Read ye some Yeats,
'ave ye some eats,
raise yer voice in merry song
even if yer not Irish,
come sing along,
enjoy a frothy pint o' stout
stayin in or goin out,
round the table we will feast
bread from soda instead o' yeast
Celebrate this merry day,
in the merry Irish way!!

dumb poem by me...

to the inner yeats…

The other day I realized I had no clue what or who we are drinking to in the ‘states. Not that we need a reason.
Public television has had a raft of Irish shows on, I found an St Patrick one and was treated to that version of the lore and history.

Be interesting to hear what others think about St Paddy.
Societal/cultural is the focus here it seems.

Not that quiness isn’t running thru my veins…I am predominately MUTT irish. My middle is Erin.
And the scent of well corned beef in the air seduces me. I scamper to the source. My father used to make soda bread on a Sunday.

They turn the river green somewhere….chi-town?

Yes- here->
Environmentally friendly? Or just mental?

I forgot to wear green. Looking around my BART train it seems I'm not the only one.

I learned this past Christmas that I also have some Irish heritage. I wasn't aware of that previously.

Boston, I think. NO idea how this started, I'm sure I could take a mo to Google it. This is the first year in my life my family hasn't had a big dinner to celebrate, too much going on with new houses, new babies and distance. For us it's more another reason to get together with family and have a meal/drink together. Not so much the drink for me, but I so enjoy the meal! LOL

what and why we celebrate is the irish will do anything for an excuse to have a drink and a get together. corned beef and cabbage is one of those impossible-to-ruin dishes so if the cook gets drunk everyone can still eat!!

tho i'm half irish i have never bothered with the green thing but my daughter called me this morning to say she forgot about it and she hopes her son doesn't get pinched to death, as he bruises VERY easily with his low platelet count!! and schoolkids love an excuse to be physical/ tormenting! i just don't care about that kind of silly holiday observation, tho i've had many a party on the 17th - it's my mother-in-law's birthday!!
