Last year on April 14th at around 5pm, my friend Michele was killed in a freak traffic accident. She had recently gotten married for the first time at age 40, and became an instant step-mom and step grandma. I was her maid of honor. She had gotten a new job working at a school, and she loved her "kids" (she never had any of her own) so much. She had just gotten approved for a gastric bypass operation, as she was close to 300 pounds, and her weight was starting to break down her joints badly. Everything was going so well for her. As it happens when one friend gets married, we had drifted apart. We still exchanged Christmas gifts and birthday calls and stuff like that, but her new hubby was a recovering alcoholic, so she couldn't bring him to where I worked, and I couldn't go to where she worked. We had opposite schedules, and I just didn't try hard enough to figure something out. But she was always on my mind. I wish I could of told her I loved her. But, I know she knows that I do. The strangest thing about this story is that she died one year from the DAY that my best friend died of liver failure. With him I was at the hospital every day, I also stopped by his house every night when they discharged him into hospice care. I was fortunate enough to be at his bedside when he took his last breath. So, I know both sides of the coin in these situations. As hard as it is to watch someone you love leave, it's much better than to live with regret. The WEIRDEST thing about this story, is that as my friend was dying in the traffic accident, at the EXACT time (and a year from my best friend's death) my daughter was in a traffic accident on the paralell (sp?) road on the exact opposite side of town. (She's fine) As I was holding her hand, while they were loading her stretcher into the ambulance, I saw the rescue squad squealing past to the other accident, having no idea that it was my friend Michele, who would end up in the same hospital minutes later. The Universe can be very strange sometimes, and we are not privvy to all information. We can ask why all we want, and sometimes there are simply no answers. Best to cover the bases and always tell those you love how you feel. Even if they can't respond in kind, they will appreciate it more than you can possibly imagine. My friend that died of liver failure had to listen to me tell him I loved him every day. He used to roll his eyes at me, and tell me to "quit gushing, I'm going to be fine, you act like I'm dying!" He knew he was, but he didn't want anyone to suffer. I'm so glad I told him over and over. I can still feel him somewhere out there, telling me the same things back, and guiding me in my moments of darkness. Love never dies. IP: Logged

I remember when me and my partner went through a very difficult stage a couple of years ago, we would just hold hands without saying a word, both of us thinking that if we can hold hands, we will pull through, just don't let go of each other's hand. They accused me of "trying to suck up to people", because by their standards, no one cares that much about "internet friends". How sad for them. katatonic Knowflake Posts: 3904 From: Registered: Apr 2009	posted May 21, 2010 09:45 AM unfortunately even in "real" life soo many people are too busy to stop and love someone...or they think it is sappy...my grandson is currently going through a little runaround with mean kids...who call him fat because he is not skinny like most of them, and tall too (unlike most of them)...he is smart, confident, kind and handsome AND his mom is there for him; theirs are not and this seems to be how they take out their frustrations, on him. an evolved scorpio, he is not really interested in "getting back" at them, and has devised a plan - getting himself kept in at recess for detention by talking too much in class!! - to avoid the situations where they are meanest. all because someone's moms are not able to be around very much and "model" loving behaviour. of course schoolkids are like this but my point is that he is NOT...he knows at 7 to show his love for people. i only hope he never loses this... I refused to fight the mean kids who beat on me, broke several pairs of my glasses and even broke my trombone over my head. I was much heavier and bigger than the other kids, as I went through puberty at age 8 and 9. LOL! I played the detention card too to avoid the meanies. My mother was not there for me, but a couple teachers were, which made the meanies hate me even more. I am glad he knows and gives love! Help him keep that!
