People often say “use wider orbs for stelliums.” But it’s very unclear by how much.

Not asking for a personal reading, but I think seeing the natal helps for context:

https://imgur.com/3XraqRi

Sun/Moon/Venus/Mars @ 0°26’ - 1°06’ Virgo
Mercury @ 5°00’ Virgo

So, that’s a very powerful multi-planet conjunction / stellium; I’m not talking about a “stellium” like Sun/Jupiter/Uranus spread out from beginning to end of an entire sign.

What kind of orbs would you use for aspects to a stellium like this, with luminaries/personal planets in tight conjunction? Would you calculate by aspect to individual planets, or some midpoint in the middle of the stellium, or the outer boundaries?

If you would use wider orbs than normal, does that apply to receiving energy from other planets, or only casting out energy? I.e. in synastry, let’s say the stellium affects someone else’s Sun in wider orb — does that also apply to being affected by that person’s Sun? Or does the increased energy only go one way?

Interested in both natal and synastry.

Edit: If anyone knows how to properly post images, please lmk so I can edit the OP.

Thank you!!!

I use wider orbs for stelliums because I look at it this way. Using an analogy of ember and heat, consider each planet an ember. If you put 2 or more embers together, they generate more heat than just 1 ember. So a stellium will have an influence extending more than an individual planet.

For an individual planet, some astrologer use 5 degree orb as the max. For stellium, you can go as far as 10 degree orb. That's my personal opinion.

Nice analogy

also a planet like Jupiter might increase the orb of influence because of its nature to expand things... just my thought.
