I'm doing alright. I do have a work-related injury I think. My right hand and arm have been in rather consistent pain the last five days. What did I do? Well, I type for a living, and I carry a Blackberry. I don't know if one did it more than the other, but I do think I'll need to get an appointment with a doctor pretty soon.

Otherwise, things are going alright. I spent the last couple days out of town. Lake Tahoe's supposed to have the 4th best fireworks show in the nation. It was pretty good.

Good to see you around AG. Hope your hand and arm feel better soon. I figured you were away. You seem to go on little trips during these holidays.

Hi AG - Glad to hear you're OK overall

I'm really sorry about your arm. That sounds very frustrating. I think the most common cause for pain like that would be a pinched nerve, but as far as I know - they tend to go heal on their own in a few days, sometimes a few weeks. I hope it's nothing more serious. Sending you hugs and positive energy!

Take a break from the Blackberry for a couple days if you can that should help. Get some Tiger Balm too and rub in on the ouchy parts. Tiger Balm can be found at your local co-op grocery store, it's super awesome!

Thanks!

This morning I felt a bit feverish. Something felt definitely off, and I was uncommonly warm for being in a 71 degree (farenheit) house, so I called in sick. After a few more hours of sleep I felt pretty much fine. I do have a touch of chest congestion. I see the doctor tomorrow afternoon.

Last year during the eclipses was when my brother was mugged and his hand was broken. A few months later, my hand/elbow started hurting and I am still having problems. Then, boyfriend's mother had hand surgery. And boyfriend's cat got a tumor in his little paw which was kitty cancer

Since the eclipse my hand has been hurting and acting up AGAIN.

My Leo uncle has had a problem with his arm for about a month now. It was acting up during his last few days here, and when he flew home to England, he felt ill enough to stay in bed and sleep... when he went to the doctor, they drew blood and said they wanted him in the hospital right away, but released him on Monday, having done nothing for him.

We also lost a cat, two weeks ago. Our eldest dog collapsed within twenty-four hours of the early Feb 2009 eclipse, and was put to sleep on Feb. 18th. Bert started coughing in January, as well, and started to have more problems in March (along with Rita losing her eyesight completely). And then there's relationship rubbish, and my own health.

aww, Teasel, I am so sorry

We had to put my SO's cat to sleep this past feb after the kitty cancer diagnosis and he was devastated. I had moved in a month earlier and was helping him care for a cat that had been with him for 16 or 17 years...hard stuff

Heading to the doctor now. Today's actually been the easiest pain day for my arm in awhile. Feels almost normal.

*fingers crossed*

It's funny how things just go away -right- when you're about to see a doctor.

Teasel - I'm really sorry to hear that. I love my dog so much. I'd feel like a part of me died if something happened to him.

As part of my appointment I got a new tetanus shot. My arm's already sore. I wonder why you need those every 10 years. Why or how does it run out?

The doctor did say Carpel Tunnel for hand/arm problem. He gave me some exercises to do, and let me know that if it got worse, essentially the treatment would get worse, too. First it's injections, and then it's the surgery that Gypsee said she hated. I guess I will go ahead and ask for that ergonomic keyboard at work.

Did they give you a brace to wear? My aunt had carpal tunnel and she had to wear a brace at night to keep her wrist aligned properly. Her doctor said that people bend their wrists while sleeping and that can make things worse. I hope the exercises work for you so you don't have to get shots or surgery. Definitely get an ergonomic keyboard, and an ergonomic chair also if you can.

They didn't give me, or prescribe a wrist brace, but that's not a bad idea. I do bend my wrists at night.

Find some tiger balm. I tell ya this shiz werks!

With excruciating back pain, it was/is the only thing that makes it go away.

IT's like ben-gay/icy hot on Meth it works though.

Kevin once gave me a back massage with it, and I thought I was going to set on fire

An IT guy just brought over a rather fancy ergonomic keyboard. I like it, but I'm anxious to see how it works in action. I'm already getting buttons wrong as I type this, though my brain does seem to be compensating. I think he's going to bring me a new mouse pad, too.

Just learned that my work computer has a pathetic amount of RAM also: less than one gig. I'm not surprised. My computer does tend to get hung up when doing mild multi-tasking.

Sorry to hear it's carpal tunnel AG
I hear that's painful.

And I'll...3rd that about the Tiger Balm.. it's better than Icy Hot..way better.

My ex used to have problems with his hands. Don't know if it works for carpal tunnel, but his doc told him to fill a two sided sink with one side as hot as you can stand and the other side as cold as you can stand. Take your wrist and plunge it into the hot side for something like 3 minutes than plunge it in the cold side for the same. And to do it...I forgot how many times...2 or 3 I think.
Does that sound familiar to anyone?

unknown or unacknowledged by most doctors carpal tunnel actually starts in the back and neck and results more from too much sitting without interruption than from overuse of your wrist. try a good massage therapist who has some knowledge of these things. in fact if you like i can refer you to someone in pleasanton. don't know how much they charge but i think they have a clinic where it would be cheaper.

a drummer i know who also does graphic design was hurting so much he could hardly play the drums. he realized he was sitting long stretches with the computer and bought himself a loud mickey mouse alarm clock which he put in the next room...set for an hour ahead. so every hour it would cause a racket and remind him to get up, stretch, move around...the pain started subsiding almost immediately...

and tiger balm is great too. there is also a salve called B&T sports gel, arnica based with a homeopathic ingredient which is really good for tendonitis, ruta graveolens...wholefoods sells it i know...the only contraindication is if you are very sensitive to poison ivy you should NOT use it!

my experience has been that braces actually constrict the circulation and SLOW DOWN the healing. i know people who have worn them for years and ended up getting cortisone shots or surgery...
