Hello everyone! this is my first message here.

I have been learning and practising astrology for the last 14 years, although never commercially because I never feel confident with my skills, and my ethics makes me feel that it would be wrong.
This forum has been a very valuable resource in this journey of self-discovery, most of which I believe still lies ahead.
I'm not a native english speaker, so please bear that in mind.

I have hundreds of questions I'd like to ask, some are specific about my chart (for that, would it be appropriate to post them here, or on the readings subforum?).

My question today is, when the rulers of the nodes are in aspect to each other, what does this say about the karmic evolution in this lifetime?

Does this say that the opportunities to grow will be easier/harder to come by?

That the events that luck throws at the native will be easier/harder?

That the tools that this person utilizes are less or more recyclable?

That this person will find easier/harder to transition from their older roles to the newer ones that life expects from them?

A different question altogether would be what happens when these nodal rulers aspect the nodes themselves.

Hi!

What an exciting line of query.

But I don't have answers either.

Refresher on nodes -
Nodes are like portals, right?

The suck energy in? Don't give off energy?

And they are an active see-saw/pendulum.. ?

I'd have to consult my library for definites.

Your questions on the rulers are very exciting and fun to muse over!

I still haven't answered what to think of the ruler of SN conjunct NN in my chart.

Thank you

You could post the chart in the Personal Readings forum and ask specific questions there. Or you could link your chart in this thread so if anyone wants to comment related to the node/ruler questions they can do that here.

quote:

My question today is, when the rulers of the nodes are in aspect to each other, what does this say about the karmic evolution in this lifetime?

Interesting question. It partly depend on the specific aspect of the planets, doesn't it? However, I find easy sticking points with how a person understands the concepts of karma and evolution, especially karma. Many people cannot seem to adequately sift out 'karma' from 'fate' or external-things-happening-to-me. Karma is both a dynamic of accounting to one's soul for any unfinished business and the burden of such unfinished business the person carries in with them. Not everyone carries in much or any such burden of karma.

I prefer the term 'soul development' kept more loosely without the need to read karma into the chart (unless/until it is obvious as a particular lesson needing to be resolved).

I also think that it would be misguided to get hung up on predictive interpretations. Your questions (below) presume that the interpretation should be essentially predictive, as if the birth chart itself is primarily predictve. It is not. That may challenge what you've absorbed so far in your learning, but I don't do it casually.

The birth chart is a picture of planetary energies summarizing the soul as it comes in to this lifetime, not as it lives or completes it. Therefore, the birth chart is self-evidently just a starting place (just as one's circumstances of birth are) and not primarily predictive. The reason it seems predictive is because many people do not live out through their free will, get hung up on early life experiences or beliefs, and live rather predictively. Astrologes often can be predictively on target with a good deal of interpretive renderings (because they know people can be quite predictable) while missing entirely the reason and trajectory for soul development along certain lines or with certain lessons. Thus, astrology practice, especially in the west, remains rather superficial and limited.

quote:

Does this say that the opportunities to grow will be easier/harder to come by?

Based on whether the aspects are flowing or hard? No. I'd rather look at the aspects to the nodes themselves to see how such things need to play out.

quote:

That the events that luck throws at the native will be easier/harder?

What luck? Some independently acting luck which acts up on the native as if from the outside? No. That does not exist. We make our own luck by our outlook, attitudes, and beliefs about ourselves and life.

quote:

That the tools that this person utilizes are less or more recyclable?

I don't know what you mean by that. Maybe you could explain.

quote:

That this person will find easier/harder to transition from their older roles to the newer ones that life expects from them?

This is an interesting question. But again, I'd rather look at the aspects to the nodes themselves to feel that out.

quote:

A different question altogether would be what happens when these nodal rulers aspect the nodes themselves

Depends on the particular aspect doesn't it? What is happening is that those energies are getting some emphasis of development or expression, depending on the particular aspect between the rulers and the placement and nature of the lunar nodes.

If you like, you can take a look at my birth chart and see if you can apply any of your questions to it so that I can personally answer those questions based on my life experience so far. I'll take plenty of time to contemplate your questions so that you don't just get an off-the-cuff response.

Hello again, thanks for the answers and for the welcomes!

Kannon McAfee, thanks for the time you've taken.

I actually agree with you with what you said about astrology not being deterministic and how we basically make our own luck, I believe we do it in an "law-of-attraction" kind of way.

My way of understanding Astrology is not deterministic, but that the initial ingredients that are shown in the chart determine our tools to make that spiritual growth possible.

I think this has been a misunderstanding resulting from my poor wording, I used the words "karmic" and "luck" rather loosely, but the point remains.

Also, I am not looking for a generic one-size-fits-all answer to every single chart with this sort of configurations, I realise how vastly different they can be, but I wanted to explore people's various examples of this, I'd like to hear and discuss their experiences, and see if there is a pattern, maybe whether they are all particularly aware of what life (their north node) is asking them to do (actually, their soul asking them to do), and how different people find they put their tools into practice.

If it's ok to mention my example here, I have found a tons intriguing structures on my chart, but the one pertinent to this thread is a 72+60+48=180 ; That is: a Quintile, a very tight Sextile, and a loose Semi-Square; connecting a 12H Cancer south node, a 10H Moon-Mars conjunction, a 8H stationary retrograde Aquarius Saturn, and a 6H Capricorn North node respectively.

Furthermore, the moon does a 108 aspect to the North node.

I need to mention that the 108 aspect is very important because it complements the Quintile against an opposition, the same way the Trine complements the Sextile. So, personally, if you take the Quintile seriously I would take this seriously too. Coincidentally or not, it also happens to be the aspect that Saturn makes to the Sun every time it stations. This repeats a lot in my chart.
But this is an offtopic.

I have several examples of friends and relatives with various others configurations, but I have yet to reach conclusions, I'm happy to discuss these too.

Apologies if this seemed verbose or self-important, I honestly just wanna learn more.

On your chart the only pertinent observation related to this topic would be your Mercury doing a 72/108 aspect to the North Node in pisces south node in virgo, which has some similarities to my case. Although there is no apparent aspect between Mercury and Jupiter, or Jupiter and the nodes.

Some questions would be maybe whether you have an peaceful relationship with your past, whether you found that some of the more mentally driven skills or roles you had in the past have actually found a welcomed place in this life that demands you to go with the flow more and be less calculating. If you pardon my speculation, I am thinking this could be someone who was reclusive, OCD and hypochondriac, obsessed with medicine, and has found that this has been fundamental to help them to become a nurse or doctor, and then they discover compassion empathy and a seamless flow of events at work in the hospital. Interesting to note that the north node in pisces located on a mercurial house, and Mercury aspecting both nodes, there seems reinforced themes.

BTW as you may have noticed we share the nodal axis in the same houses!, I'd appreciate advice to survive the 6th house even though you have a different sign.

I am chronically unemployed, aspie and adhd, and therefore have always had a terrible time in schools and workplaces, and I don't ever stick to gyms and strict diets for long. I was hoping the Aries Moon/Mars sextile Saturn would help to overcome this, seems not so far. Oh well.

toolazyformynorthnode,

You're going deeper into this than I expected and my mind has been nearly completely out of astrology practice for nearly all of 2022. So I'm not sure I'll be able to give any satisfactory feedback or insights. I may have to come back and re-read what you've described with your aspect configurations with nodes.

Interesting that you pay attention to the 72/108° aspect axis, as many people do not, even though one implies the other as you said. In my rectification work I never had enough 108° progressed aspects in culmination come up related to life events to start including it as necessary, but with the 72° I definitely did. But I also did not make use of SolarFire's settings to do studies specifically on 108°. I found that program cumbersome and about $335 worth of buyer's remorse. Can't/won't recommend it.

Anyhoo ... I'd really have to take a careful look at your chart to have any response. And it is possible I've unintentionally baited you into discussion with more generalized responses based on principle. I've set aside astrology practice (and study) long enough now that my mind seems to refuse to jump back into it at any depth of specificity, and that was a decision. But your topic is so interesting I'm willing to give it a shot if I can see your chart.

As to my chart, I assumed that you'd count Mercury as opposite Neptune in my natal chart and go into it from there. I never counted it as an opposition due to its nearly 8° orb, but I know some astrologers would.

What you mention about Mercury quintile/72° N.Node / 108° S.Node relating to mentally driven skills from past (lives) being relevant in this life is very relevant. In a hypnosis session in 1998 I recalled being a folk herbalist in China about 4,000 years ago. I selected plants and dug up roots to turn into medicine, tonics, etc, for travelers who came through my hilly rural area. And yes, going with the flow more and being less picky or planned, maybe "calculating" is the right word.

I am an introvert, but friendly, assertive, and sociable, moody, but not reclusive. Not hypochondriac or OCD. You could say I'm 'obsessed' with medicine since I'm an herbalist, but not a doctor or nurse and totally uninterested in hospitals (I avoid them as much as is practically possible and can't see ever working in one). Not a fan of modern industrial, factory medicine. However, I have worked for two NDs part-time and am moving into being a more fully functioning community herbalist in a way that I'd not imagined in my earlier years with herbal medicine. So the general idea you developed there fits, but in a completely natural medicine setting. Plants not pharmaceuticals. Earth not factories. People helping people, not authoritarian systems.

Anyway, you've got good insights, even if you over-specified a bit. I'll try to come back to this thread and see if I've got any more specific responses to offer. Interesting questions and I hope it turns into an interesting thread.
