Happy Left Hander's Day to all my fellow southpaws!

Did you know.....

1. Left Hander's Day was started in August 13 1976 by Left-Handers International.

2. About 7% of the population is left handed.

3. Lefties are also called "southpaws" because most baseball fields were laid out so the pitcher is facing west and the batter facing east, so the sun wouldn't be the batter's eyes. When a left handed pitcher threw a ball it was with his arm that was toward the south so left handed people started to be called southpaws.

4. In twins, there is a high tendency for one to be left-handed.

5. 1 in 4 Apollo astronauts were left-handed.

6. 4 of the 5 original designers of the Macintosh computer were left-handed.

7. Left-handers usually reach puberty 4 to 5 months after right-handers.

8. George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama are all left handed. Ronald Regan was left handed too.

9. Pablo Picasso, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Leonardo Di Vinci, and Michelangelo were also left handed.

10. Right handed people use the left side of their brains. Left handed people use the right sides of their brains.

11. Left-handers tend to adjust quickly to seeing underwater.

12. Right-handers tend to chew food on the right side, left handers tend to chew on the left side.

13. Albert Einstein was left handed.

14. Left handed people who have higher I.Q.s tend to have an I.Q. of over 140.

15. In some cultures it is impolite to touch your food with your left hand.

16. Most left-handers draw figures facing to the right.

17. Left-handers excel particularly in tennis, baseball, swimming and fencing. 40% of the top tennis pros are left-handed.

18. In the Middle Ages, writing with your left hand was punishable by death.

19. Left-handers were severely discriminated against during the 18th and 19th centuries and it was often “beaten out” of people. In adulthood, left-handers were often shunned by society, resulting in fewer marrying and reproducing

20. Half of left handed people use a computer mouse with their right hand.

21. Left-handed university students are more likely to major in visually-based, as opposed to language-based subjects. Another sample of 103 art students found an astounding 47% were left- or mixed-handed.

22. Left-handers are generally more intelligent, better looking, imaginative and multi-talented than right handers - based on discussions among members of the Left-Handers Club!

Woot Woot!

We are still discriminated against. Everything is made for righties, and we have to adapt. Oh, just see them try to adapt to be leftie!! HA! They couldn't...

Off the box now.

shrugs

I am right handed, but I am very right brained type to the point that visual/picture thinking is my primary thinking, visualizing things in my mind's eye nonstop. My mother is the same way

but we're also both left eye dominant and left ear dominant

so there are right handed people with left handed traits

but maybe it might have something to do with cross/mixed dominance

I also had fine motor skill problems as a child, and I had therapy to help me develop good use of my hands. Maybe I am naturally wired to be ambidextrous, but the therapist focused on me developing the use of my right hand. My mother and relatives told me that when I was developing,I was showing lack of certainty in handedness.

both my mother and I have Moon and Mercury in watersigns

my maternal uncle Eddie is left-handed, and he's an accountant and so great with numbers. He is very analytical, factual
interestingly, his Sun is in Virgo, and he has Mercury in Virgo trine Saturn

my maternal grandfather was lefthanded.

in spite of my problems with coordination, I was excellent swimmer since I was 3 years old. It only took a week for me to learn how to swim. It was my being against shaving hair off my body that kept me from wanting to be a competitive swimmer. I actually swam much faster underwater too. I think having wide, flat feet was a factor in that.

My Grandfather was left handed too, Glacus, but back in the day, that was a no-no for whatever reason, so in school, they either hit him on the hands with a ruler, or on some occasions, they tied his left hand behind his back.

I think it messed him up, I really do.

When I was very small I had to write all his reports for him.
He was a foreman for his job, and he could not write.
He could read, but not write.
They never knew at work because I did all the writing for him.

I like lefties. I think you guys generally fair pretty well. I think there's an inherent sensitivity in lefties that leads to some excellent work. It's one of the first things I notice about people.

Nice list there, good to know lol.

My cousin is also left handed. I read somewhere (probably here on LL) that Mercury Rx tend to be lefty's? But then again, my cousin's Merc is direct. The Chinese actually regard lefty's as more intelligent, I say, stop putting pressure on me! I'm already suppose to be good at math too, huy! lol
