Does anyone else experience being attracted to two opposite archetypes in romantic partners? I am sure it has to do with oppositions in the natal chart between personal planets, probably involving Moon, Venus, Mars...

Mine is the Leo Moon - Aquarius Venus opposition. I only recently connected the dots. I oscillate between being attracted to warm, bright, gentle Leo types and deep, complex, dark but super polished Scorpio types. I used to wonder why Scorpio, but Venus is trine Libra Pluto with a very wide orb, so maybe that's why, and Aquarius has that cold, modern flair (plus Pluto trine Aqua Desc and Mars in the 7th).

Maybe that's why I am still single. Hard to find both in one person.

I remember there was a thread about oppositions and bipolar behavior. It is weird. Kind of tough to balance.

Leo and Scorpio are not opposite and do not have much polarities.

Maybe due to your natal opposition involving your Moon/Venus in Leo and Aquarius, you are looking to Scorpio, THE MIDPOINT SIGN between Leo and Aqua as a way to blend or harmonize or solve the Leo/Aquarius opposition...

I think this is about the opposite qualities energies rather than zodiac.

I also was pondering between darker and lighter energies. And decided the dark energy comes more with water, Pluto and Saturn, mostly stereotypically attached to Scorpio.
Like John Mayer, Jack White.
It could be also an individual perception based on one’s natal chart.

Yeah, it can be a mix of things. Anyone who looks at examples without knowing astrology will simply say those are opposite archetypes.

Jack White is a great example! I never looked at his chart, but there's some Scorpio vibe plus some earth element. Light and dark are good metaphors, though there's so much nuance.

I can't think of a celebrity / public person on the "opposite end" that fits my own personal preferences, maybe because there seems to be more ego involved than in those dark, deep types.

I don't know... I think we can all be intrigued by both, but I haven't observed among the people I know that they truly oscillate between the two.
