Chris McCandless is the guy who went up to Alaska to get away from society and all its dysfunction. To some extent, he was just living the life path set out for him as someone with Aquarius Sun, Aries North Node, and possibly Aries MC.

But, he ended up dying relatively young. In his notebooks, he had written shortly before he died something like (paraphrased), "Happiness not real, unless shared with others". Talk about coming back full round to the Libra South Node. Perhaps he could have, and should have integrated his desire and need for independence with his desire and need for sharing more?

Eddie Vedder wrote a song that encapsulated Chris's life and path. http://youtu.be/e0RIlo3-0GA

Hi GCE, thank you for sharing your story. You seem to be going through a very difficult time right now. It is hard to set boundaries because when someone crosses that line there are consequences. But it is also very important to set those boundaries when you realize you are unhappy with the current situation.

When I first realized something needed to change because I was miserable in my marriage, I asked my ex to go into relationship therapy together with me. He refused and I decided to go into therapy by myself to figure out what I wanted. It took me several months before I was ready to take the next step. A strange synchronicity happened to me today. Two instagram accounts that I follow posted the same quote by Confucius and both times it really struck a chord with me: “It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”

Maybe it is that Taurus in my chart, but I find it really comforting that you do not need to make big changes all at once to achieve your goals. Just as long as you keep going in the right direction, you'll get there eventually.

Aries on the other hand is very much act first and think later. Chris McCandless' Aries north node did not do him any favors. He went out into the wilderness while he was lacking the right equipment and skills. He was very unprepared. What I understand about the nodes is that you need to prevent big fluctuations between the north and south node but try to go for a balance between the two. Not an easy task though.

Anyway, a big hug from me and I wish you much wisdom for your next step.

Thank you for the reply, and for also sharing more of your account PlutoWasHere. Yes, agreed, boundaries can be hard to do, especially for people with very strong Venus, 7th House, Libra, Neptune, Jupiter, Pisces, and/or 12 House--especially if there is a combo of these highlighted.

Really cool about the Confucius synchronicity. Seems like it was like a message from your guidance for you. But as we are all unique individuals, what is best for one path, is not necessarily the best for another's path. There only a few Universal truths.

McCandless's case is a bit more complex than many seem to believe. For the most part, he was doing pretty ok, but experienced a bit of a perfect storm of conditions. It is extremely hard to live in Alaska completely by yourself. Most people would not have survived for a couple months, let alone 114 days.
The mild poisoning/toxicity from a plant very close looking to another plant, and then the river flooding in combo is what really did him in. Could he have stood to be more prepared and practiced, yes, most likely, but he wasn't a total noob by any account.

Also, the North Node doesn't really indicate much about one's personality per se. It indicates what kind of life path you need to be moving more towards and integrate with your South Node. People with Aries North Node, aren't necessarily "Arian like" in temperament like people with Aries Sun, Asc, Moon, etc. But, they do need to become more self reliant, independent, and self focused in a positive, healthy way (shares some similarities with North Node in the 1st).

Thank you for the intention hug and well wishes, and here is one back.

I agree with you that everyone has their own journey even though there might be similar themes. I find the nodes fascinating in that regard. The houses are probably more dominant than the sign as the nodes stay in one sign for 18 months. Chris had a H9 north node. I think that his desire to rely on himself in the Alaskan wilderness also had a strong spiritual meaning to him.

Venus is very dominant in my chart, Libra rising and Venus conjunct Jupiter. And I struggle with boundaries a lot. My Virgo Moon probably doesn’t help either.

Thank you! I had a couple of bad days recently. I have taken certain steps to become more physically active. I made a new training schedule with my fitness instructor and I will be taking kickboxing classes starting this week. But I realized that even if I do all this, I am still hurting on the inside. I am still in emotional pain and it will probably stay with me for some time. You might be right about the guidance. To me it felt very comforting knowing that healing takes time and that it’s alright to need that time.

I was going to read this. I sometimes wish that I could be one of those people who can take off into the wilderness, and just do their own thing, but I could never do it. I am feeling like I need more real time alone, rather than on here, though. I am depressed, but managed to clear my head and relax, doing my own thing overnight. I have no idea what I'm going to do, but I can't take certain things right now.

Funny that you mention the kickboxing classes PlutoWasHere. When we were talking about your Mars Saturn conjunction, I had thought about recommending kickboxing as a healthy way to deal with that combo and with potential repressed/suppress anger (very common with Mars conjunct Saturn ime). Both Mars and Saturn like and need a more physical way to "get things out" at times.

Anyways, I didn't because I figured that might be presupposing too much on my end. Plus, you may have already started it when I was thinking of it, and thus it wouldn't have been necessary.

As far as the emotional pain..yeah, that part is trickier, and sometimes it just takes time and distance.

Yeah, definitely agree, Into the Wild is a good and touching movie. Give it maybe a 7 or 7.5 out of a 10. I also really like the soundtrack a lot (perhaps even more than the movie).

It is something I noticed too when I researched the aspect. I have been involved in martial arts classes before. I actually met my ex there. He has Mars conjunct Saturn as well. So there probably is something to this aspect.
When the kids were born, I stopped because I found it too difficult to fit into my busy schedule. I definitely need some physical outlet now and there is a kickboxing school nearby so it was an easy decision.

Don't worry GSE. I don't get offended easily, when a suggestion comes from a kind heart it is always good. And if it does upset me, I have kickboxing classes as an outlet now...

Sometimes I feel like retreating from all human contact as well. When I feel like my efforts are not appreciated or when I feel rejected as a person, my instinct is to completely close off. Maybe it's my H8 stellium or my Cancer Mars. It has helped me when a started taking walks after dinner to clear my head.

A big hug from me!
