Perhaps, nothing is quite so humbling as helping your mom cook Christmas (or Thanksgiving, for that matter) and seeing what all she selflessly goes through each year to prepare such a magical feast. Well, half the magic is just plain hard work. The other half is love. Restaurant food can never taste like your mom's. The extra care, the added steps--nothing else compares to mom's. Seeing how much work goes into this is a very humbling experience. Often, we take this for advantage. I know I did. Let your moms know how much they mean to you this holiday season. And for those who are mothers, much love and appreciation to you. IP: Logged |

This is true, no matter whom cooks the meal!Kevin is the cook at our house, except when it comes to baking and roasting meats... IP: Logged |

I spent a lot of time on my green bean casserole and corn casserole yesterday. They get raves from EVERYONE.My 11 year old does not like them. He's at a difficult age where he hates everything. Someday... SOMEDAY he will come to appreciate it!! IP: Logged |

I'm Greek and we have a strong belief in the connection between food and emotion (Being Cancerian, that goes perfect for me)I've always loved my grandmothers food for that exact reason, the love and care and emotion they selflessly give to make sure you are nourished and happy. When I'm sick and my mum makes me some kind of soup, I feel settled and comforted. IP: Logged |

we always helped at christmas. everyone contributed a dish while my mother got the turkey and gravy etc done...so we were in on the amount of work involved at an early age.when it came my turn i was terrified, but i discovered the second year that as long as you give yourself plenty of TIME it is fun and easy to make big roast dinners happen...but when i say a lot of time, i mean a LOT of time, like all day, and some of the night before!
