11/11 is here again. So I would like to pay my respects to those who lost their lives in wars, and those who are not with us anymore.

I went to a Mexican Day of the Dead carnival on Friday, it was great and I thought showed a really healthy attitude to death.

In one corner of the place there was a shrine and you could write a message to your dead loved-one, or make a model of them out of clay. It was great.

So this thread is a shrine to the dead. Feel free to write a message and if you like why they were important to you. I'm gonna! Pictures, flowers, celebration of LIFE.

Dear Granddad
I never met you because you died before I was born, of the injuries you sustained in Burma during WW2.

Thank you for your sacrifices.

Thank you that you made my mother feel so special and that you appreciated her considerable athletic talents. Thank you for buying her some running shoes which meant you went without tobacco and had to walk to work. Thank you for visiting my sister often, she knows you are her protective angel. Thank you for giving me the same hands and build as you. Thank you Fred. Another beautiful Aquarian.

We lost you this year. I will never forget having a rollie with you on the back steps and we talked about Buddhism and forgiveness, which to my eternal shame I never expected from a big old construction worker, thanks for the jolt and the lesson never ever to judge a book by its cover. RIP you gentle Libran soul.

This is beautiful Wheels.

I wasn't going to write anything but I have been flooded with memories of the few souls who shone the most brilliant light in my times of darkness.

I want to thank Molly & Sin. These 2 angels were my only source of comfort & were my best friends who loved me during a most horrid youth. If not for them I don't know what mess I would be in.

To Barry - One of the few truly humble Leo men I have the privilege to call friend You taught me to fight the good fight. To stand up for the truth & not let others sweep it under the carpet because it was more convenient for them not to look at the ugliness of life. Thank you for encouraging me, for standing by my side when no one else would. Thank you for believing in me. I will treasure you always.

Finally...

Thank you Poppy. Your quiet reassurance & gentle spirit meant more to me than you could ever know. I'm just sorry that I was too young & messed up to tell you these things before you passed away.

I miss you all so much.

You knew you had a charmed life, and you wanted others who didn't have your advantages to experience life to the fullest. You were the embodiment of the notion that mighty oaks grow from tiny acorns. You live on through your work and I am blessed to have known you.

Pire, my friend of the Plutonic Moon, that was my feeling also. But thank you Wheels for this beautiful thread.

I especially liked the Buddha photo and comment. It never does to assume what people know and don't, it can be surprising.

I won't be sharing anything here, but wanted to say that this is beautiful. I planned on doing my own Day of the Dead celebration, this year, but ended up feeling unwell. Next year.

I can't believe that, this year, I forgot all about the Poppies on November 11th. I've been out of England much too long ~ I'm afraid that I'm forgetting everything that I grew up with.

Thanks for this thread. I want to remember
my son, the cops said suicide, I know he was
murdered, but then again I believe it must have been his time to go.
