Or maybe its a good idea to have it in winter to make poeple celebrate adding color and light to the boring winter.

Winter is calling you, "ah, AriesEagle, did you just call me boring? Ok, well here is a super blizzard..let's see how 'boring' that is. :P..."

More seriously, didn't some past cultures start the new year in spring?

That's really sweet! I note again that your name IS the Aries Eagle. It's an Aries leadership trait to say, "I'll go first!"

In tropical western astrology, whose signs are based on the progressions of the Seasons of the Year (thoughts were developed from astrologer-thinker living in the Northern Hemisphere), that when the Sun reaches 0+ degrees Aries, all the Astrologers celebrate the "Astrological New Year." It's the Spring Equinox {equal day, equal night}, and officially dubbed as International Astrology Day.

(This year Sun at 0+Aries happens on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at 11:33 am EDT {LL-time}.)

For me... I like the symbolism of the small, stilled, nuanced "new" beginning that happens at 0+Capricorn, aka Winter Solstice. The Sun had reached its lowest place in the sky, and seemed to hold still {sol-sun stice-stopped}. It's the point where the Sun begins once again, to turn from the lowest part of the sky, and start its ascent. The daylight (in Northern Hemisphere), grows bit-by-bit, day by day-- we find increase.

There is sooo much going on deep down in the earth, and in the sap of deciduous (leaf-bearing) trees. The running of the sap is the tree's prep to powerfully flow, so alive, and take what's stored at its roots to surge leaves and blossoms-- seedtime again. I guess in a way it's like the rise of kundalini from the base of spine to the top.

Or like going to a movie. I don't want to arrive late-after the preparations and the scene that gives it context has gone by. I prefer to catch EACH and every single moment-- from the no-light frame and dark-blank beginning, through to its very ending. I stay to read every single credit at the story's end. Sometimes the song playing while the ending credits roll by has its own significance, adding to the 'experience'.

Happy Calendar New Year!

Fireworks here produce a LOT of smoke--
I like to think of 'fireworks' as a way to smudge (spiritually cleanse).

Nice subject to research

In this article it says the Babylonians, Phoenicians and Persians celebrated new year at Spring Equinox.

quote:
The oldest celebration

The city of Babylon in ancient Mesopotamia was where the first New Year's celebrations were recorded about 4,000 years ago. The Babylonians held their celebrations on the first new moon after the spring equinox and called this festival Akitu (which comes from the word the Sumerians used for barley). Barley was cut in Mesopotamia in the spring, and during Akitu there was a different ritual on each of the 11 days that the celebration lasted. Statues of the gods were carried through the streets of the city, and in this way the Babylonians believed that their world had been cleaned to prepare for the new year and a new spring.

I think my own personal one, will be starting in March/April. I am not feeling this, at all. I watched an Australian New Year celebration for front-line workers, when I couldn't sleep this morning, but this has no special feeling for me.

I'm reading that most ancient cultures celebrated new year at spring equinox!

Currently reading about Nissan month and Nowruz.

That would mean one hemisphere would enter the new year 6 months before the other.

That is a valid point. I think capricorn makes you write down those new year's resolutions and goals and asks you to think of any goals you can be proactive with and start working on right away during the winter months but then comes April and you feel that fire up your butt and you get serious about the rest of the goals on your new year's resolution list LOL and the Spring gives you that new energy and inspiration to work with.

hahaha It really fits that the New Year is a Cappy Holiday in the sense that you come up with a New Year's Resolution list. Maybe new year's is about PLANNING ahead for the year in our culture more than initiating and getting started and in APRIL you get to it and get going full on.

Capricorn-Planning, setting goals, preparing.

Aries-Get started, just do it, get going already, wake up from the winter slumber, enough dreaming and laying around (pisces/march ) or planning (cappy).

Cancer-Nourish and keep watering those goals you have been working on, get more emotionally invested in them.

Libra-Holidays, time to rest and spend time with loved ones, forget about goals for now and focus on connecting, get back to goals January 1st LOL.

Loving your insights Hypatia!

I am making the connection and understanding that Capricorns are very goal oriented. I have been getting in tune with the Capricorn stuff in my chart better since my Saturn return. They will bust their butt to get what they want. I use to think it was just for the sake of being powerful. But if they don't like something going on, they are super practical/logical on how to make radical changes.

I never felt much like a Capricorn but once I got to a certain age I became obsessed with goals. I use to view Capricorns as super conformists. Though I have met a few who were less conforming and they can be super fun. My goals use to be very tunnel vision. But once I got in my teens I realized I should have all kinds of goals because at least a few of them are bound to happen. Though when it comes to goals such as stability...then I feel it's appropriate to tunnel vision. But if a get a moment to pause then make time for more fun, self care, quality time things.

You got to appreciate the Capricorns high standards for themselves no matter what kind of environment or upbringing they came from. They got that logic and focus.

It does make a lot of sense that people would make new year resolutions around this time. It is fitting.

Something about the time off past Xmas, makes me evaluate what I have and don't have. What am I going to do about the don't haves? As a teacher I really appreciate the combination of the pause and getting back to work. Like I can finally THINK and then DO!

I notice this time of year I can finally schedule a doctor apt. (Jan 4th)
I finally am doing something fun on my to-do list. That is self care, pampering, glamourous. (Jan 15th)
I typed up my quit letter yesterday
I booked my honeymoon trip after being married for 6 months.
-That makes me realize I want to be skimpy at the beach...which has further motivated me to put even more effort into paleo foods. Not full 100 percent I feel like that would just make me frustrated and stressed and make me binge eat. Just doesn't seem realistic or fun for me to go full paleo right now. But I picked up some "zoodles" and spaghetti squash and cauliflower rice at Target today. I did not pick up any cheese this time.
-I've been working on getting my workout groove back. I went running a few days ago. I did a ballet work out yesterday.
I've also wanted to add meditation into my fitness routine....my mental fitness! I get low key offended when people say "have you ever thought about meditating?" Sometimes I can take it as my feelings are being invalidated and I am crazy lady. haha...But I have had some cool spiritual experiences happen while meditating...and I could really use some escapism with the way my life has turned, and I've been remembering my dreams a lot lately.

I need to give this time of year due credit. 10 degrees Capricorn Sun makes my Uranus and Neptune Capricorn the center of attention. And trines my Mercury Taurus.

Uhh I love this, Jupiter in Cappy is work work work and security/reaching goals to lay down a solid foundation for yourself, and when it enters aquarius it invites you think about your hopes and dreams now that this solid foundation is there, jupiter in pisces expands on this and helps you think about the bigger picture and what you want/need long term and then provides guidance into how to make the hopes and dreams a reality and asks you to have faith and not over think it, then jupiter in aries comes along and gives you the courage to take the plunge full on.

I'm sure the new year start the same time in the two himespheres globally just like the way it is now. If it didnt then the southern hemisphere also would wait 6 months give or take till they reach their winter it's summer now in southern hemisphere.

Maybe it's better for the calculations to have it the way it is now I don't know.
