jane, i get what you're saying about drugs and i think a lot of the PROBLEM with drugs that help you SEE is that they tend to slam the doors open and often when people are not adequately prepared for the sight...and then there is the frailty of humans that they want to run right back to that place but can't function "normally" when they are there...

suffice it to say that MOST people who took acid and had revelations have been attempting to "get back" without drugs for decades...

There are some native americans that use peyote for spiritual insights.

There are others like salvia divinorum that is used as a shamanic herb, but too many people are abusing it and using it frivolously that there are states that want to make it a controlled substance like marijuana.

I remember reading Carlos Castaneda in my teenage years - according to his teacher, women did not need hallucinogenic plants to get into the spiritual/ energy worlds as they were/ are more receptive to those worlds. Something to do with the ego or its lack thereof.
