I've had this twice... 2 days before Venus was going retrograde someone I liked in my past popped up... And 2 days before Mercury was going retrograde someone I cut out of my life reached out to me again.

Does this mean that 'I'm' in tune to this energy more or are they?

The Mercury gal, she claims she was born a certain time which would make her a Gemini ascendant, where I was certain she was a Taurus ascendant (which would've been the case if she was born an half hour earlier). However, now with this happening where she reached out, does that mean that Mercury is strong in her chart or in mine? (I'm a Gemini riser too)

And the guy I liked, although I dunno his ToB I thought he was a Libra riser. So the popping back up, does that make Venus strong in his chart or in mine? (Libra rules my fifth and is in my first)

I guess I'm trying to cross examine the ascendant signs. Also, is it really possible that the strength of the energies should kick in before it goes retrograde? And does that make the person rather intuitive?

I think the energy might be stronger when it's stationary direct or retrograde?

What's stationary direct, right before it goes direct?

Retrograde motion is always preceded by a stationary period in which the planet is still -- or is moving forward only very, very slowly. This creates added emphasis to that planet's energy, particularly if it makes an aspect to your chart (in longitude or declination). It doesn't necessarily mean you're more 'in tune' with it.

So for example, back in May Venus moved like this on consecutive days leading up to the Rx period:
May 9 - 21GEM35
May 10 - 21GEM42 <07' total movement that 24-hour period>
May 11 - 21GEM47 <05'>
May 12 - 21GEM49 <02'>
May 13 - 21GEM50-Rx <01'>

Slower movement is part of what creates the power of the outer planets, but when it is case Venus (closest to Earth besides Moon), it is more powerful than an outer. In recent years this pre-retrograde period has been dubbed "shadow period", but is a simple geocentric planetary motion that has been long understood by astrologers the world over.
