Intelligence is an umbrella term describing a property of the mind including related abilities, such as the capacities for abstract thought, understanding, communication, reasoning, learning, learning from the experience, planning, and problem solving. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence I've always found the curved bell an interesting way to view the typical spectrum of measuring human intelligence. Whether it's correct or an ethical exercise, in my humble opinion, it's interesting. IP: Logged |

Pvt. Joe Bowers: [addressing Congress] ... And there was a time in this country, a long time ago, when reading wasn't just for fags and neither was writing. People wrote books and movies, movies that had stories so you cared whose ass it was and why it was farting, and I believe that time can come again!

Narrator: The years passed, mankind became stupider at a frightening rate. Some had high hopes the genetic engineering would correct this trend in evolution, but sadly the greatest minds and resources where focused on conquering hair loss and prolonging erections. IP: Logged |

President Camacho: Now I understand everyone's **** 's emotional right now. But I've got a 3 point plan that's going to fix EVERYTHING. Congressman #1: Break it down, Camacho! President Camacho: Number 1: We've got this guy Not Sure. Number 2: He's got a higher IQ than ANY MAN ALIVE. and Number 3: He's going to fix EVERYTHING. IP: Logged |

[cabinet has been debating putting water on the plants instead of Brawndo] Pvt. Joe Bowers: What *are* these electrolytes? Do you even know? Secretary of State: They're... what they use to make Brawndo! Pvt. Joe Bowers: But *why* do they use them to make Brawndo? Secretary of Defense: [raises hand after a pause] Because Brawndo's got electrolytes. IP: Logged |

Narrator: As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species. IP: Logged |

Abs! That is awesomely deep!!! The time HAS come!!! As my eyes widen to the beautiful sunrise, I see a golden gate opening slowly to touch the hearts of millions around the world. Peak through and you will see, not only those books and movies, but a unique and wonderous way to touch the hearts of many.....the internet! And in one little corner lies a Garden called Lindaland. Take the fruits of this Garden - be it organic, or otherwise and feel your soul transpire to heights that would make an angle dizzy!! Oh, and don't forget to fart occassionally. IP: Logged |

i thought intelligence was the job description for spies...?when i was young i didn't want any kids. too much baggage and not enough me time. my mother always used to sigh and say, it's too bad that our most intelligent young people are choosing childlessness...soon there will only be the babies of mindless (so and so's) everywhere. (of course HER children were among the former, she was smart but she WAS our mother). IP: Logged |

I really like this bit from the wikipedia:Howard Gardner ~ To my mind, a human intellectual competence must entail a set of skills of problem solving — enabling the individual to resolve genuine problems or difficulties that he or she encounters and, when appropriate, to create an effective product — and must also entail the potential for finding or creating problems — and thereby laying the groundwork for the acquisition of new knowledge. Sci fi is great and I love it, but I was thinking more of a storyline without sci-fi and based more on political/environmental impacts alongside on-going technology and ethical issues. The reason I would choose this genre is to avoid the fantasy aspect that means anything could happen, as opposed to a recipe of predictive analysis based on past and present events. I guess it's only something a genus could rite IP: Logged |

I've just googled Intelligence The Creative Response to Now.Sounds like a great read! I'm reading "Why God Won't Go Away" at the mo. The researchers discuss the parts of the brain that respond to prayer and meditation. I've only just started it, but am really enjoying the information it has to offer. IP: Logged |
