So, while I was at the motel during the power outtage, I was subjected to their idea of cable (ahem) and found myself watching some kind of daytime talk show... something I would normally flip right on past..
And there was this couple who are 'The Cheapest Couple in America' or something like that.
They have 2 or 3 teenaged children and their total bills for grocery/household/pets, etc is $350.oo per month!

This is nothing new, of couse, they are the type of people who buy things in bulk when they are on sale.. clip coupons, etc.

But, what interested me was their ideas on making extra money.
They said they sell EVERYTHING online that they aren't currently using.

Including:
CD's
DVD's
Computer Misc.
Housewares
Holiday Items
Personal Items.
Collectibles... etc.

So, what I want to know is, how do you do this?
I need a good wad of money to move out of my home, and I need it quickly.
But, I have no clue how to sell things online, how to put a value on things..
how the transactions work, etc.

Does anyone have experience with this, or have any pointers? I would much appreciate it.
I would like to have around 2 grand for cusioning, so that I can pay my rent in advance.

I don't know about valuation of what you have to sell, but you can probably sell it on craigslist. That would probably be the first place I'd look at to list your stuff.

I want to sell it in lots. Like; 100 CD's for X price.. and the same with some other stuff. I guess that would be ok for Craigslist, right? I mean, it would be silly to try and sell stuff like that individually. That would take forever!
I'm going to look on Craigslist today and see what's up there.

You can also try www.backpage.com but be aware that on sites such as eBay, BP, and CL, people expect a bargain, especially in this economy. Yep, on CL you can sell that way, especially with CDs and DVDs.

Yes, I am aware, and they can have a deal!
I do not want to lug all this baggage around anymore. It doesn't serve me any longer.

Thanks for the tip, I will check out that link today!

Also, I have stuff like Tarot sets, divination tools, and stuff like that.

I wonder if anybody on CL would be interested in things like that? There should be someplace specific for New Age-y stuff, I would think?

I don't think they have a New Age category. I would try eBay for that. But it won't hurt to put it up on CL and BP, as they are both free.

Argh! This is not fun.
LOL.
I didn't realize how much time is involved in 1. Finding all my stuff, as it's not organized as well as I thought it was. For ex. I open a cd case, and the cd is NOT in there, so there I go on the hunt.. inevitably get distracted by something else, and two hours later remember I am supposed to be finding a cd.
2. Cataloging said objects. I'm a list maker, so I want it all wrote down, so that when somebody asks me what cds (movies, whatever) are they going to be getting in the lot, I can email them a complete list.
3. Seeing/testing if the stuff I have still works and is usuable. You don't even want to know the distraction level there! Especially with electronics.!

A few years ago, well, about 6 or 7, I bought this camcorder off tv. It also can be a digital camera, and it comes with it's own printer and paper. It was $500.00.
I never used it! I was too impatient to read the directions. So, the whole thing is still in the original boxes.
But, with electronics changing ever so quickly it is hard to know IF something has any value, and if so, what that value is.

My answer is.. It's coming along, slower than I would like, but then, I only blame myself because it's a giant task and I am driving myself nuts with procrastination.

EES- The reason I want to use Craigslist is b/c I can't set up any kind of online payment. I don't have a bank account, or any credit cards.
I have to do cash transactions, and if I sell stuff locally, it's easier for me to just drive to a central location and meet the person, in person.

No kidding! I think they made a movie about a Craigslist murderer. EEK.
My friend sells all kinds of Military stuff online. He's an Ex Green Beret, NOT the type of guy anybody would pick a fight with, and even He doesn't meet them at home.

He says for me to meet in a Wal-Mart parking lot, or restaurant, something like that, and that I should bring a man along with me.
He's probably right.

The very first thing I posted, which was a set of Anne Rice books, sold the next day!

It was an older lady who lived on my street!
So, I let her come and get them.
(yes, there were like 5 people here, so I was safe)
And I thought, "Man! This is awesome! I get money (alot more than if I would of sold them to a used book store, or had a garage sale) for stuff I don't want! How cool is that!"

So, now I am stoked and finding all kinds of things that I never thought to sell.
For ex. someone has their medical scrubs on CL for a pretty darn high price.
Medical scrubs are pretty expensive, and when you work in that field, you end up with alot of them.
So, today I got them outta the attic, and I am washing them.
Tomorrow, they get photographed and put up.

I put up more books, and some collectibles, but I haven't made a dent yet.

If anyone else does this, I suggest getting yourself a notebook, and record everything, cause it gets confusing. Especially if you have ALOT of stuff.. you'll want to remember what you posted, when, and what you said in your add.
(You could look this all up on CL, but having it right there on paper is handy, that way when it sells, you know to cross it off your list, and remove it from CL.)

If you accidently post twice, it's marked as spam, so that's another reason a notebook is a good idea.

Make sure you read, read, read the ads, so you get an idea of what is NOT selling (which may be due to cost, and you can mark your accordingly) and what IS selling, so you can sell yours too!

All in all, I think it's a great way to raise up cash, recycle goods, and lighten your load.

Scrubs should sell like hotcakes. Sounds like a good idea for a second-hand clothing concept. You have a great system worked out. I like systematic things.

Thanks Randall- I have a grand trine in Earth, MUST HAVE A SYSTEM, the brain says..lol. Not to mention I have a 6th house stellium, so the Virgo-ness comes shining through too (except in my typos, which I usually keep because they amuse my sag parts. ahaha)

EES~ You are on my FB, there is a photo album on there of things I'm selling, have you a look.

I'm currently trying to decide what to price Kurt Cobain's 'Journals' book.
A good friend said that I shouldn't sell it b/c I guess Kurt didn't want that info out.
In good times, I probably would of taken that advice, but, the book is out there, and I really need the cash-ola.
Hopefully I won't get any bad karma from that.

Wow, I just finished looking, OMG DO NOT sell that!! Hold on to it for now. I know for a fact you could get a pretty penny for that thing (if you decide to sell it)
Nice Anne Rice collection, you're gonna sell the rest of your stuff fast!

Thanks EES! My picture taking leaves alot to be desired, but I'm learning.
I'm gonna put a link up about photographing stuff to sell, in case anybody else wants to try this.

That's only a few things.. I haven't put all the pics on FB yet, so keep watching!
I appreciate the feedback.
Got all my scrubs on CL today, and also a collection of Disney movies.
I have the original Little Mermaid that they re-did because there was a penis put on the picture subliminally. (I know, hard to believe).

RE: Kurt's book. I haven't put it on CL yet.
I can't remember the debate about it.
I think Cortney found the notebook, and had it made into a hardback book, if I remember right..
It's full of hand drawn pics, poems, lyrics, all that kind of stuff, plus personal entries.
I'm not sure if it's still in print or not.
That's something I have to research, which is why I didn't put it on CL just yet.

You might get more on eBay for something like that. It could create a bidding war/feeding frenzy.

Maybe so! I wouldn't mind shipping something like a book, that wouldn't be bad, it's just the payment option that could pose a problem.

I'll have to check ebay out, and see if they have Kurt's journal there already, and if so how much. At the very least I might get an idea of its value.
