this is an article with video of kevin costner's machines built to cleanup oil from water...though it mentions the machine only treats 2000 barrels a day, there are 32 of them which if i am correct = 64000 barrels a day, not too shabby... http://cnmnewsnetwork.com/121598/bp-oil-spill-kevin-costner-oil-separator-machine-vide o/
Bp Oil Spill: Kevin Costner Oil Separator Machine & Gulf Cleanup VIDEO. The BP oil spill is approaching 60 days, and everyone has an idea of how to fix it…including actor Kevin Costner. After the Exxon Valdez catastrophe in 1989, the actor decided that he didn’t want to stand idly by should there be another oil spill.
Thank goodness he listened to his gut instinct. The actor poured in $20 million of his own money and 15 years of his time making his oil separator machine. This was accomplished through his company, Ocean Therapy Solutions.
Kevin Costner was one of the first ones to respond to the oil spill. However, it wasn’t until recently that BP tested his machine. Costner even testified before Congress about oil spill cleanup.
BP tested the machinery and issued a statement indicating that they are “excited” about its potential. The machine left the water 99% clear and pure of crude during testing.
The machines are capable of extracting 2,000 barrels of oil a day from the Gulf. Although this is a drop in the bucket compared to the tens of thousands of barrels of oil spewing into the Gulf each day, using it for cleanup once the oil has stopped will really help out when used in conjunction with other cleanup methods.
