LolMy own understanding and belief is not that the planets themselves are doing things to us, but they are a reflection, a mirror of what is happening in our psyche on earth. As above, so below. IP: Logged |

It's fascinating isn't it?
I remember reading that Suhrawardi thought planets have their own "soul" very much like a person, and personalities that are shaped when recognized by humans. Regarding planets retrograde, I dislike when they call them that. Mercury Rx is the time Mercury is closest to Earth so the electromagnetic waves are intense and causing glitches, and people's memories seem to widen and expand as well.

That is also my understanding. I only speak in terms of causality because it is easier to explain the "mirror" in terms of cause and effect. IP: Logged |

I am embarassed to say that I had no idea who Suhrawardi was and I had to google him. He is a fascinating character... Anyway, i do know that in Vedic astrology, they do see it that way, and they have rituals and practices to propitiate the planets... IP: Logged |

You're sweet, don't be.A bit off topic but yes, he's very interesting. I recently read some of his essays: "The Red Intellect", "Book of Love", "Shape of Light", and "Music of Gabriel's Wings". I must say I am hooked. I had to use AI translate for some of them due to rarity of his work available in English. In "Book of Love" he mainly talks about how beauty, love, and sadness are an inseparable trio. Simply put, we fall in love with beauty and love and sadness go hand-in-hand. He says the path of all humans is an 11-fold path, different stages of the journey of soul, and describes them as different realms or universes. And I find it no coincidence that string theory also has something called 11-dimension supergravity theory.
They way he writes is my favorite, very poetic, romantic and and at the end of the text you can't tell if he meant something literally or was only telling a story. I read that he was influenced by Avicenna. Carl Jung was also an Avicenna geek and studied all of his work and found it very important in his psychology and therapy work. I read a bit of that when I was 23 and I found it too deep and a bit disturbing to be honest, but I now see it as useful, and simply what the human psyche is and how we're all connected to one another and to the universe. And I think it's a known fact that both him and his teacher/nemesis Freud would resort to looking at a patient's natal chart if they were feeling desperate and stuck in their therapy and analysis. Back to astrology, I find it fascinating how human-astrology relationship has been changing. From seeing it doomed and gloomed in early Vedic stages where you had to offer some entity or concept something as a remedy to "fix" your bad chart, to seeing planets as independent beings with souls who are on their own developmental path similar to us humans during Islamic golden age, and to now coming to embrace your bad chart and doing shadow work, learning to live with your bad side.

Very interesting Randall, please do elaborate. What mirror are you referring to?

Now you've got me interested in reading his Book of Love... And I had no idea that Freud was into astrology. However I always assumed Jung was into astrology due to some of the symbolisms he used... Interesting points about how astrology has evolved from its fatalistic days...Why do you think this is so? I have a (half-baked) theory: The moon represents our emotions and psyche. For the first time in our history, humans set foot on the moon in the late 1960s, which to me symbolizes that our human emotions can become more accessible and understandable to us. And the Dark/Far Side of the Moon which had never been visible to humans became in 1959 due to technological advances. It is no wonder that the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) was published around the time we were able to photograph the Dark/Far side of the moon for the first time (1952) and that things like therapy and mass exploration of our subconscious have become more widespread and accepted than ever before. When humans became able to physically touch a planet in our solar system, perhaps it was bond to happen that we would feel more empowered in looking at our chart with different eyes and not so fatalistically. That is such an interesting theory. I think it makes a lot of sense. I've been low-key dreaming about what it would look like when the time comes that astronomy and astrology become one again. I think we will definitely witness the flourishing of a lot of sciences then.

Mercury Rx is ending tomorrow! I had a nice Mercury retro. Some delays but no major snafu. I heard from people I had not heard from in a long time. I tidied up my house and found documents and things I didn't know I still had, which was good! But I am ready to move forward and onward. IP: Logged |

Happy to hear you had a good one. Some of my past connections popped up as well and I got a lot of work done at my job, most of which I'd been putting off since August. IP: Logged |

I know what you mean. Yesterday I buckled up and got an insane amount of work done, work I had on the back burner for months! It was like the universe was giving me a push and putting the wind at my back! IP: Logged |

It's as if the universe was telling us here's your last chance, make it or regret it.
