Some weeks ago, there was some controversy over my using the asteroid, Niger in reference to Blacks and the n'word that Blacks have been called here in USA.

I was using the asteroid in regards to Black/African Americans who often get called the n'word here in USA which dates all the way back to the slavery days.

Deliverance accused me of having lack of empathy because I used an asteroid that is named after her country, Niger. That made me furious.

It wasn't about me not having empathy for people of Niger. It was me having empathy for Black people here in USA that get called the n'word. It's about me being curious about the use of the n'word, wanting to understand why people are of Black/African ancestry are called the n'word here in USA. I wanted to check out asteroid synchronicities in regards to being Black/African and being called the n'word. As an American person that is part Black/African, I know what's it like to be called the n'word. I have been called it numerous times since I was 9 years old, and it's definitely because I am part black. The asteroid,Niger is prominent in my chart with it in Scorpio in 3rd, closely sextile my Ascendant and square the opposition of my Ceres-UnitedNations(multiethnic)in Leo in 11th and my Vertex in Aquarius in 5th. I even had transiting Niger in opposition to my Moon and square the near exact conjunction of my progressed Mercury in Sagittarius and natal Neptune in Sagittarius in 3rd when I was first called the n'word which happened on my 9th birthday. I felt that it initiated me into the Black/African American experience. I am not a descendant of Niger and Nigeria. I am just a descendant of Black African American slaves. I used the asteroid,Niger in regards to my being part Black/African that was called the n'word. I used the asteroid,Niger in my mom's chart in regards to her relationships with a black man that led to a child who was called the n'word. I found the asteroid,Niger sigificant in black race relations issues in Sociological Astrology. Therefore, I used that asteroid as part of my Sociological Asteroid Astrology along with other asteroids to race, color, ethnicity, nationality.

Niger is not only the name of a country in Africa.
It is also the Latin word for "Black"
That is something that I was already aware of. Logic told me that if the word,"negro" is the Spanish,Portuguese word for "black" and if Spanish,Portuguese are languages that stem from Latin, then obviously the word,"niger" is Latin for "black"

Therefore, I don't see how I was wrong to use the asteroid, Niger in regards to people of Black/African descent in USA that get called the n'word that is actually derived from the word, meaning "black" It is also believed that the n'word actually derives from the word,"Niger" too.

niger-, nigri-, negr-
(Latin: the color black)

The word "negro" comes from Latin neger through French négre and Spanish and Portuguese negro. http://www.wordinfo.info/words/index/info/view_unit/1397

There is even a black marble called "Lapis Niger", and it has no connections to the country of Niger. It's meaning actually means "black stone" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapis_Niger

The origin of Negro, and the n'word http://www.brilliantbrown.com/rant/black-issues/origin-of-negro-nigger/

ABOLISH THE N'WORD

There seems to be a few different origins of the "N" word. The term is taken from the Latin word Niger or the French word Negre' both meaning black. When used as a noun it means black person. We can only assume that it was used as a label to refer to the darker skin people of the society. The first time the word "slave" was recorded in use was in 1680 Virginia. Initially the term Niger was probably used during the same time to refer to the slaves at the very beginning of the slave trade. As the term Niger was used, the pronunciation as well as the definition changed. Dr. David Pilgrim and Dr. Phillip Middleton, Professors at Ferris State University noted in their paper on the origins of the "N" word, that the mispronunciation of the word Niger by Southern Slave Masters probably gave way to the word Nigger.

At the same time the Slave Masters' feelings of superiority over the Africans they deemed their cattle grew into contempt and thus the "N" word was born. Birthed from the phonetically misspelling Slave Master and his hate, the "N" word was documented as first being used in 1786. The term was probably in use way before then.

The "N" word was used to refer to slaves throughout the 1700's and 1800's. Previous to this time the label "Moor" was given to men & women of color. By the early 1900's the word "Black" began to appear in print in reference to African Americans. The term was rejected by the community because of its negative connotations and in 1906 Booker T Washington endorsed the term "Negro". The "N" word, once a common label used for African American people official becomes a derogatory racial epithet.

African Americans started using the "N" word to refer to themselves in the 1920's taking the e r off of the end of the word and adding the letter a, "Nigga". Although in use in the Black community it was still a pejorative and at some point depending on the social circles denoted class difference.

The definition of the "N" word was a lazy person with no self respect, no regard for family, ignorant, stupid, slow moving, did not speak proper English and had childlike qualities. The caricatures of Black people in the early 1900's encapsulated this definition. The age of the Harlem Renaissance challenged this idea. Alain Leroy Locke, the first Black Rhode Scholar, is credited as the founder of the Harlem Renaissance. He encouraged Artist, Writers, Poets and Musicians to fully express their African pride by aligning with their rich West African History. This era brought about the "New Negro".

As the late 1960's approached so did a surge of racial pride and the term "Black" was taken on by the African American community as positive. The Black Power Movement proclaimed "Black is Beautiful". The followers of this movement called each other "Brother and Sister" denouncing the use of the "N" word.

The euphemism "The N- Word" came into use during the O.J. Simpson trial. Newspaper reporters started using "The N-word" or "The N-bomb" in their reports so as not to inflame an already tense trial.

Today the African American community still differs in its use of the word Nigger. As some use a neo revisionist attitude in an attempt to redefine the word, still others do not use the word in their vocabulary at all. In 2003, the NAACP successfully influenced Merriam-Webster Lexicographers to change the definition of the word Nigger in the dictionary so that it would no longer mean African Americans.

I also want to reiterate that I don't believe in calling people the n'word. I get angry when people are called the n'word. It's not just me but many other people. I wish that the use of the n'word does get abolished.

However, looking at the asteroid, Niger in regards to race relations in regards to Black/African Americans is not something that I should be chewed out for and have my character questioned and slammed.

That's why I am setting the record straight with this post. This stuff was eating away at me for awhile, making me angry and resentful. I felt a strong need to make myself understood, to be clear about things, set the record straight, and defend myself.

I feel that this is something that we will have to agree to disagree on.

certain bodies in Astrology don't even work the same way for everybody. Not everybody with hard Neptune aspects are delusional, drug addict. Like I pointed out before, those same hard Neptune asects can be found in neurodivergents. That's the same argument with Niger. Not everybody with strong Niger aspects have roots from Niger. These aspects can be for Black/African American people. Heck..for people that have black ancestry, when you consider that "Niger" is Latin for "Black"

That's all I am going to say on this.

------------------
“It is absolutely the perfect name,” Dr. Brown said, given the continuing discord among astronomers and the public over whether Pluto should have retained its planetary status.

In mythology, Eris ignited discord that led to the Trojan War.

“She causes strife by causing arguments among men, by making them think their opinions are right and everyone else’s is wrong,” Dr. Brown said. “It really is just perfect.”

I thought that slang word was spelled with two G's. Niger is a river and the word also means black. Just like negro does in Spanish.

Maybe the asteroid Niger should be limited to astrocartography.

I don't really see what the hoo-hah is. The asteroid isn't prounouced or spelled the same as the offensive slang word. I don't know why there would be a correlation.

It's like asteroid Split.

People from Split might not like having their town being associated with break-up relationships on the rest of the planet. If you were in a bar in Split, introducing the subject on the wrong night might end badly.

Humpty Dumpty does the job just as well, lucky there are plenty of Asteroids. Nice and safe for a night of drinking in Split - just steer away from discussion on politics, religion, and don't look at anyone else's girlfriend and you will be fine.
