http://wcbstv.com/topstories/swine.flu.h1n1.2.1216352.html Workers are being told to either get the swine flu vaccine or lose their jobs. New York is the first state in the country to mandate flu vaccinations for its health care workers. The first doses of swine flu vaccine will be available beginning next week. Much of it is reserved for state health care workers, but there is growing opposition to required innoculations. Health care workers in Hauppauge screamed "No forced shots!" as they rallied Tuesday against the state regulation requiring them to roll up their sleeves. "I don't even tend to the sick. I am in the nutrition field. They are telling me I must get the shot because I work in a health clinic setting," said Paula Small, a Women, Infants and Children health care worker. Small said she will refuse, worried the vaccine is untested and unproven, leaving her vulnerable. In 1976, there were some deaths associated with a swine flu vaccination. Registered nurse Frank Mannino, 50, was also angry. He said the state regulation violates his personal freedom and civil rights. "And now I will lose my job if I don't take the regular flu shot or the swine flu shot." When asked if he's willing to lose his job, Mannino said, "Absolutely. I will not take it, will not be forced. This is still America." The protest also shook Albany Tuesday. Hundreds of demonstrators demanded freedom of choice. After all, as health care professionals they argue they're already constantly washing their hands and aren't likely to transmit or contract the flu. Around 500,000 health care workers are slated to receive the vaccine. "It's certainly their prerogative to voice their opinion," said Dr. Susan Donelan of Stony Brook University Hospital. Donelan said most in the medical community see the benefits and safety of the shots and welcome them, and that hospitals must obey the law. "Our hospital is committed to following the mandate to have our personnel vaccinated," she said. The state said change was needed this year to save lives, typically only about 45 percent of health care workers take advantage of voluntary flu vaccines. More than 150 institutional outbreaks of seasonal and H1N1 flu are expected this year in hospitals, nursing homes and hospice centers. New York and New Jersey will get their first doses of the swine flu vaccine next week. It will be the nasal mist, not a shot.

Everyone should refuse it and bring down the system. The swine flu vaccine contains a microchip plus is designed to cull the population, which is why this whole damn swine flu crap has been putting everyone through the "fear" hoop.REBEL and stay HEALTHY. Anyone who takes this vaccine deserves what is coming to them. I'm so happy to see people stand up for their rights and be prepared to lose their jobs in defiance of the authorities. May their master plan fail. HA! IP: Logged |

A health worker here told me about similar, so Lara and I have already had a conversation on this topic. What I was told was that there was a double jab of swine flu and seasonal flu as the fear is that it will mutate and cause a health crisis. There seems something faulty with the logic of vaccinating against a mutation that hasn't happened yet, or maybe I am being thick. The media whips up hysteria, the Daily Mail is a classic, running a strident editorial during the Swine Flu outbreak this summer saying it's a disgrace, Tamiflu isn't being made available enough. Next week saying it's a disgrace, it is being handed out like sweets. FFS. The people that screech the loudest in protest now will be the ones clamouring at the door of the hospital for protection for them and their own if the oft-predicted 'flu pandemic hits town.

The mortality rate of the swine flu is so, so very low that it is not currently a cause for concern. The normal flu kills 30,000 people a year and we are not in panic mode over that, nor have we ever been. Most people who get the swine flu, experience less severe symptoms, in comparison with the normal flu, and generally recover with ease. Media hype, like with sars and the bird flu. Vaccines carry many nasty ingredients which are detrimental to the immune system and overall health of the individual. Of course in China, it seems some are paranoid. I had a normal fever, and the campus seemed to be going crazy. They now spray ammonia all over the campus, and students have spread rumors that I have...yah. As if people don't get sick from OTHER THINGS from time to time. Because of me, they made students get up early every day for a week to take their temperatures. Oh, and if everyone at a given job refused, well, they can't just fire EVERYONE!! IP: Logged |

Yah PA, I was going to say...I find it funny that it is a struggle to supply enough flu vaccinations to meet demand on a yearly basis, and yet, they will magically have enough swine flu vaccinations to meet demand? Seems fishy to me. IP: Logged |

Might be a good time to invest in shares of a certain pharmaceutical company, carl. No names mentioned. IP: Logged |

Yes, just boycott it whatever happens. Swine flu won't kill you but the vaccine probably willand no, I'm not joking. Anyway, no way are my kids getting any jab, even if they have to leave school! IP: Logged |

damn media anyway...I commeted on this on Zala's post in H/H.A coworker of mine, just yesterday told me a tale.. he, a fellow nurse, was once stationed in a foreign country (I forget which) and all men/women were called to a tent one night... He reports they were lined in (like cattle) given a vaccination in each arm and not told what they were being vaccinated for! Turns out anthrax. The collective energy of this global issue ahd become ridiculous! No, we should not vaccinate individuals without their consent and not threatning their livlihoods!!! What the hell? Some sort of communision here? What happened to a free nation? IT IS JUST THE FLU!!! Practice personal hygiene and one will be way on their way to health. DAMN media anyway! (well, atleast it gives some folks something to watch on the news... ) t~~~ IP: Logged |

BTWI will reiterate here, I will take the H1N1 vacc when it is available. I work in a very "dirty" hospital and I have to do what I have to do to keep my daughter and my love safe. But I DO NOT recommend (as a nurse) H1N1 or seasonal vacc for healthy individuals!! Just practice personal hygiene!! blessings guinea pig me.... t~~~ IP: Logged |

What?! Enforced vaccinations are so wrong in so many ways. Health workers should be able to decide on their own if it's worth getting one or not, especially considering that they work in health and hopefully know enough to decide on their own what they should do to keep healthy. Surely this will be stopped soon...IP: Logged |

FFS" - blue moonbm, i remember citing an article from the MIRROR in GU because the VERY SAME ARTICLE carried both the "for" and "against" stories...and they weren't just using examples of people's opinions...i guess they adhere to the belief that people will only see what they already agree with.... for everyone's information the constitution gives you the ultimate right to decide what happens to your body. NO ONE can force you legally to have any jabs or treatment you refuse. those workers should get out on strike PRONTO. like hospitals aren't already the best place to contract a fatal infection! I'm a health care worker who's probably gonna get it, but really only because we've already seen so many positive Cases on our floor and I don't feel like catching it. I've had the flu twice before and it was not pretty. IP: Logged |

Well since Ive had the shot millions of times before......yeah. Everyone's entitled to do what they want (I have NOT heard anything about this being manditory btw) but I would rather not take any risks. My immunity has never been that good (accounting for how Ive gotten the flu twice). And I sure as hell don't want to spread whatever I may catch from work to family members. IP: Logged |
