Ahhhh....Imagine a simpler time, with Coca wine.. Then, Bayer Cocaine to cure the hangover... All things in moderation I suppose. Coke in it's "natural" form, opiates for that matter as well, were not as menacing in their original form, when we take them, re-arrange the chemical structure, they do horrible things to the human body. yes they used to be all over the counter. when i was teething my mom rubbed whiskey on my gums. did it to/for my own child too. she is not an alcoholic in fact rarely touches the stuff.when i was in england - don't know if it's there anymore - there was an over the counter ulcer remedy called dr brown's kaolin & morphine. yes, kaopectate mixed with morphine, not pink or white but brown, foul-tasting, and VERY addictive. never had an ulcer but i had a friend with one...i think he died from too much medicine!
