see the links between the two returns and also tabulate the natal patterns is to run a three-wheel chart, with the Solar Return in the center, the Lunar Return in the middle wheel, and the natal chart on the outside wheel. The alternate method is to make notes upon the Lunar Return, being careful not to overlook important details. This method assists in getting a "feel" for the trend. Ideally, both techniques can be used together.
The Lunar Return may also be used in corroboration with other planetary returns."
