you'll get a better understanding of the north and south node through vedic astrology where they're referred to as rahu (north node) and ketu (south node) they're tied to the moon you can also find them called the dragon's head (rahu) and the dragon's tail (ketu)
the myth behind it being that rahu wanders around without a body, always consuming and never full (and so a person is driven towards their rahu in a way, it's appetite is endless)
ketu is headless, wandering around without a body, it's blind and self contained ketu doesn't seek it can't see to seek and it's satiated within itself. where we have ketu is where we can be a bit cut off.
because these nodes are connected to the moon rather than just your natal chart they will be in the same sign for x amohnt of time the same as all the planets are. people with your birthday will share your nodal placements. they always travel retrograde, never forward
the midheaven and the ic on the otherhand are calculated based on your ascendant, you won't share these with everyone born the same day as you
they are the highest and lowest point of your chart and are often tied to home and career, if i remember correctly placidus (i use whole sign snd sidereal personally) uses them to set the 4th and 10th houses (ic being the 4th and midheaven being the 10th)
