I was just listening to my iPod and Sting's song Fragile came on and it immediately made me feel sad, as it does every time I hear it.I was just wondering, is there a song that puts you into an immediate mood or feeling when you hear it? IP: Logged |

God yeah, that "Fragile" song is a doozy for having a bawl to. That guitar. *shivers*"Golden Brown" by the Stranglers is another one like that. I also find that with George Michael "Jesus to a Child". George Michael, whouda thunk it? I'm not embarrassed. I tend to be set off by sad songs. Sometimes I need to put one on to find release. If I'm feeling like that I tend to put on stuff like Kate Bush or Pink Floyd. Although anything rocky by Tom Petty can put me in a good mood. Especially "American Girl".

It's normally the other way around. Music I listen to when I am in a certain mood and need to inspire my way out of it or enjoy it as appropriate. Someone has made me rather cross -> Get A Grip by Henry Rollins Aggressively good mood -> Shoot the Runner by Kasabian Fed up and in need of self-motivation -> Above the Clouds by Paul Weller Yes I work with you and you are my friend, but you get right up my rear end so I need a little bit of space now, if it's all the same to you -> Cold War Kids Hang Me Out to Dry and Tell Me in The Morning on Jools Holland http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9hYnWZQrxY&feature=related

Anything by Janes Addiction or Queens of the Stone Age makes me feel invincible. Iggy Pop was the same, but now I can't get the image out of my head of him pimping his arsehole to Satan in a car insurance ad. Hawkwind or Motorhead can make me feel drunk when I'm not. Henry Rollins. IP: Logged |

quote: This Jools Holland performance is mutli-purpose it could be aggressively good mood, or it could be: yes I work with you and/or you are my friend but get right up my rear end so I need a little bit of space now, if it's all the same to you.

Rollins comes up with some great lyrics:-In the end it's just you and your mind. Not matter what you do, no matter what they do to you, you've got to keep your self-respect. .....that's a paraphrase, but we all get the point and isn't he bloody well right? It should be taught in schools, that one. IP: Logged |

Sorry, edited that one to be more readable, but it's true. It's a multi-purpose YouTube.I love Cold War Kids. They are so into their music, and they manage to produce lyrics that aren't drearily banal. IP: Logged |

Yes, about certain music getting you out of moods too. Some songs just have that liftig effect too. Makes me think of the scene in Love, Actually where Hugh Grant's character, the PM goes dancing to The Pointer Sisters.IP: Logged |

Totally understand about George Michael, wheels. For me it's Waiting For That Day and the first line: "So everyday I see you in some other face".IP: Logged |

Oh yes! I am sooo sensitive to music, that I have to really be careful what I listen to. If I listen to alot of agressive rock/metal music, it will put me into an agressive mood, where I feel discontented to sit at home and then I get really cranky. But if I'm out or working, it helps with my energy.Same with driving, nothing too agressive or I get road rage, lol. Then of course, love songs, or should I say certain love songs will make me sad and depressed especially if they remind me of a lost love. Music is VERY powerful. IP: Logged |

I just DVR'd a really cool program on PBS about how music affects the brain. Here is a link to some portions of the program: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/musicinstinct/ I tried to see if/when it was going to air again, but couldn't find that info. I don't know if this is an individual program or a part of a series. Check it out though if you get a chance. It's really interesting. Especially when it explores the way culture does and does not affect our responses to music. IP: Logged |

And on a more personal note... reggae, even music that just hints at reggae, always picks me up.IP: Logged |

Yes to the reggae, best road trip music is Bob Marley, and Jimmy Buffet (JImmys not reggae, but island vibe) cause everybody sings along, and its upbeat and happy-go-lucky, which you need on long drives. And Yes to the motown too, CPN.IP: Logged |
