It is hard to generalize based on Sun Sign alone. In my experience, only newbies and intermediates tend to focus so much on Sun Sign stuff. The deeper you get into astrology and the more real world observation, the more one tends to focus more on Planetary strengths and whole chart patterns than singular placements or aspects.

But say your son also has say a strong Moon and doesn't have anything Planetary (especially) or Sign wise that is very different than Cancer or the Moon, and thus ends up being a more "stereotypical" kind of Cancer Sun; these are some traits you could expect:

Highly emotionally sensitive, especially to and about self, but some to others as well (people seem to forget that Cancer is a Personal Sign and thus in an archetypal sense, does tend to be rather self focused/centered. It is the "child", before puberty, phase of the Zodiac). Introverted and reflective, but not necessarily highly aware in a cognitive way i.e. tends to act/behave more from instincts, feelings, and/or the unconscious than not.

Focused on emotional and material security. Could eventually become a shrewd businessman or the like, especially since they can be good at reading the emotions of others well. It is the first Sign with some intuitiveness/psychicness, though again, it tends to be very unconscious and gut oriented. (Very different than the Pineal gland attunement type psychism, which is highly cognitively aware simultaneously).

Highly affected by the relationship with the mother or mother figure in the life. Cancer males tend to either be "Mother's boys" or go to the extreme opposite and come to really dislike their mother (and these relations can, and often do, spill over into their connections with women in general).

Sensitive stomach is not uncommon--should really avoid eating or drinking anything besides water, when upset, distraught, stressed or the like. This is good general advice for any and everyone, but it is especially so for those with very strong Cancer and/or Moon.

Fascination with romance and love, but tend to approach it in a somewhat immature manner. Can come off either as hyper Yin or hyper Yang (compensation) to the women (or general partners) they become interested in. This hyper Yang compensation can be a real problem for Cancer males, especially when younger. Because of insecurity and inner sensitivity, they can really go to the opposite pole at times and for awhile.
