I saw Dr. Levinson in June 2005 in New York. He diagnosed me as having a cerebellar vestibular dysfunction and recognized my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia. It was his test results that I took to Veteran Affairs neurologists who confirmed my abnormal cerebellar system and diagnosed my Dyslexia and Dyspraxia in 2006.

It was reading his book, SMART BUT FEELING DUMB in 2003 that made realize that I was misdiagnosed and that psychiatrists mistook my Dyslexic,Dyspraxic speech difficulties for psychotic speech patterns. He understood that neuro-divergent symptoms are mistook for psychological problems/psychiatric disorders. He had empathized with what I went through. When I said that psychiatrists told me that I slight thought disorder, he replied "They are the ones with the slight thought disorder."

I strongly recommend his books for understanding how neuro-divergent conditions work. He explains the processing difficulties in great detail. He even understands how many of us can have problems with eye contact with others because of coordination,sensory-integration difficulties.

Back to School - Dramatic Medical Help and Hope for the Learning Disabled

As summarized within Smart But Feeling Dumb, Dr. Levinson's groundbreaking research effort has demonstrated that dyslexia and a score of differently named but related disorders (i.e., LD, ADD, Dyspraxia, Anxiety, Phobias, Panic, etc.) all result from a signal scrambling dysfunction within the inner-ear and its supercomputer - the cerebellum. Most important, 75 - 85% of treated patients respond favorably to inner-ear-enhancing medications and nutrients.
dyslexics not experts truly understand and thus define their disorder
decades ahead of its time

Great Neck, NY (PRWEB) September 16, 2009 -- Renowned Psychiatrist and Neurologist Dr. Harold Levinson has successfully treated over 35,000 patients - offering rapid, dramatic medical help for those with Dyslexia, LD and ADD.

With the summer vacation over, parents and children are gearing up for the new school year. Unfortunately, well over 20 percent of students with known and especially hidden forms of dyslexia and related learning, attention-deficit, impulse and anxiety disorders, including school phobias and avoidance, are destined to continue suffering needless and preventable frustration, failure and impaired self-esteem.

In his ground-breaking book, SMART BUT FEELING DUMB, Dr. Levinson and scores of his many patients demonstrate that it is now possible to comprehensively understand and successfully treat these children so that they can feel as bright as they really are and attain dreams and ambitions that otherwise might never be theirs.

By recognizing and following the clinical truism that "dyslexics not experts truly understand and thus define their disorder," Dr. Levinson's insights irrefutably demonstrate:

* Dyslexia is an inner-ear syndrome encompassing hundreds of diverse reading and non-reading symptoms in varying degrees of severity and compensation. Contrary to prior and even current misconceptions, dyslexics may have normal and even superior reading scores as well as many differently named "overlapping disorders" i.e., dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, Aspergers syndrome, psychosomatics (headaches, vertigo, dizziness, etc.) - all resulting from a simple signal-scrambling dysfunction within the inner-ear and its supercomputer, the cerebellum.
* Rapid, dramatic and wide-ranging improvements occur when children and adults with the dyslexia syndrome are holistically treated with safe combinations of inner-ear-enhancing medications, nutrients and non-medical techniques similar to those used by the astronauts to prevent disorientation and "space dyslexia."

Of major importance, we can now understand and also significantly prevent the staggering emotional/social and occupational/economic fall-out secondarily resulting from the above inner-ear determined disorders. These include school phobias and dropouts, alcoholism, drug abuse, inability to hold jobs, occupational absenteeism, work-related and other types of accident proness, marital and parental discord, criminal and violent acting-out, as well as the mood dysfunction triggered by poor self-esteem and body image.

Additionally, the dyslexic syndrome due to an inner-ear (cerebellar vestibular) dysfunction was recognized to play a hidden, "minor" symptomatic role in a series of major disorders such as mental retardation, brain injury (whiplash, concussions), cerebellar ataxia, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, etc. And by treating and improving the signal-scrambling in these mixed major processing disorders, it was often possible to obtain greater overall functional benefits.
