A father travels to Mongolia to find shamanic healing for his autistic son. Best Synopsis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X816PJlI8kE official trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYkT_GndKtE I was trying to find the clip where the shaman tells the parents that the boy is going to become a shaman and then one of those doctors is talking about how we can either look at autistic spectrum people and say "they are sick" or we can say "this is a different kind of person, with a unique role to play in society". He says the most striking thing about these shamanistic cultures is that the shamans, who have learned how to heal themselves and others, are chosen from the ranks of the mentally disturbed. He was saying that we exacerbate the disturbances that accompany neurodivergence. And that, while these types of people may become instrumental in the healing and leadership of a shamanistic community, ours is one of the only cultures that stigmatizes, segregates and institutionalizes them. Something like that. If you see the film, I think the part I'm talking about is from 1:14 (or an hour and 14 minutes into it) until 1:17. These are pretty good: Film Clip #1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIP8wkMKKRc Film Clip #2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DAu-v6NvZc ------------------ The Pigeon Hole
"The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings - words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within, not for want of a teller, but, for want of an understanding ear." ~Stephen King IP: Logged |

It was a good documentary. I am impressed that their foundation does not charge for the horse therapy but rather relies on donations. IP: Logged |

The father wrote a book, too. This documentary should be marked:
EXHIBIT "A"

Warning, though:The previews are more entertaining, and more emotional, than the film, lol, which kind of drags. There are a few good scenes, and the end is highly vindicating. Mostly, its cool just because it's good evidence in support of shamanic healing and neurodivergence theories. IP: Logged |
