For the purpose of this thread, I am assuming/accepting that Return Charts are valid; that all planets from Sun to Pluto produce Return Charts and that the astrological indicators of a Return Chart relate specifically to the part of our personality/life which is symbolised by the Returning Planet. So ... for example ... The Saturn Return Chart is valid and relates specifically to the unfolding of the natal Saturn "promise" for the 30 years during which it will be active. These assumptions are based entirely upon my own experience, and I am not seeking to have them discussed/validated/disproved on this thread. ... So, if you choose to make a comment here, please base it upon the premise that my assumptions are correct. __________________________________________________________________ With the validity of the above assumptions being accepted as a "given" ... my question is :- Is the purpose of the Saturn Return Chart described by its Sun? ... Or is it described by its Saturn? _________________________________________________________________ To provide a focus/example for the general discussion of this topic, my own First Saturn Return Chart is posted below. ... However, this thread is not intended to be about me/my chart specifically - so, I believe it belongs here (rather than, say, on the Personal Reading board) and ask the moderators not to move it elsewhere. _________________________________________________________________ My natal Saturn is part of a Kite configuration that has Jupiter as its 'peak planet' (to which everything else is orientated). ... So, the promise of that Kite is 'the outlook of Jupiter will change/expand in the current lifetime' - and the natal promise of Saturn is to help Jupiter to change/expand. But ... in the posted Saturn Return Chart ... is it the Sun or is it Saturn which describes that promise/purpose? IP: Logged |

HOW THE POSTED SATURN RETURN CHART MANIFESTEDThis Chart was active for the 30 years from September 1978 to July 2008, when the chart owner (me) was aged 30 to 60. When it began, he was in the process of sinking into a mild depression - due to the fact that he had fallen some 3 years behind his peers, in a public-sector-accountancy career. ... At the time though, he was not consciously aware of being depressed (until his wife pointed out that he had stopped interacting with her and their two children, aged 4 and 7). The turning point came in April 1980, when he moved to a firm of private sector accountants ... remaining there until October 1983, and gaining some 10 years of experience - which put him some 3 years ahead of his peers in the public sector. He then returned to the public sector, where he was responsible for managing staff until he retired early (due to ill-health) in May 1993. Since then, he has studied astrology as a full-time pass-time ... but as a self-taught student, rather than via formal courses with one or more recognised schools of astrology. In July 2008 (as his 2nd Saturn Return began), he finally felt confident enough to test his understanding of astrology by joining/participating with others in forum discussions. ... Thus discovering that he still had much to learn, and could not do so without interacting with others. _________________________________________________________________ Hence, there is no doubt in my mind that 'the outlook of Jupiter was changed/expanded' during the period when that First Saturn Return was active. ... But, I am having difficulty in determining whether that purpose is "promised" by the Sun or by Saturn in the Return Chart.

Got it now (I think). The chart as a whole reveals the unfolding of the natal Saturn promise (to help Jupiter change/expand). ... So Sun, Saturn and all other planets should be delineated/interpreted as though the Saturn Return Chart was a natal chart. Thus, this Sun shines via the midpoint tree that has Venus at the midpoint of Sun/Neptune, on the 5th house cusp (29Sag46). ... And, by doing so (from the 5th house of pass-times), it contributes just one piece to the jigsaw - albeit an important one. Similarly, this Saturn's promise is in the midpoint tree that has North Node at the midpoint of Saturn/Pluto, in 4th house of psychological foundations ... adding another piece to the jigsaw. So ... (imo) ... IF Return Charts are valid, they describe the unfolding of the returning-planet's NATAL "promise" for the period during which it will be active ... And, as stand-alone charts (rather than transit-to-natal charts) their astrological indicators should be analysed, interpreted and synthesised in the same way as natal charts.
