I've been too relieved to really start being happy but all your happiness is starting to make me happy too! I definately think I was once again (this has happened before) the victim of the universe's sick little game of 'triple-reverse-mind'f # c k'. Basically THIS job is unbeliavably ideal ... all the things that I had been dissatisfied with two years ago have now been removed from the equation so I can revisit my elementary school teaching experience minus sadistic ex-military child-beating co-teacher. Now I'll have the time to get to know each child individually ... really as if they were my own children, because there are literally only a dozen students in the school. Literally. LITERALLY. This year there were ten, yes I said TEN students in the ENTIRE school! It's like something from Ripley's believe it or not. Actually it's like a super-exclusive private school ... I mean there is nothing one can't do if you have that much time for so few students. Amazing. So even though I do regret not getting to do the writing course (I love writing and fiction and poetry and prose and stories etc.) I am happy that I'll get the opportunity to be legally insane again. 'Old MacDonald had a farm' and other songs and activities of the same ilk (repetitive and soooo silly) are sort of my forte, because I am a genius at making a fool of myself. So bring it on: the Hokey Pokey, Bingo games, going shopping roleplay, drawing pictures of monsters and princesses, reading Green Eggs and Ham again and again and again ... a total Dr. Seuss takeover! : D Anyway, the school is also set in truly beautiful surroundings that actually remind me very much of my university town in South Africa, and of South Africa in general maybe ... a little bit deserted with nature all over the place, which is sort of how I grew up thinking the whole world was like ... Although I wanted to be a city mouse it seems like I'll be a country mouse for a while yet. Who knows, maybe I'll give up on universities alltogether ... I sometimes find it hard not to cynically see them as the firewall that keeps the have-nots out of the loop, if you'll know what I mean. Anyway, it seems it was a necessary diversion because there would have been no reason for my present school to look around for a replacement if I hadn't been so confident about getting the university job, which I know in my heart I could have done better than any of the other candidates I met while interviewing btw ... As my new school is right on the doorstep of my old school, I wouldn't have been able to go there of my own free will without giving offense to my current school, which I wouldn't have wanted to do anyway ... Yet these things are astoundingly important - so much is implicit and so little is said directly that it would be easy to get the repuation of being either unreliable or stuck up if you go searching around in exactly the same area for a different school ... But as neccessity literally propelled me to this new position (in other words, my present school 'broke up with me' prematurely, and not the other way round, and without good reason to boot) I am in the fortunate position where I come out as the good guy ... I'm not deserting them for a school of apparently inferior status (I mean ... middle school to small elementary school doesn't make sense and doesn't add prestige to the middle school, where-as middle school to prestigious university with much higher pay would have been acceptable). Urgh, I hope I'm making sense ... it really is all rather complicated, but the point is I'm satisfied that in following my instincts and feeling I wasn't being delusional, but was in fact cooperating and playing my part in a bigger plan, which is sort of what I always hope for, you know? Aaaaanyway, thanks everyone for your support and kind words... they helped more than you can imagine : ) Love and hugs ... ------------------ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.
