Lindaland is a refuge for many.

I thought it might be interesting
to compare how we see Lindaland,
specifically, as a refuge.

For me, it is a place to escape
from the superficiality that's so
prevalent in the outer world.

This is a place we can come to
to discuss meaningful things,
and that's not easy to find.

We can all turn on the television
any time we want to be inundated
with images of hardbodies and
all sorts of low-brow sex humor.

And half the forums on the web
are designed with the intention
of hosting things like that.
It's hard to escape that stuff.

But this is a place we've found,
where ethical and metaphysical issues
are shown the respect they deserve;

Where we can come and talk about God,
or about various spiritual matters,
without fear of being ridiculed, or
judged for having these lofty concerns.

This is why Lindaland is a refuge for me.

How is it a refuge for you?

I don't consider it a refuge. My LiveJournal is my refuge.

I consider LindaLand interesting and I've met some nice people here. Occasionally, I can help someone with some insight and sometimes someone notices me enough to give me some (I think that since I've changed my screen name a couple times people probably don't know who I am anymore).

I used to frequent the dream forum here all the time and Ra was an immense help to me for quite some time in that area.

Now you've finally intrigued me with something that's personal.

At first I came to expand my knowledge with a community that has the same interests as I do. a place where I don't have to explain they why of those interests. I don't contribute much because I'm still learning astrology but I read most things in astro2.

Now I also come to talk, play, cry, complain & occasionally argue with friends I've made here.

Re your comment about sexually explicit television..... I prefer not to watch that kind of content. My reason for switching off the television is due to the endless horror I see there. Constantly watching the news & current world events depresses me & when I'm in that place I find it very hard to get out.

I made the choice to help where I am instead of crying over what I cannot change.

I love my refuge. It's a beautiful & multifaceted wonderland.

My reasons are pretty similar to Valus'. I dont know people like all of you in the real world. It's nice to be able to come here and be understood (mostly lol!) and connect with like minds. It's sort of like spending time with family. Sometimes maddening, mostly pleasant. I do feel like some of the members here are my true family.

LindaLand...

a place I first stumbled upon looking for more information on Linda Goodman in 2003. I was going through a rough transition back then. I had just realized I was in an intellectual and spiritual desert for what happened to be years to come. LindaLand was my "going back home" where I saw like-minded people talking about like-minded subjects. It made me less lonely. I used to have friends in real life with whom I talked about spirituality, astrology, divination etc. That all ended in 2002.

And then I found you, guys.

Blessed be.

Hmmm...

I come here for various reasons.

  • I come to entertain myself when I've got nothing to do.
  • I come to be amongst people who will understand if I make an astrological comment.
  • I come to see if there are any good ideas out there that I'm unaware of.
  • I come to be amongst people more likely to show their heart.
  • I come to stretch my own legs, and be a bit less compact than I am in real life.
  • I come to add a different (and hopefully valued) perspective.

Oh, and I come here to show off my UBB Coding skills. Jealous?

Or it's a place to escape from reality, avoid responsibility, waste time, and live in our heads.

Sorry I just had a saturn seizure. That is the MOST negative interpretation (but true for me).

EXCELLENT use of bullet points AG, I am "totes jeal"

For me, it is a place to escape
from the meaningfulness that's so
prevalent in the outer world.

This is a place I can come to
to discuss frivolous things,
I try elswhere but not everyone shares my sense of humour,
though generally men over 60 are very keen
on the low-brow sex gags

I rarely watch television
when I do I like to watch the news
or politics shows
but my kids are frightened by the images
the ones you refer to
and they dislike politics

half the forums on the web
are too full of bile for my tastes
like a pack of wild weasels in there
said one guy on a forum I used to go to

But this is a place we've found,
where generally people are decent
though I can tell a few have some serious problems
and would disturb me
if I had to cross them in the street

we can come and talk about God,
or about various spiritual matters,
without being looked at like we are insane
Or astrology which tends to get the same reaction
at least in this part of the world

here you ask a question
that I thought about at work
so this is my answer
I doodled a bit of poetry
but time did not allow for that

King Arthur's Round Table
where the Knights sit around all friends together
neither one the master
is like the archetypes on the zodiac wheel
all part of the whole

here are the twins
they seek knowledge and they understand
don't be fooled when they laugh it all off
in a moment of frivolity

as the Queen of the Geminis
Anne Frank laughed in hiding
before they came
and took her to her death
it says so in her book
my grandfather bought it for me
when I was ten years old
he had helped liberate her camp
as a young soldier
he never talked about it
but he knew
if he laughed at the silly comedy shows on T.V
don't think he had forgotten what he saw

for me, its a Forum, to discuss Astrology.

thats the main purpose i recognize it for, i love forums.

so, because of that, i come here to study/learn astrology. Learn being the key . and to Discuss related subjects to it.

and i love doing so. because through discussions, i Learn more about it.

it offers more discussions than just astrology, i tend to stick to astrology on this one generally.

anything else, is just an added bonus for me - meeting people, and even better..'e-friendships'. its nice to learn about others from other cultures, backgrounds, etc.

really, its a refuge for expression, but thisn't isn't unique to lindaland, i feel like the internet generally is, particularly on forums.

in my social life, i do not express my self so freely, i am much more 'introvert'.

lindaland is one of many forums where i can just let my mind be more 'free'.

I come here because it's a different crowd from what I get IRL. I learn and grow here-- it seems there is always something to test my boundaries, so I get ample opportunities to recalibrate myself instead of just settling into my ways.

I also love to come here for advice. I get something very different here from what I get "outside."

Who I am here is a bit different from who I am otherwise. Here I find the freedom to express my softer side, whereas in the real world, I'm much more cynical, and some even say mean. I think I'm touched to see how people drop their masks to a degree when they're anonymous. I try to be careful with that. It moves me. Really, it does.

i first came here looking for answers to questions, specific questions. i didn't get them LOL! but i met a bunch of big-hearted people who i can say things to that would get me the "crazy" look outside!

still looking for those answers but it seems only life and time will answer them. i don't believe they are to be found in astrology...

learned a lot of new things along the way, astrologically and otherwise.

don't watch tv, so no need to escape it.

as to refuge, it seems to me that we all have our different mechanisms for uplifting our moods. some consider others' beneath them, but what difference does it make? we can meet in those places where we have common ground and leave the rest to take care of itself...

and i am always happy to read ANY post by BM!

Awesome topic, Valus!

I found LL when I lived in California in 2002 when I was looking into Linda stuff online. I was trying to get more info on Aquarian/Gemini relationships and spent COUNTLESS hours obsessing over it in SU for a while with Astro Junkie back in the day. After a while, I ventured into the other forums and met some really awesome people and was exposed to a lot of new ideas in conneciton with things I was already interested in.

I spent time fighting it out in GU until I began to lose my faith and then ended up in Astral Realms with Libra Sparkle, Pixelpixie, (future, i think you were in there too,) T and MoonWitch as well. BTW, Ra is amazing! We had some fun times exploring our dreams and getting to know each other.

I got pretty introverted in real life and began to write poetry, so of course, finally shared it in Yellow Wax. Some more wonderful people to be met in there. VAA was awesome, I miss her.

I don't know how I ended up as a Mod, a position I don't think I really live up to at all since I don't have a lot of time to devote here unless I'm way bored at work (such as this week when a boss is away).

I come here now because I'm always interested in what new ideas, old ideas, art, stories, jokes, songs, poems, youtube videos, words of wisdom or just astral hugs are to be found here among people I do honestly consider friends.

We don't always get along here, I've certainly had my share of falling outs and falling back ins over the years. I think we all know that's kind of one of the reasons we come back. We can be ourselves, and ourselves are not always nice, not always pretty, but we can be who we are here and know that at least one person will get where we are coming from, even on our worst days.
