So, it started about a week ago...My daughter and her boyfriend had their pictures taken (she's nine months pregnant) and she wanted to know if I had an 8 x 10 picture frame that she could have. I said, "let me check my closet." My closet has gone bad. Something has gone very wrong in there. IDK what happened, usually I am neat, but now, for some reason, when I try to shut the door, it pops open. It's packed. Anyway, I found her frame, and about half a dozen more. So, I started looking around in there, you know, taking inventory. How many pairs of Converse does one really need?? Will I EVER wear the lavender ones, knowing full well that I hate purple?? How about the black ones with flames, hmmm. Ok, so my general rule of thumb is this: Whatever I buy, that much must go out. So, if I get a package of six socks, then I get rid of six old pairs. I use this rule with all clothing, this way, everything always fits. I don't have to put my summer clothes away in the winter, or vice-versa, I can fit EVERY peice of clothing I own, in my drawers or my closet, including coats!! I must have not been paying attention, and this, has now become somewhat of a metaphor. So, now with spring on the horizon, I must clean out my actual, and my psychological closet. Out are going the lavender converse, and extra picture frames, among other things... But, I guess what I'm getting at, is the stuff lurking way in the corners, the stuff that you really don't mess with because you don't have to. That's what needs to come out. So, I'm thinking of getting rid of: Wasted and Useless Guilt. I cannot change the past, and wishing it was any different only causes grief, Lord knows I have enough of that, without bringing more on myself. Actions and ReActions That No Longer Serve Me. I mean, the definition of insanity is doing what you've always done and expecting different results, right? So, that one has to go. I have more, but, I'm interested if anyone else has a closet cleaning contribution??? IP: Logged |

Hey dudess, you haven't been well, so cleaning out something has to slide eh? If I was near you I'd totally swap you for the lavender converse as in my opinion you can never have too many pairs of those! Umm, when it comes to me I'm pretty much like you though. If one thing comes in another goes out. I am much more geared in to quality over quantity these days. I rarely see a piece of clothing I think "Wow" about but when I do I break the bank to have it and know I will love it for years. All my clothes are simple styles in block colours - other than skirts, which tend to be mad patterns. Sort of like my house, walls and floors plain and then crazy accessories. My most recent acquisition is a pale blue full length velvet coat with emerald trim on the cuffs and lapels. It cost more than anything I own (about $160 in your money and I saved up for months to buy it). No way that's ever being got rid of. And if I apply the same logic to everything I need never clean out my closet too often. I have a three-drawer dresser and that does me for everything, but I reckon I will put a rail up instead of having a closet (or wardrobe in British) so that I can see what I've got and mix and match better. Also, moving 33 times in 24 years helps. You don't want to lug anything around. I wish downtomars were here, I miss that girl. She was a demon when it came to closet-ordering and general amazing Virgoan tendencies. to you Gypsee. Often thinking of you. IP: Logged |

Wheels!! You just totally read my mind! I was thinking of DownToMars when I was writing that, and I was thinking of asking you if you heard from her, or knew if she was ever coming back! Man, I miss her long detailed posts, don't you?? P.S. If you have size 5 feet, I will totally send you the lavender converse, I've only worn them once, and somebody told me I looked like Punky Brewster, I think that's why I've gone off them. Will check email, Kiss IP: Logged |

Hey there Gypsee..This is such a coincidence. I have used that phrase "cleaning out the closet" A LOT this past month with my new bf. With me I SO need to clean my entire bedroom, but I've used that phrase so much with him in terms of ending bad relationships. There's guy#1 I've known for over 3 years. This person has "borrowed" money from me he will never return, asked for and received help with groceries, asked for and received help with rent and other misc bills, among other things I did for him. This person was like a drug to me. Hard to explain, but he's an emotional vampire that needed to be gone. There's guy#2 It started off fine and I thought we had a lot in common. Then he told me how he had an accident at 3 yrs old where he was run over by a car..over his head. This caused mental problems growing up and he is now on SSI. I didn't want that to be a reason to end a relationship. But he is living with his mom...still..at 41 yrs old and has to call her whenever he goes out to check in. He has odd mood swings too. The final straw for me was when his birthday came and his mom threw a little family party for him. He told me that my 10 yr old couldn't come because his mom couldn't handle kids. I wasn't about to tell my son...who was looking forward to this party.. that he couldn't come. So to make a long story longer...all the little things added up to too much. And this was ending a 3 yr relationship too. So I've been telling my bf that it's been a year of "cleaning out the closet" exact words, I swear! And funny thing is he has also started using that phrase with me as well when talking about so called friends in his life who he has cut ties with. And when I stopped by here and saw the title of the thread I had to stop in soooo how's the closet coming along? IP: Logged |

That is funny, I've been thinking of you recently, cause I hadn't seen you much on AG's thread.Yep, well, cleaning out my closet, always makes me think of Eminem!!! I don't want to seem that radical about it, but, some stuff just hasta go!! I mean stuff and "stuff." arggg. I am feeling the Scorpio moon thingy big time, sorry. IDK, when relationships pass their expiration date. I am not good at this. I tend to hang on and hang in there. It takes a ridiculous amount for me to cut ties. Usually, the other person cuts ties with me because of my flighty freedom loving ways. But, I forgive so much, Wink, so much. I don't want to change that, I mean, that is part of what makes me who I am, but I do think that it's time to be a little wiser about who I let INTO my life from here on out. The ones that are already in it, I feel too attached to. So, the closet, it's coming along slowly, but it will get there!! Good luck with your new fella! IP: Logged |

Oh, man! When I clean out my old stuff - I CLEAN OUT EVERYTHING!Sometimes I take out so much and throw away stuff that I still need. Guess who could have benefited now of those size 4 and 6 clothes that they got rid of during their fat years? And where do I put all the size 14 and 16 clothes? Ughhh. Well, at least I donated everything to the Red Cross and the Salvation Army and some friends. BTW I have the least amount of clothes and shoes among all the girls I know. Must be something wrong with me. Stuff suffocates me. The only things that I tend to collect are papers, books, magazines and such.
