Talking about Soap Opera's got me thinking? I watched one for a looooong time--All My Children. I loved it but I made myself give it up cuz I thought it was giving me a skewed view on life lol Please talk about your favorite soap. How long have you been watching it? What does it mean to you? How has it effected your life, for good or bad? Has it shaped your world view at all, your expectations of life, in one or another? If you don't want to talk about "hard" questions then "Why do you just like it ------------------ The most beautiful things in the world can't be seen or even touched. I’m ashamed to admit this (being a male) but I do watch soaps. I used to be an avid All My Children fan for years however, I feel the story lines have been just dreadful over the last 5 or so years so I’ve stop watching.Big fan of One Life to Live and the Young & The Restless though the latter was sucking wind for a couple of years but changes in the writing staff have made the show more palatable. I have been watching Y&R / OLTL for about 15 years. I don’t feel these shows have affected my life in anyway at all, its just entertainment of the mindless kind, pure escapism. If you think about it most of these soaps pander to the MOST salacious side of the human element, it's like having to look at a car wreck on the highway when you pass by, you don’t want to watch but you just have to.

I can truthfully say that I don't watch soaps...because I only watch one. Haha!------------------ "The stars which shone over Babylon and the stable in Bethlehem still shine as brightly over the Empire State Building and your front yard today. Please talk about your favorite soap. How long have you been watching it? What does it mean to you? I've watched the bold and the beautiful a couple of years. Buth finially I got impatient with Brooke and Ridge. Please choose? How has it effected your life, for good or bad? Good. Has it shaped your world view at all, your expectations of life, in one or another? Life can be a soap opera as well. Shocking positive and negative.IP: Logged |

in my book the only thing soaps are good for is providing steady pay for the actors who work them...i try to stay away from the soap mentality as much as possible! it is far too easy to let your life become one, so i focus on other things...even if i had a tv they attract me not at all.IP: Logged |

i have one but when i moved i never bothered to hook it up. everyone i know has one so i don't miss it...if there's something i really want to watch i turn it into a social occasion. however my father's last "life partner" was an actress who was on the cast of Tommorrows World (i think) for about 20 years. most actors have no hope of such steady money, so she was very happy to have it. a lady used to come do ironing for my mom and had the soaps on while she was working...but we used to talk more than watch! there is enough soap opera mentality in real life to make watching it on tv superfluous, for me anyway.
