~HD I have a question about Mercury, it seems to be 3 movements of sorts.
Starts out as a gorgeous Gershwinesq thing-

then around the 4:22 goes to a tribal space thang.

Transitioning into a gypsy or even middle eastern flavor.

abruptly ending at 8:22

I guess I'm trying to understand the significance of the transitions..any thoughts?

i would'nt mind aquiring a good sampler

Ditto

Thanks for the explanation, an improv or Jazz like approach does not necessitate thinking about it, but feeling it.

And as you know I am a huge Ozric Tentacles fan, and the flavors were well received here.

My Mars is in Gemini, tho in an air deficient chart

I will say that I left the download running, and went to do other things....winks again
It auto played ambiently, I think "what is that gorgeous sound?" [Dial-up here the download took sometime]...."surely that is not a car in the parking lot of my building" as my charming neighbors tend to blast top 4o crap.
Then I realized it was Mercury.

I am doing it a disservice by having a flintstone string...that is soon to change.

I found many layers to enjoy with this post HD~ Thanks so much...

Never heard of a *Celesta* before,

now I have a name for one of my favorite sounds from childhood.
A live performance of The Nutcracker Suite w/ the celesta used in Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy. (=^_^=)

*The sound of the celesta is akin to that of the glockenspiel, but with a much softer and more subtle timbre. This quality gave rise to the instrument's name, celeste meaning "heavenly" in French.

And this-..
Use in other musical genres
[edit] Jazz
Since its adoption by Earl Hines in 1928, the celesta has been used occasionally by jazz pianists as an alternative instrument. Fats Waller in the 1930s sometimes played the celesta with his right hand and the piano simultaneously with his left hand. Other notable jazz pianists who occasionally played the celesta include Meade "Lux" Lewis, Willie "The Lion" Smith, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, Sun Ra, and Herbie Hancock. A celesta provides the introduction to a song Louis Armstrong recorded for RCA entitled "Someday You'll Be Sorry", and is featured prominently throughout the song

Now I will listen to my Ra, Monk, Peterson, Armstrong, Duke with new ears. I wont go looking for where it was used (although w/ Louis I already have the location ^^. I will let the Aha moment surprise me.

I have acquisition fever for Holst: The Planets, and thanks for the heads up to the Excellent Device
