If you shave your legs, put your body lotion on a radiator or take it into the shower with you to warm it up. If you put cold lotion on your legs it can irritate them and cause a rash. Warm lotion doesn't. I've had a rash on my legs since I was 15. NO MORE I TELL YOU! NO MORE!

Feel free to share, people have some weird ones in my experience. If anybody knows how to make my overbleached curly hair less like a haystack I'd love them muchly, especially if it doesn't involve buying a "product".

Honey and oil mask 2 tbsp honey 1/3 cup olive oil Beat honey into oil in a small bowl. Apply to hair, concentrating on ends. Wrap hair in a hot towel for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water (you'll have to rinse well, as the mixture will be sticky!).

Eggs and more mask 1 egg 1 tsp honey 2 tbsp olive oil Beat the egg into the honey, then beat in the oil. Shampoo hair, rinse, then apply mixture to hair and scalp. Massage for five minutes, then rinse well.

Egg Shampoo

1 whole egg
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
½ cup of plain water
Mix all of these thoroughly with the help of a folk until the mixture is somewhat frothy. Wet your hairs, apply your homemade product and massage gently into your hair and scalp.
Leave this for five minutes and than rinse well with warm water. This will give you gorgeous hair with long lasting shine and softness.

Homemade Conditioners

Egg and Yogurt

This is well known throughout the world and equally effective for all hair types.
1 Whole egg
1/2 cup fresh yogurt
Fresh Juice of one lemon
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon essential oil of your choice like olive oil, coconut oil and so forth.
Mix these well in a bowl and apply on you hairs as well as scalp. Put a shower cap or simply wrap your hairs in a towel. Let it work for 30 minutes or if possible for one hour. Otherwise 30 minutes will be sufficient. Now rinse and shampoo and be ready for a silky shiny hair day. read more on natural hair conditioners according to your Hair Type.
Hair Packs

Avocado Pack

Ingredients;
1 small jar of mayonnaise
olive oil 1 tablespoon
1/2 avocado
Peel and pit avocado. Take half avocado and mash well with mayonnaise and oil till it has a creamy consistency. Apply to your hairs and work through hairs to ends. Cover with a shower cap.
You may use a warm towel if your hairs are really damaged. This will help in deep conditioning. Let your hair treated for 20 minutes. Be ready for shiny healthy hairs.

Apple cider vinegar is well known for it's role in acne and skin care. It is also important for it's use in natural hair care.
Take about half cup of apple cider vinegar and mix well in about one quart of water. Use as a final rinse after routine shampoo. This will give bounce to hairs making them shiny and black.

Start with your diet, increase the intake of fresh fruits and green vegetables, drink plenty of water and cut short spicy or junk foods.
If hairs are in a really bad condition start taking some good multi vitamin for a month or two.
You may find some spices to be good for hair. These include turmeric, black pepper and cumin. If you have not been using them, start now, but be careful an excess may be harmful for rest of your body.
Always use good quality hair brushes and wide toothed combs. Bad hair brushes may damage hairs and promote split ends.
Do not use hair brush on wet hair to de tangle them. Always use a wide tuuthed comb preferably of natural bruises in wet hairs. This will minimize the hair damage.
Always brush your hair before going to bed. This is because hair grow more rapidly at nights tha day times. By brushing you increase the blood supply to scalp thus promoting growth process.
Cut short the use of styling products, blow dryer, hair dyes and so on. Their excessive use may damage the original shine of hairs
Avoid stress, stress or anxiety may lead to hair loss.
Always use a shampoo and conditioner according to your hair type.
Avoid sleeping in hair accessories such as barrettes, scrunches, head bands, etc. This can lead to hair damage. http://www.skincare99.com/articals.php?topid=56

tried an epilator on my legs but it caused the most horrific ingrowing hairs (despite use of loofa and scrub daily). and waxing, as in home waxing, just doesn't cut the mustard. i have bionic leg hair!

here's a tip - use high grade almond oil on your face and round your eyes every night as a moisturiser. not only is it ten times cheaper than most anti-aging products its also natural and can be used on sensitive and spot-prone skin too. (Weleda do an brill one).

Lots of good tips here-- last week I began seriously working on ways to reduce the amount of packaging I use. A good place to start is on toiletries. Does anyone make their own toothpaste? I saw that there are a few ways to do it.

I couldn't get the barefoot in the grass variety so I bought "Summer Breeze". I washed my hair over 12 hours ago and yes I DO still smell like a summer breeze and my hair is like Farah Fawcett's.

On Monday night I tried 26T's olive oil, honey and egg concoction - also flipping brilliant (but it clogged up my shower a bit so anyone inclined to try should be ready with a bit of washing up liquid or similar to help things along drain-wise).

Olive oil and sugar scrub. MARVELLOUS.

And I have replaced my moisturiser with olive oil, and Future, you were right, it doesn't make you oily halfway through the day like my "oil free" moisturiser does. It's amazing.

I'm really glad I started this thread!

Olive oil is supposed to be the be all and end all of beauty products, I've heard.

I read somewhere that Jerry Hall uses it frequently and she swears by it. I was going to make a joke about being married to Mick Jagger and using olive oil to ensure he slid off, but maybe that would be inappropriate. We can't have that now.

if you are prone to the odd spot, dab neat lavander essential oil onto it. i know they say you ought to dilute the stuff, but i find it reduces the swelling and redness and helps it heal without as much scarring (being pale and prone to both spots and scarring this has been a lifesaver )

olive oil can be used on a damp cotton wool pad to remove even the most stubborn eye makeup

witch hazel lotion for rashes/insect bites or anything itchy-skin related

always mix a little milk in bath water when using essential oils - it will help it disperse and stop it sitting on the top - great for keeing skin soft too....

(p.s. olive oil and sugar face scrub - bloddy brilliant)

Fantastic. She was always my idol. her and Brigitte Bardot.
I craved blonde hair but was blessed (?) with hair as black as coal, a Celtic skin with a singular melanin pigment cell and blue eyes.
I long to be blonde. In my next incarnation I shall be platinum with olive skin (I shall probably be Brazilian)
Right back to topic you raven haired bunnies.
Spots!
I coasted through spottiedom armed with two things that are miracle cures.
Calamine lotion (calms the skin) and an occasional Fullers Earth face pack, or a dab of fullers mix on evil chin spot.

If you make the face pack be warned that it will have to be removed when dry with the aid of a jack hammer but it will dredge all the nastiness out of your skin and no messing.
Calamine lotion dries and soothes spots and costs about threepence a bucket. It's amazing. Apply at night.
Also be warned it dries white.
So if you apply a coat of it at night before retiring, be sure to check smoke alarms.
In the event of a fire, the sight of your chalk white face at the window will most probably send rescuing fireman straight back down his ladder with cries of
"It's too late chaps! It was horrible. Her face was just a pile of ash"

Early detection will give you a precious few minutes to wash your face.

Really great tips, all! Another easy way to get bugs to leave you alone in summer i have found is eucalyptis oil and water. I have a spray bottle that I use on plants and myself, as well. It's a great oil to keep your kitties from chewing your plants, too.

I'm always looking for spot cures.. Bloody 28 and still prone to break-outs. Worse now than when I was a teenager. I've literally tried everything and am getting soooo fed up!! Problem #1 is my extrmely dry skin, so anything that will "dry out" spots is like pouring acid on my face... Winter is not helping, I notice that in Summer, I don't really suffer that much.

I suppose I could try the mask suggested by venusdelinda... Oh,how I hope for a miracle!!

Bunnies man, you kill me! And I'm not really blonde, it's out of a bottle, hence the need for some industrial strength conditioner. I have bought three Lenors since writing last. Loving the smell. Cheaper than perfume!

Ghani!! Breakouts, grrr. I'm 35 and still suffering, it sucks no?

Fab tips everyone, I shall be trying them all in turn. Sunshine - the toothpaste thing is great, I am wise to that one.

VenusdeIndia - we are not really floating each others' boat right now concerning views on women. But my goodness people, don't let one crackpot notion from a person prevent you from trying another of their ideas.

I am EVANGELICAL about Venus' gram flour facepack. And I mean EVANGELICAL. I tried this on Friday and it was awesome. When it dried it went all sort of blobby and I looked like some strange undersea creature from the depths, but I sh!t you not, upon examination of the goop (when I chiselled it off) there was a whole load of well... (gross I know) blackheads and gack that had been living in my face.

And the best part of the whole thing is that I have been living with some strange rash on my chin and neck area for the past year. It's like a scaly dry rash that makes my skin look shiny and wrinkly like a burn scar. I got some hydrocortizone cream from the doctor which sort of works temporarily but I don't like using it and it always comes back.

After using this facepack the rash has GONE. That was 3 days ago and it's still gone. My face is soft and feels clean. Try it people. Gram flour's like 80p a bag here and will do 20 facepacks easy. You look a bit like Marge Simpson and it is unwise to let your boyfriend see you with it on as he will call you "Lazarus" all day but here:

TRY IT TRY IT TRY IT NOW!

posted January 26, 2009 08:20 AM Click Here to See the Profile for 26taurus Edit/Delete Message heya wheels!

so, i've been sitting here researching how to make an effective all natural deoderant. From what I've dug up so far (and I've visited plenty of websites now) it seems the best home remedy is distilled white vinegar.

I just made my own a mix in a spray bottle, from what I've gathered on numerous sites. Most suggest mixing water and vinegar (you can even use apple cider) in a spray bottle and spraying on wherever you'd like your body to stay odor free. From what I'm reading, it really works because it kills the germs that cause it unlike deoderants that just cover up with perfume etc! The vinegar smell goes away upon drying. Some even swipe it on with a cotton ball.

Also, you can spray this on your clothes (if you have a problem like I do, where it's hard to get the deoderant off your shirts). I will be spraying this on when I get out of the shower and letting it dry. It's supposed to work miracles because it targets the bacteria on our skin which when mixes with our sweat is what causes the body odor. We'll see! And no, I don't stink terribly. LOL Just wanted to find a natural remedy.

my recipie:

1/2 cup water
1/2 cup white vinegar
a few drops of tea tree oil
some lemon juice
a few drops of grapefruit seed extract
and a bit of Bach's Rescue Remedy

You could just stick to the water and vinegar of course. Don't you think this sounds a lot better than the chemical crap deoderants out there?. We'll see if it works!

I've got the Egg Yogurt mix on my hair now. I used apple cider vinegar after a shampoo recently - as a hair rinse, as was recommended somewhere and well, I'll never do that again. My head reeked of vinegar for days and wasnt soft and shiny like was said it would be. It was before though. I finally couldnt stand it anymore and washed my hair with Dawn Dish Detergent. That cleared it right out. Because even multiple shampoos werent cutting through it.

The chickpea mask was nice, though didnt "wow" me. It made my face softer and will try it again soon anyway.

Yesterday I made a sugar olive oil scrub and used it in the shower. I loved how soft and luscious it made my skin. I'll be using that one often. On face too. Divine.

I'm not so sure I like the vinegar deoderant anymore. I can really smell it, even after it dries. I feel like I smell like a bag of Salt and Vinegar chips. And that's a no-no.

I do this every so often (dont do it too often!). It totally strips your hair and you should use some kind of super conditioner after or oil treatment, but It also makes your hair really clean and light. It clarifies it and cleans any gunk or build-up that may be there right out.

I've used peroxide for mouthwash. Brightens teeth, too.

After washing my face, I spray Rose Water onto my skin, then moisturise.

One needs to allocate Time for regular grooming. It's a must in any woman's busy schedule!!!

quote:Egg and Yogurt

Hair Packs

"be ready for silky shiny hair day" um, when ?

This is not what happened.

I've rinsed and shampooed and am not impressed. It took forever to get it brushed out (my hair's very long). It had a coarse dry feeling to it while i was rinsing it and was not looking forward to brushing it out. Normally my hair does not feel like that when I'm rinsing a product out. I rinsed thoroughly and shampooed. Had to spray a bunch of de-tangler in my hair which helped slightly. Also, I forgot the tablespoon of honey, which I doubt really matters much.

It's not like I dont have soft hair normally anyway...so why am I doing this again?

Thought it might make my hair healthier i guess. Oh well. Maybe I'll pour some olive oil all over it.

I personally love honey masks...just honey alone is great and really softens the skin.

I totally want to try to the olive oil and sugar scrub...and a bunch of these other remedies!

I like to use baby oil right after the shower, and then add lotion on top of it...it's great for dry skin

I have a really gross remedy involving cigarette ash for removing hair dye from your skin. My mother told me about, and it works, though I don't dye my hair anymore...and it is kinda gnarly, but good to know

I like to refrigerate rosewater and spray it on my hair and body in the summer...refreshing

posted January 30, 2009 09:33 PM Click Here to See the Profile for 26taurus Edit/Delete Message Interesting about the ash, MVM!

& i keep reading about how beneficial Rose Water is to the skin. Will have to pick some up.

Recently I remember reading how someone here was having a problem with nose hair. May I suggest using the vinegar deodorant and taking a few whiffs off your pit right after? Can almost guarantee the fumes will burn that fine nostril hair right off. Phew. I think mine are gone. Or just take a few good whiffs straight from your bottle of apple cider vinegar. That shi!t'll just about knock you over or put hair on your chest, something we don't want either. Be careful.

I can't drink it anymore and picked up some tablets instead.

How's your man holding up future? I agree. I don't think it would last too long on a hot summer's day or a heavy workout.

I've decided concoct a little snack from the ingredients I bought for these beauty treatments.

recipie:

Plain organic yogurt
some raw honey
lemon juice
a splash of olive oil
and a pinch of chickpea dust

mix well.

and there you have it! a wholesome snack.
delish.

Needless to say, my husband was not a fan. I believe he threw out the word "hippie" and something along the lines of being on board with most of my "alternative lifestyle" ideas, but definitely not this one!

This was after I spent three days convincing him that, no, I did not smell like an Easter egg. I really wanted to believe...

quote:*Wheels is wondering whether adding turmeric to a face pack will make her look like Marge Simpson?*

Turmeric goes deep into the skin and is the most potent astringent and antiseptic - it kills all the bacteria that live in our oil glands and blackheads - like a large happy community ...yuck....its actually true though.

quote: I tried this on Friday and it was awesome. When it dried it went all sort of blobby and I looked like some strange undersea creature from the depths, but I sh!t you not, upon examination of the goop (when I chiselled it off) there was a whole load of well... (gross I know) blackheads and gack that had been living in my face.

Actually it may irritate a sensitive skin to scrape it after its fully dried but half-dried is just as well .

This is a once a month thing that most indian women do religiously -

Not just on the face

Rub this mixture on the whole body when it semi - dries - you will not believe you have showered a day in your life -seriously .

As we grow old dead skin cells, oil and toxins from the dust and environment around us clog pores and make our skins look sallow and aged.

Once a month do this all body treatment , substitute Yoghurt with light cream for dry skin or if you really want to pamper yourself - your skin will be so soft - the BF will find it hard to not lick it

Those who are into such remedies though - might want to considera nice ayuirvedic book - we have thousands of hair, face and skin treatments that involve your pantry ingredients - no chemicals, nothing that your body cannot assimilate and is alien to it.

Try googling or search the local alternative store for a good ayurvedic beauty care book - its worth every penny.

This one is nice - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0060929103/indiamart-20

I have 10 recipes for shampoos but i doubt if all the herbs are available locally...

For Dandruff - A bowl of yoghurt , a lemon squeeezed into it,a spoon of honey .

This also makes hair airy and fresh and the flakes disappear - stuff we buy at the chemist is loaded with chemicals that are known to be carcinogenic and the residue is absorbed right into our organs. And that goes for all chemical shampoos that are detergent based -

Detergent is for cleaning Non- Living Clothes - Not for us Living Beings !!!

No matter what exotic herbs they add to it. !!

For Pimples

- dont bother with what the doctor prescribes - that are chemical compounds.

Buy a stone - that you get in spice shops to grind spices against .Buy a single Nutmeg.Pour a spoon of milk and rub the nutmeg into it on the stone until you are left with thick paste.Dab on the zit - it will suck all the heat out of the zit that may otherwise last for a week and lead to infection and more zits.

If you cant bother with the above - a spoon of nutmeg powder and a few drops of milk will do .

Tried and tested over the horrid teenage acne era - works like a charm.

For a light moisturiser - equal parts of glycerine and rose water and half part lemon juice - apply at night and after shower - cheap and you smell like a dessert

If anyone has any skin or hair problems i can post the recipe that is best suited for the same.
