Happy to oblige ... I have to find ways to amuse myself now that summer vacation is here because, get this, I have to be at work (a classroom) ... in the mornings there is "summer camp" (read - normal class .... Koreans don't know when to stop) and in the afternoon is astrology facebook poker watching stuff on You Tube time! : D

- - - i just saw a cover story in time magazine asking if summer vacation was "keeping our kids back" and how too much down time was ruining their education...and i thought yeah, right, how bout too much time sitting in class saying yes sir no sir??

seems the koreans are putting us to shame or summat. yeuch. i want my grandson out of school ASAP!!

The weather is hot. However, that is not all. There is this thing ... humidity. I'm sorry, but I'm from Africa and I don't get all this water. Have you ever seen Forrest Gump ... where he's in Vietnam and he says "One day it started raining, and it didn't stop for 3 months". Well, that's summer in Asia. I'm near the coast this year where the weather is milder which means rain only about twice a week as opposed to six days a week. But that's still OK ... I mean the rain ... It's when it's NOT raining that you go outside and feel like a big hot wet blanket has been thrown over your face. Humidity always hovering around 70 percent or higher. Ergo, we're happily destroying the environment with really powerful air-conditioners that run like all the time.

kat ... don't be too worried about Korea overtaking the rest of the world education wise ... the emphasis here is on quantity, not quality ... in Korea if you want your kids to get a proper education (read, something that preps them for university entrance exams) you send them to after hours math classes, after hours English classes and after hours science classes. These places, called hagwons stay open until 1 or 2 .... IN THE MORNING!! I recently saw a movie about this problem where the student going to all these private hagwons gets asked, don't you get tired ... and he replies, no, no problem, I can sleep at school tomorrow. And they do. O believe me, they do. Basically school in Korea is like pre-prison ... there's hardly any crime because no one has the time for crime, lol! No seriously it's quite bad. If freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose then this country sure is very worried about losing an awful lot.
