Okay "everything" may be an exaggeration, heh, but of all the things in my chart, I get the most frustrated/confused with my North Node (and south node) so any insight or advice would really be appreciated here!

I just finished reading Pam Gregory's book on the nodes ("How to Co-Create..."), and while I enjoyed it overall, I was still left with questions about the North Node, typically how to better navigate/pursue it when there are several "challenging" aspects towards it, or even when it's very isolated in one's natal chart!

For instance, I have a 4H/10H nodes. NN = Virgo 4th, SN = Pisces 10th. Secondly, there's a lot of Mercury themes in my chart: My North Node is in Virgo (4th); Mercury opposes it, as it's placed in my 10H Pisces -- a sign in which it's in fall; Mercury tightly conjuncts my sun (1 degree) so it's blended into my ego; AND Gemini is my ascendant, which happens to square both NN and Mercury here.

I get that's the point of the North Node, to challenge you in general BUT...what about the case when one's Sun or their chart ruler positively aspects their NN? Wouldn't that make it easier for those individuals?

I guess for myself, I'm confused because if the South Node = past life, then for me it was about being career-oriented or embracing Pisces qualities...but in this life, I still have several planets in Pisces and my 10th? So...it just seems incredibly contradictory/counter-productive to me at the moment, so why? I hope this makes sense!

Think of that past life as having ingrained (in you) the behavioural traits relating to the qualities of the planets which are conjunct your South Node ... and the planets which are conjunct your North Node as having qualities that can help you to overcome those ingrained behavioural traits in your current lifetime.

The contradiction reflects the conflict between your habitual/instinctive South Node behaviour and the North Node behaviour that your soul intends you to develop during your current incarnation.

SN -> to -> NN development is always a push-pull conflict ... "I was born with well-developed Pisces skills" -> BUT -> "in this lifetime, I am developing new Virgo skills" ... and the planets conjunct my NN are helping me do so, whilst those conjunct my SN are impelling me to remain within my comfort zone/use only the skills with which I was born".

And planets making positive aspects to both nodes are "easing the conflict" ... whilst those making negative aspects to both nodes are "releasing the tension of the conflict".

Set your mind to achieving balance -- at the level of your soul -- and you don't have to overthink the astrological particulars.

What the squares suggest is that you'll have to bring those energies strongly to aims of moving forward long-term even when you don't have a clear picture of what the end result should look like (the vast majority of us don't). What the conjunctions to S.Node suggest is that you will have to rely on the confidence of what you've already built up and are most familiar with as your launching point, which may be useful every time you feel stuck or unsure.

You'll have to start with S.Node related energies. Don't put yourself on the horns of a non-existent dilemma that S.Node = 'bad' or what you must leave behind, and N.Node = the cosmic 'should' that you must become aligned with exclusively. It doesn't work that way. Any polarity (or perceived polarity) is reciprocal by nature. You can't engage only one end of a bat when playing baseball, and you cannot engage only one end of the Lunar Node axis in soul development.

Aspect alignments with the Lunar Nodes increase the relevance of those planetary energies in your soul development, adding a sense of urgency to your soul development and importance to your decisions. In other words, bring your whole self to the development of your soul with a sense that each life decision will either create or undermine it.

Allow yourself to recognize and accept what you developed well in your past lives, even if it was a bit overdeveloped. Allow yourself to use that in moving forward and developing further.

This Lunar Node axis suggests that you're a bit too dreamy/conceptual and need to add practice of practicalities as essential to living out the dream. But that doesn't mean you toss out the intuitive/imaginative/conceptual/dreaming, but that you add to it the practical. With N.Node at the Virgo end a healthy focus for you is on perfecting or improving through practice -- repetition, attention to relevant material/body details as essential in the follow-through of completion of an effort.

One of the main things I would say with the Pisces SN/Virgo NN axis (mainly when you also have Sun/Mercury in Pisces).. is that you really have to learn to focus on your physical body and not neglect either your needs, desires or overall physical health.

Pisces can be a very spiritual sign, sometimes to the point of self-sacrificing and really forgetting all about themselves. I remember my ex who is Aquarius, but has Pisces Moon/Mercury saying things like “the body is just a vessel for the soul”... and... “We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience.. We are spiritual beings having a physical experience”.

And there is something genuinely beautiful about this train of thought ^ ... I also have Pisces in my chart (Mercury/Jupiter) so I can relate to those quotes to an extent.

But when you have your North Node in an earth sign (mine is Taurus btw)... I think it’s important to understand that we are actually *both* physical and spiritual beings. These are both aspects of simply being human and they are not “contradictory... It’s important to at least try to reach a mind/body/soul balance...
I would say yoga, for instance, is a fantastic way to blend the spirituality of Pisces with the physicality of Virgo! 🙂
