thanks peri I've used google so far it's useful but if someone was crazy enough to go through all the threads already posted (which would probably take a year minimum), what would you like to see? IP: Logged |

I saw this cartoon recently: If there was a possibility for archives on LL, it would be great if they were organized under commonly accepted subject headings. Libraries have been designing wonderful ways of cataloging and arranging data since forever. What would Dewey do? There is a collection of archived strings on LL @ http://www.linda-goodman.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=A%3A000001&SUBMIT=Go

but the thing is: if I was to do it, and to organise the threads ABOUT ASTROLOGY under some common themes, what would you think those themes should be? do you even think it's a good idea? or do you think it's best to leave the past threads behind? IP: Logged |

the reason I'm posting this is that I'm getting confused. I've started archiving threads but I wonder how knowflakes would like to consult them. and how randall would make them accessible?

I'm not a fan of archiving, because basically you retire the string, since no one can reply to it.------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think." Disraeli IP: Logged |

i thought more of a database of links using keywords to group them. to put the threads out of "reach" would be counterproductive IMOIP: Logged |

pire, are you creating your own archive of LL strings for personal use? To answer your question: The Advanced Astrology forum has a naturally developed index of sorts. You can use that as your guide. Also, look at my Contents of Health and Healing thread for another idea. Not all threads are archive-worthy, no offense intended. Some stuff is just plain silly or there is be one valuable post among 30 in a thread - hardly worth saving the whole thread. You can't catalog experiences and impressions after all. On the "out-of-reach" part. Some threads are just dead and will never be brought back to the top. One could argue that if viable threads are closed then new ones will be opened in their place and that will just create unnecessary redundancy. BUT People can't find the old threads now anyway. So they start new ones. What's the point of NOT archiving then? Which brings us to the Search Option. Maybe people will use it if it existed. More old threads will be resurrected, less new repeating threads will be generated = less junk to weed through later on. IP: Logged |

Google has our whole site indexed. It's a simple matter to search. ------------------ "Nurture great thoughts, for you will never go higher than you think." Disraeli IP: Logged |

I think it's nice to have new threads all the time because as we learn and evolve our interests broaden, and something that was discussed before may not have been useful or interesting to someone THEN, but it is now. Know what I mean? Plus, there are only so many possible topics before we start repeating ourselves, so it's bound to come up over and over again about things like, "Does your asc describe your looks," etc.. BUT, if you were to organize them, you could lump them up into sub groups of astrology.. like synastries sun sign questions famous peoples charts personal planets aspects and so on... so if I wanted to see Johnny Depp's chart, I would know it's in the famous people, but I would just have to dig through them all to find it. Hi Pire, I missed you. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the feedbackregarding the thread and their value, i think they are all worthy except maybe the ones where knowflakes list their own planets or asteroids and dont develop anything. Thanks gypsee for the lovely comment IP: Logged |
