It is generally agreed upon that squares and oppositions are hard and challenging aspects as the energies are not compatible which brings friction and conflicts.
But the situation is not that simple with a conjunction which is said to be either positive or negative and can go either way: the energies of the planets blend which can be empowering but can also be overwhelming.
Now, when it comes to transits, does anybody know when a conjunction can be positive and when can it be negative? I have so far experienced many squares and oppositions but very few conjunctions from transiting outer planets.
Has anyone gone through both transits and can compare? For example, what was the difference between transiting Uranus conjunct Moon and tr Uranus square Moon or Pluto conjunct Mars and Pluto square Mars? Can someone tell the difference based on personal experience?

The positivity or negativity of a conjunction depends on the following factors:

-----Positive:
--Nature of the transiting planet: If it involves transit planets like Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, which are considered "benefics"

--Position of the natal planet being conjunct by the transit planet: If the conjunction makes a beneficial aspect (trine, sextile) to other natal planets in the chart. That type of conjunction reinforces an already positive natal aspect.

----Negative:
--Nature of the transiting planet: If it involves hard planets like Saturn, Mars, Pluto, Uranus, even Neptune sometimes, the interaction can be more challenging. Saturn and Mars are considered "malefics".
Example: When Transit Saturn conjuncted my Neptune, I had some of the worst despairing times of my life.

--Position of the natal planet being conjunct by the transit planet: If the conjunction makes a challenging aspect to other natal planets, then it reinforces an already negative aspect in the natal chart.

Of course, there are more factors to take into account, but that would be a good place to start.

I reread your post and I see that you are asking specifically about outer planets... Sorry that my post was more general.
