Actor Keanu Reeves recently had his birthday and to me he always seems like a very cool and down to earth person. I wanted to look at his birth chart and see if my impression of him would fit the interpretation of his chart. Because I'm still a beginner in astrology I could use a bit of help. Any additional insights would be appreciated!

https://www.astro-charts.com/persons/chart/keanu-reeves/

Highlights
Keanu has a Virgo Rising, Mutable Earth, this indicates an introverted personality, someone that is very dedicated to their work but is also prone to self criticism and worrying. Virgo is known to be humble and dedicated to service. A very practical sign that likes tangible results but as it is ruled by Mercury, and it's the sign where Mercury is exalted, also very intellectual and strongly influenced by mental activity. Chart Ruler Mercury and his Sun are also in Virgo, making Virgo characteristics very dominant in his personality. The humility and orientation to service are probably heightened because Mercury and Sun are both located in H12. The house of selflessness and compassion.

His Sun and Mercury conjunction in Virgo are opposite his Saturn in Pisces. This probably gives a certain seriousness to his personality. It can also indicate restrictions and hardships in his life or a sense of rejection and loneliness. Saturn is located in his H6 and indicates that he takes his work very serious, but that it can also be a source of frustration. People with Saturn in H6 have a strong need for structure and routine.

His Moon is in Cancer, Cardinal Water. Another sign that is dominant in his chart and most likely his personality. His Venus and Mars are also in Cancer. As his Moon is in domicile in Cancer and in H11, expression of his emotions probably feel very natural to him. Even though he is naturally introverted and is reluctant to bother other people with his emotions, he is not ashamed of his emotions and will share them if it aids a higher humanitarian purpose. His emotions are probably also very important to him as a drive for his actions and he most likely finds it easy to go after the things he wants.

"I don’t want to be part of a world, where being kind is a weakness."
Keanu Reeves

Please let me know if you think this interpretation fits and if you can add some new information to this!

Reeves has an interesting and complex chart, which I will get to in a bit. But first, one of the mistakes a lot of people newer to astrology often make is focusing too much on the Signs and not enough on the planetary strengths. It is not well known, but this degree of focus on Signs is actually a pretty recent development in astrology. Many of the ancients did not focus near as much on Signs as we do, but focused a lot more on planetary strengths.

Interestingly, if you go through a ton of Edgar Cayce's "Life Readings", which almost always begin with an astrological run down before the guidance goes into past life influences--Signs get mentioned very, very little overall, however strongest/most highlighted Planets are QUITE focused on.

And indeed, the more I have gotten into astrology and read full charts, the more I pay attention more to the highlighted Planets than the Signs, though of course I do factor those in as well.

His chart is complex because he has a relatively close conjunction of Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and Pluto to his Asc. It can be hard to figure out what is stronger and/or more predominant in such a case. In general, that combo conjunct the Asc indicates that there is a lot more intensity and complexity to him than first appears with all that Virgo and Cancer highlighted.

As to figuring out which Planet/symbol is overall strongest, sometimes you can go with whatever is closest to the Asc, but in his case, it's important to note that Mercury both the Chart ruler and ruler of the MC i.e. an extremely sensitive point, and it is very closely conjunct the Sun. The Sun and Mercury in turn are conjunct the Asc. The combo of this suggests that it is likely that the Sun is the strongest single Planet in this chart.

The Sun is not very well understood in mainstream astrology. It often gets overly conflated with Leo as if they were the same thing. The Sun potentially though, is the most expanded and fast vibratory symbol of our little system. It is not easy though, to live up to its very fast and expanded vibration. Sometimes it does get "stepped down" into its lower, Leo like octave.

For an example of the Sun "as is", in talking about Edgar Cayce's other life influence who was called Ra Ta and who was unusually spiritually attuned, this guidance said that Ra Ta had entered into the Earth from the dimension that corresponds to the Sun which they called the infinity forces. Infinity is a small word with some pretty big implications.

To put it in other terms, I have noticed that when people are using Solar energy as is, often they have golden light showing up in their aura, and this is pretty rare in general (especially in quantities). When golden light shows up in appreciable amounts, you know you are dealing with a Soul/personality that is very in touch with their own Expanded self nature, and don't really have to be in the Earth for lessons, karma balancing, etc, but are likely only here for service/retrieval reasons.

They live from the higher, spiritual heart, and are starting to awaken/activate the Crown/pituitary.

In Keanu's case, while he may be predominantly Solarian, he still also powerfully attuned to Pluto, Uranus, and Mercury. Uranus and Pluto would indicate a great intensity of the feeling nature, a tendency towards extremes, and a pretty strong intuitive sense, and the Mercury + Virgo would indicate that is mind is sharper and more acute than appears on the surface since he is more introverted (almost all his Signs are Yin/Feminine + Pluto conjunct the Asc).

I would suspect that he has a very big and open heart in some ways (the Sun), and tends towards the very fast vibratory (unusually so) in nature, but sometimes does battle with his lower self as indicated by the also very strong Pluto and Uranus. Generally very self aware/self conscious in the more positive sense of the term.

Thank you for your reply GCE!

I agree with you that his Mercury is very important in his chart. In natal he has Virgo ASC and Gemini MC, in draco he has Gemini ASC and Virgo IC. His draco IC actually conjuncts his natal ASC. The close conjunction between Mercury and the Sun indeed highlights the importance of the Sun in his birth chart.

How would you interpret the importance of H12/Neptune/Pisces in his chart? He has a lot of planets in H12: Sun, Mercury, Uranus and Pluto. His Neptune makes a lot of aspects, sextile his ASC and Sun/Mercury/Uranus/Pluto and trine his Moon/Mars/Venus. And he has his Saturn and DSC in Pisces. It seems like a theme in his chart.

A good way to understand the House cusps is the following clumsy analogy. House cusps are like speakers, spaced a mile apart, emitting a specific, unique tone, however also at different amplitudes/loudness levels.

The Angles are particularly loud. Especially the Asc and MC, and ESPECIALLY the Asc. So pretend you're a planet walking away from one speaker (House cusp) towards another. As you get further and further away from that previous House cusp, the sound of same fades more and more in the background, and as you get closer and closer to the next House cusp, that sound gets louder and louder.

When a Planet is conjunct the Asc, which is a pretty dang loud speaker, the loudest of them all, it means it is pretty close to that speaker. When the conjunction is -1* separation, it means your ear is literally right next to the speaker. But the Asc is so loud, you can hear it very well from even like 9 to 10 degrees away (when a conjunction will start to take place).

This means that Keanu is going to primarily feel/experience those energies in an Asc and thus 1st House kind of way (i.e. self, body, immediate environment), though there will be a bit of a background 12th flavor, especially to the Sun, Mercury, and Uranus which are a bit further away than Pluto (but then again, that is counterbalanced, like mentioned earlier, by Mercury being the ruler of his Asc and MC and closely conjunct the Sun and Uranus while all are conjunct the Asc).

When a Planet is conjunct the Asc, it's like the person becomes a personification, embodiment, and incarnation of that symbol and consciousness to the nth/ultra extent. You cannot become anymore Plutonian or whatever the Planet is, unless the Planet is also in the same Sign as it rules at the same time. (So a person with Libra Pluto conjunct the Asc and a person with Scorpio Pluto conjunct the Asc will both be ultra, strongly Plutonian, but the latter person will be even more so in a more "pure" kind of way.)

This is why in Edgar Cayce's Life readings for himself, not only do they mention his predominant Uranianness multiple times, but also said specific things like, "Uranus at its zenith", because he had Uranus conjunct the Asc. They didn't mean zenith in the locational/astronomical sense, but in the sense of "the time at which something is most powerful". That sums up a Planetary conjunction to the Asc to a T. Literally there is no more highlighted or amplified condition in all of astrology that is possible.

It really doesn't matter too much if that conjunction is from the left or right side of the Asc, especially if it is within say 5 or so degrees. Because once it is within that +/- 5 degree area of the Asc, those Planets become ultra highlighted as part of the very energies of self.

I think any shyness, quietness, or introversion is more related to the combo of very strong Virgo and Cancer with Pluto closest to his Asc as well as a double Angle ruler--Jupiter being in Taurus, rather than to some Planets barely being in the 12th. Uranus being the planet of extremes par excellence, though in a different way than Pluto, it has a very introverted side as well (but sometimes it will go to the polar opposite, and feel super social, and almost extroverted like. Uranus is the kind of energy that could go out and party for a week straight, and then for the next 3 weeks live as a complete shut in).

The Pisces primarily relates to relationships and romance and creativity, since Saturn rules his 5th and is in Pisces, and his Desc is Pisces. It could also be part of the indication of working in film, along with the MC ruler, Mercury sextile Neptune.

Yes, he has a lot of Neptune aspects, but Neptune itself is in a more weak/damped down area of the chart (the 3rd). He seems to have some issues with verbalization. He can be kind of awkward and hesitant during interviews. Probably relates to Scorpio on the 3rd with Scorpio Neptune in the 3rd. Its a combination of being introverted, guarded/secretive, and highly sensitive.

The Neptune aspects and general condition probably relates some to his focus on spirituality and philosophies like Buddhism. He may be a natural mystic in his thinking and perception to some extent. However, multiple aspects can strengthen and highlight a Planet some, but the Cadency counter balances that more strongly. Hence, I would say that Neptune is ultimately "moderately" highlighted in his chart, rather than strong or weak.

It is similar in my chart with Pluto. Pluto is in the 3rd, but it is in a fairly close square with my Sun, which is also my chart ruler, and it is very closely trine my Venus which rules my Moon, MC, Pluto, and 3rd. Hence, all in all, I would say its moderately highlighted and neither strong nor weak.

Traditional astrology considers the Cadent houses in most cases, to be the most damped down/weak/passive areas of the chart. There are some exceptions to that general rule for some specific planets.

I like him too. He seems impossible not to like or at least respect. A truly rare individual in a business fueled by ego.

Ugh, please don't use that site. It's infamous for including extraneous and inaccurate information in their chart interpretations. At least they make a note next to the birth data, "Birthtime accuracy: poor." So why don't they just include the Rodden Rating letter, as is always done at Astrodatabank? http://www.astro.com/astro-databank/Reeves,_Keanu — A better source, by the way. It's rated 'C'because there is no birth time, only a quote from him saying he has "Virgo rising", which is a basis for rectification efforts, but not a certified AA chart.

quote:

The humility and orientation to service are probably heightened because Mercury and Sun are both located in H12.

You sure about that?

quote:

His Sun and Mercury conjunction in Virgo are opposite his Saturn in Pisces. This probably gives a certain seriousness to his personality.

A rather wide orb, but yes. Have any notion where to cut off aspects as they get wider and wider?

I think you're off to a good start as a beginner. Just focus more on learning planets, aspects, and signs with fewer assumptions made regarding houses.

Hi Kannon, thank you for your reaction!

You are right about the poor quality of the birth time. We can't be sure about the Virgo ASC. His strong Virgo and Cancer placements do remain, but it's not sure his chart ruler is Mercury.

A Sun in H12 seems to me someone who's ego is not strongly expressed in their personality. Pisces is the sign of compassion and selfless service. The combination between H12 and the Virgo placements seemed to be a good fit, but I lack experience in these type of interpretations so it could very well lead to another type of expression. I'm not sure about anything when it comes to Astrology.

the tighter the orb, the more relevant the aspect. I have noticed that usually an orb of 6 degrees is used for natal charts to identify the most relevant aspects, but conjunctions and oppositions can go up to 10 degrees orb. I know that the Saturn opposition is pushing into that territory. But because there is a concentration of planets in Virgo and with Saturn in the opposite sign Pisces it seemed very relevant. I've read that when a single planet is opposite a concentration of planets it becomes a sort of funnel.

He does look fairly Virgonian. I've known a number of Virgo Risings where I am pretty sure that the physical birth and energetic connection to the body were fairly close.

@GCE, thank you for your answer!
I find the ASC very interesting. It is such a personal point and I have noticed that with all my significant relationships (family, friends or romantic) there are ASC/DSC contacts. Your analogy with the speakers makes sense to me because it is so relevant for the personal expression of the individual. This makes the correct determination of the ASC very important in reading the chart. This is often very difficult. I'm not sure about the Virgo ASC although I don't think he has an ASC in a fire sign.

When I first made my own birth chart I doubted my birth time. Pluto is in very close conjunction to my ASC. Pluto is at 9Libra22 and my ASC is at 9Libra21. I was born in a hospital because I was a breech baby and born with my feet first. Typical Taurus stubborness. The birth time I used in my birth chart was the birth time recorded by the hospital. I think it's pretty accurate because my best friend has her Aries Sun on my DSC within 1 degree and my ex has his Aries Venus conjunct my DSC within 1 degree. I still struggle with the interpretation of Pluto conjunct the ASC though. I don't associate myself with the darker side of Pluto at all.

Lol, I got that "pass" from some of my black friends. For example, I went to a party that I invited my then housemate/tenant who is black and I was becoming friends with, and my other, longer term friend was there who is black, and he said to my housemate, "Justin is honorary black."

I appreciated the seal of approval, but didn't really know what to say, so just shrugged.

As an ET soul in a human body, I give Keanu my seal of approval. If he isn't also an ET Soul in a human body, well, he may as well be one or definitely gonna be one in the relatively near future..

No problem P.W.H., yeah, its amazing how important it is in synastry, provided one has a relatively accurate chart to work with.

That's one of the ways, besides events, to help to rectify a chart. Go through and look at all the closest relationships and their strongest Signs. Because in particularly close relationships, one of the patterns that shows up a lot is same and opposite signs between different symbols that are the most highlighted, sensitive, and/or personal to those people.

My partners chart and mine, is almost all opposite and same sign.

For example, she has Aqua Sun, Venus, and South Node, Cap Rising, Aries Moon, Pisces Mercury and Mars, and Libra Jupiter and Saturn. Saturn is her chart ruler, and Moon is her Desc ruler.

I have Cap Sun and Merc, Leo Rising, Libra Moon, Aquarius Venus, Virgo Mars, NN, Jupiter, and Saturn. Sun is my chart ruler, and Saturn is the faster moving Desc ruler.

Particularly strong and common in very close relationships is the Sun or Moon being opposite or same Sign as the others Rising, Moon, or Sun (but different symbol to symbol in most cases i.e. Sun to Rising or Moon, or Moon to Rising or Sun).

I've mentioned it, but I don't think physical birth time is necessarily the correct chart. I'm not the only one here that holds that view.

Kannon also does, as he has looked into the Cayce work deeply and been affected deeply by it like myself.

So you may not have a very close Pluto conjunction to your Asc in reality.

At some point, you might want to get some rectification work done.

Also, I would look into Parans, and more specifically see if there is any connection to Arcturus to your Asc. (and/or other angles). If there is, this would tend to lift up the Pluto expression quite a bit.

Arcturus is a very fast vibratory and powerfully so of a symbol. When it comes to ennobling and making things more positive, it is like Jupiter and Sun on roids.
