Does it make any sense to look at progressed and solar arc superimposed positions with each other? e.g. progressed planet A conjunct solar arc planet B? if none of them is touching the natal?

No I don't think so. Progressed is current lifetime karmic status, solar arc is Gods timing.

athenegoddess, that's interesting, never thought of the difference between the two this way.

Can't the 2 kinds of timing intersect?

I don't really combine the two. For each chart it should be noted when the planets change signs. Everything else in between is pretty boring to me.
