So my ever fashion conscious daughter found a copy of Glamour magazine, the one famous for the black bar covering faces? Anyway, it had the top one hundred dont's of all time.

I have many infractions against me. In fact, they should just photograph me on any given day, and say, "Don't look like her!"

Apparently, I am in violation of the number one don't of all time, which is letting your thong strap hang out of your waistband. Now tell me, how do you avoid this? I am certainly not trying to be sexy, but the dang thing creeps up, and I my jeans are low riders, so how does one avoid this problem? Constant retucking doesn't work, and makes you appear as though you have some kind of rash or issue downstairs. I refuse to wear MOM jeans, so I guess that one is just gonna have to be lived with.

I also wear chopsticks in my hair. Or a pencil, pen, whatever is handy. The article informed me that chop sticks are for eating, as if I didn't know that, why do you think I keep them in my head? I get hungy, I just whip one of those babies out and chow down...JK.
Oh, my bra staps tend to show. Well, when you wear a top with spagetti straps these things happen. No bra is not an option, as my wheeel barrow is currently holding something else.

What about you?

Hmm, tried the boy shorts and on me they violate another don't which is don't have VPL. For those scratching their heads, VPL means Visible Panty Lines.

There are fashion "dos" and "don'ts" but there is also just "fashion" or "high fashion".

Who decided that VPL is a fashion "don't" I ask you?

Showing bra straps is a "don't" but wearing a bra over your top is "high fashion"? (Sex and the City reference here)

Guilty of VLP and bra straps. And there are probably many other infringements that I'm not even aware of; fashion crimes i commit. Today I'm wearing black flip-flops and a brown shirt! I think that's a Don't - black and brown!? lol

Pfft. I wish I could just walk around naked everywhere. Why do we have to wear clothes?
Clothes suck! Well, except for when I am cold. But I can just wear a "snuggie" then!

HAHAHA, Yin, I feel the same way about clothes!

BTW, on Aug 20, the new season of "Project Runway" premieres. I love that show. I used to draw my own clothes when I was a kid. I found that notebook a few years back, and cracked up. Apparently my major influence as a child was 'The Sonny and Cher Show'! OMG! I had space suits with feathers! LOL.

I would totally sport a snuggle 24/7 if I could. I've always wished I could live in a cloaked robe of some sort. How comfortable!

Heh, I'm such a Glamour "don't."

F-you, Glamour.

I love my hair messy, too. I am anti-styling product. I am a Leo with slightly wavy, long, unstyled, naturally sun-streaked dark-blond hair. I hate people who think I should get a tidy, professional-looking haircut just cause I'm not an 18-year-old model. When I am 70, I will be a Leo with slightly wavy (or coarse?), long, unstyled, white or grey hair.

18-year-old models have the right idea with fashion--little or no makeup unless you have a shoot, black brastraps hanging out of white wifebeaters, low-riding jeans, comfy shoes, an insoucient glare, and BEDHEAD.

sounds like this is the bedhead thread.
I have constant bedhead, no choice really, unless I want to iron it every day, listening to that lovely, healthy, sizzling sound....

I think I am mostly a do. I don't really wear anything very dramatic. I like to be comfortable, so I usually wear pretty tradional stuff. No thongs --- Not comfy. No fancy things in the hair -- not comfy. Not a lot of makeup -- I don't think I need to tell you why. Shoes = comfy.

lol. I am so boring. I either wear: dresses, pants (not jeans -- too uncomfortable), athletic pants, and shirts made out of a nice material with clasic seams and cuts.

Yin, whenever I see that commercial I laugh. It reminds me waaay too much of moses. I'd feel like I'd need a staff and have to part the Red Sea.

Lol at 17 going on 18, the word Glamour teen escapes me by a long shot..I just don't have it whatever it is.

My Aries/Aqua/Gem friend and Virgo/Libra cousin have always had it, whatever it is that I don't have. They are oh so pretty and everyone gasp when the come into a room and immediately start talking to them.

Instead I got stuck with artsy fartsy messy girl who looks 12 but is actually older with quirks and plenty of jokes XD.

I wish I could have it sometimes, oh you you elusive it but in the end I just don't have it and I am growing to live without it and be comfortable with myself.

I have no idea...I guess it depends on any given day. Most of my outfits are bought from thrift stores, and I wear what I want, not what is in the glam mags. I generally have a if I like it, I will wear it no matter what people think.

Some more don'ts to ponder.....

*don't wear sox and sandals
*don't wear pajamas in public, even to run to the all night convience store (guilty)
*don't wear conflicting animal prints (that one is just too funny, is she a leopard, no giraffe? A Girafard?)
*don't over accessorize
*don't carry a too large bag (guilty)
*don't wear office clothes with tennis shoes, even if you have to walk far
*don't dress inappropriately for your age (whatever)
*don't overpluck your eyebrows
*don't wear underwear as overwear, unless it's the eighties and your madonna.....

Anybody seen "Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus"?
Remember the nudist colony she went to in the beginning of the movie?
I want to live there.
No clothes required.

Oh, and for those of you who are too modest or ashamed of their bodies or think that there is anything sexual about being a nudist - think again.
You get over your poor body image in about half a day. And nobody walks around a nude beach with an erection. It just doesn't happen.
My dream lifestyle, really.

lol i once interviewed to get work and training as a model (i was 18) the woman took one look at me and said i was not the type - well i did have boobs and hips and i wasn't "tall enough" for those days. but by way of putting a positive spin on it she advised me that i did have one quality a model needed - "moxie" - ie the balls to ignore conventional attitudes and go for what i wanted!

i believe the only true glamour is following ones own choices and letting the "trendies" and conformists fly a kite.

i am barefoot or in sandals all summer unless hiking. comfort is the main thing and true to my aquarian ascendant i am usually in something most people would be afraid to try, but i'm not making an effort, it's just what's available AND comfortable and clean!

Katatonic! Aqua Rising here too! I have struggled with what to wear all my life!
My mom used to tell me I shouldn't try to pick clothes by myself because I often wore pink and yellow or some other clashing colors/ patterns etc.
With age I learned to tone things down but dressing UP is hard for me.

LOL, yes, dressing up is a challenge. I've spoken often about having 9 deaths in a little over a year? I had nothing to wear to the first couple funerals. Had to just throw something suitable on in a hurry a few times. I was horrified at one to realize that my vest (it was black, so I thought appropriate) had skulls on it!!! Lord what must people have thought! Finally, I brought a proper funeral suit, and hoping it will gather dust for a long, long time!

I think in my late teens and early 20's I cared for the fashion stuff and now at my age, I really don't care so much - as long as my clothes match and I'm comfy.....what is so fashionable about Jeans and a T shirt....what I wear most of the time...or khakis and a nice shirt and that's it....

I actually really like fashion, in the sense that fashion is adorning yourself so that your appearance accurately reflects what's inside.

That's why I hate all those stupid restrictive RULES. It's not that I don't care about my appearance--I want to look like ME.

I am a Do, definitely…

Maybe not as I am sitting here right now (nightgowns at home and yoga pants + band tees for chores) but I am crazy about what I wear. I’m not trendy at all, but I am a classic dresser and that never goes out of style. I hate the summer because I have much more to wear in the fall/winter months. I have many, many dresses – sundresses, sheaths, business-y, dressy, casual. I’m not a label person though at all. If I like something I see in Kmart then I’ll buy it! I really like inexpensive basic pieces by the bulk. Things like tank tops, camisoles and knit tees (layering pieces) from Old Navy, the Gap, J.Crew, LL Bean, etc. I have about 30-40 in every color, fabric and print. Sweaters, yay, love. Cashmere, that is the splurge. I have a “go-to uniform” that pretty much works for any occasion – button down top (sleeve lengths vary) over tank or cami with skirt, pants or jeans. I just change the fabrics depending on the occasion. Throw on a blazer or cardigan (again, different fabrics) if it is supposed to be dressier. I love the vest trend too, I only have one in gray though…

I am there with you Gypsee – I don’t have much black. Everything in my closet is apple green, teal, raspberry, violet, plum, royal blue, sunny yellow, burgundy and pants and skirts in many shades and patterns of gray and brown… I have black pants and a pencil skirt but I hate black tops, even though I get compliments if I wear one.

Hair is always neat – I am a woman of color, it has to be neat, bedhead on me looks like I’ve been in a fight. I usually wear mine up though – in a bun, in a clip or whatever with tendrils hanging (morning after-head?). They say that if you wear your hair up all of the time it means you should cut it – no way, I’ve had the short hair and I wasn’t crazy about it. I think what I didn’t like was that I had to actually do and style it – yuck. I am not my mom. My mom is the most perfectly coiffed, perfectly put together woman I have ever seen in my entire life. Perfect coif, perfect make up, “real deal” perfume, as perfect in silk and cashmere as she is in jeans and a t-shirt - that is my double Cap mom. I have an easy do, light scent and make up, that is the look for me…

My ex once told me that he’s never seen me in the same outfit twice and that was the best thing I ever heard in my life! I guess the Libra Moon and 7th house stellium is really at work here!

(Thanks for the topic Gypsee, I needed cheering up and I even went on and on about it in my “knowflake” thread!)

ETA: My look is all very Michelle Obama, now that I think about it (and see an article on Yahoo where she is dressed in an outfit I have! lol)

gypseewind this post made me smile

i would say i'm a fashion do not care though i lean more on fashion do. but i would like to think it's more like i like to look presentable but not over doing it.

i wear classic but moderate to expensive clothes, but i'm not trendy. i stick to brands, but brands that are classic. burberry, banana republic...i wear perfume and like to have all that god blessed me with looking its best. makeup must be perfect. hair must be perfect. or what i consider to be my perfect. i'm not over the top. i think that's my leo vain side trying to break out.
