Hi Everyone! I couldn't find a specific forum for astrocartography so I am posting here. This is for my novice astro peeps out there. I have heard that when working with astrocartography, you should not live on your 12th house line. For example if your 12th house is ruled by cancer - you should NOT live on your moon line. What are your thoughts?

What is a "12th house line"? Do you mean planets falling on the 12th house cusp or planets falling in your 12th house?I don't think there is an universal answer. It depends on the chart. I live in a place where many of my personal planets fall in the 12th house. It's been good for me for a while (not anymore!), but I also have Moon+NN in my 12th house natally. What is the reasoning behind moving to the Moon line if Cancer rules the 12th house? I am strongly considering moving to Moon IC line, and Cancer rules my 12th house. I was interested in this place even before I knew it is my Moon IC line. IP: Logged |

It makes sense because the 12th house is not exactly a comfortable house to handle. I always say it is the house where things go bump in the night, if you know what i mean.So living in the line of your 12th house could be very challenging, unless you are trying to live as a psychic or fortune teller or astrologer, or tarot card reader, etc... Hi! I mean the sign "on" your natal 12th house cusp. If you move to a Moon/IC line I would be very interested to knowing how that played out for you. I have N-moon in my 10th house - if I moon to my moon line it will conjunct my MC exact which makes me nervous (cause cancer rules my 12th) but Moon on MC can mean good things for my career. So funny you say that, a good friend who is also a very popular tarot reader lives right on my moon line (also 12th house cusp). Also when I visited that line (for many years) i was always very dedicated to my astrology practice. IP: Logged |

Hm, I am not an expert but I don’t see why having a ruler of the natal 12th house prominent in the relocation chart would be a bad thing if the rest of the relocation chart is good 🤷♀️ Looking at relocation charts, there are so many worse things that can stand out. Things are never perfect. I feel it’s more important to look at where the planets are in the relocation chart and if those placements resonate with the natal chart in a way that can support what we want to achieve. If your Moon is already in the 10th house, then Moon on MC wouldn’t be too different - only amplified? IP: Logged |

Hi Frida! Moon in the 10th has been good career wise (at least before covid) I work in the arts but it wasn't consistant (very waxing and waning) so If I move to the Moon exact mc it would make it even more so. IP: Logged |

I think 12th house is really important for arts! So having 12th house ruler on MC sounds good to me for a career in arts. It can be difficult if there is an extreme emphasis of the 12th house, but that doesn’t seem to be the case for you.E.g. where I live currently, my sun, mercury, mars all moved to the 12th house, Venus on the cusp of 12th, and Neptune on MC. That is definitely not for everybody. I grew immensely spiritually but I’ve been also really lonely. I think of it as a period of incubation and building inner strength and structure. I am looking to shift my career towards arts too, perhaps in that location where my Moon is on the IC, which is also my Venus MC line. IP: Logged |

Interesting that you say the 12th is important for the arts - I always thought the 5th but since the 12th is ruled by pisces that makes a lot of sense. I have N- mars in my 12th but squared to Uranus in my 3rd. If I move to my Moon MC line (which is good for my moon) it moves my mars into my 11th and squared to Uranus in 2nd. Hmmm that might my finances very erratic. I guess nothing is perfect. Either way I'm coming to understand, that astrocartography is more about the relocated chart apposed to a hard and fast rule about which line to move to or not move too and that you shouldn't live on the line that rules your 12th. It's all case by case. IP: Logged |

If you hate people, or are a misanthrope, an 12th house place is for you.If you hate not being invited, fitting in, or being ignored, then the 12th house can be hell. And art? Yes, the 12th house is a perfect, isolated, place, to create great art. Yes, it also is related to the 5th house, and Leo, too! ------------------ Happiness is easy to find. IP: Logged |

Interesting - you are referring to an artist as if they were a painter, writer, poet, sculptor etc etc. I could definitely see the 12th house for those people. I am a stage/TV Film actor - to stay alive we have to network, get out of the house, meet with other people, director, actors, audition, take classes, which isn't 12th house themes. Well maybe learning lines and coming up with a character can be but for the most part it's pretty community based. IP: Logged |

Based on what you wrote, a 5th house city, or place would be perfect for the energy that you want, to get to your creative goals! The 12th house is isolation, not the social connections you seem to want to seek for your career. The 12th house is also more of the 'lonely, misunderstood painter' energy, or the 'isolated writer who needs quiet to get inspiration,' energy that you don't seem to need. Also, TV is a Uranus/Aquarius thing, so perhaps a city that falls into your Uranus line. Good luck! ------------------ Happiness is easy to find. IP: Logged |

Oh wow, Uranus Line for TV now that makes a LOT of sense, thank you! IP: Logged |

Perhaps I am missing something, but I don't think @mztiny would emphasize the 12th house that much to risk isolation if they move. Am I missing something? Ruler of the 12th house - dream world, empathy, imagination, becomes visible on Midheaven. That's not isolation. In general, yes, too much emphasis on the 12th house can be miserable. I don't hate people yet I spend way too much time alone where I live. I've been trying to leave for years but I have to finish some things here. In regards to the relocation chart - again, I'm not a pro, I am mostly speaking from my experience because I lived in 4 different locations that are very far from each other. I have planets on angles in each location and I think those definitely had the most significant impact. Second thing I noticed is that if you have multiple planets close to each other in the natal chart, they will emphasize the house where they fall. E.g. I have 4 personal planets within 20 degrees so they often fall in the same house. That was a huge shift each time I moved. I didn't even pay attention to other planets... not interested, I don't think it mattered for me So I am really not sure about Uranus Mars square moving to 2nd/11th house... your natal chart is still your natal chart. The 12th house is the house of peace. It's also the house of 'leave me the f**k alone,' LOL. I lived in a 12th house place once. Beautiful vegetation, and the grass was just so darn green. Peaceful. It was also a perfect place for me to heal from my depression and mental health issues. The 12th house is a need. Without it, there would be no place to hide, heal, and rejuvenate! ------------------ Happiness is easy to find. IP: Logged |

Good point - I have my Saturn, sun, mercury and venus in my 11th (placidus) so yeah where I have been they all fall in a different house - I should probably pay more attention to that then worry about my moon moving to my MC. FYI- I just ordered "The Psychology of Astro*Carto*Graphy" by Jim lewis. This should answer a lot of my questions. IP: Logged |

Venus rules my 7th and my 12th, and that's why I dropped out of school (the agoraphobia was building). I worked much better at home, and was away from bullies. IP: Logged |

Yup the 12th house is 'leave me alone.' It could also be a 4th house thing, too. And yes being around bullies will make you want to get away from people! ------------------ Happiness is easy to find. IP: Logged |
