I am considering teaching Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) to a select few here at Lindaland. I'm thinking maybe via webinars. The group will be small enough so that you can ask questions as we go. If I decide to teach Knowflakes, it will be free. Who would be interested in learning?

Let me clarify what NLP means to me. It was created by two gentlemen (you can read the background on the net), but I had no real knowledge of it until a few years ago (I had heard the term before, but I didn't really know the details of what it was). During the course of various business pursuits, I found that I had a way with words. It was especially helpful for me when negotiating. I found that I could decipher rather quickly the other party's motivations and understand them at a level which enabled me to address them, so that both myself and the other party were pleased with the outcome. I would find myself in similar situations with similar motivations, and almost by osmosis created verbal cues and linguistic scripts whch allowed a positive desirable outcome which was mutually beneficial for all parties. I found by practice that these approaches were very effective. On the phone with one of my students a few years ago, he said, "That's NLP" I was like, "Huh?" Although, yes, I had heard the term before. Apparently, I had been using NLP without really knowing it! I just created scripts that work for me in the real world based upon what I was doing at the time (solving problems in real estate). So, that is what I will be teaching--how you can do the same and apply it in YOUR sphere of influence. But I have had no formal training in NLP; it is a huge branch that spans a lot of disciplines. One could never learn it all. And I'm not into spouting off a lot of theory. But upon reviewing it, yes, what I was doing/am doing is probably best classified under the umbrella of NLP. Everything I will teach was self-taught, self-learned through experience, and innovated by me. But no, I am not the creator of NLP. For example, just like I didn't create real estate, but several of my real estate techniques are original approaches that I created. Does that make sense? Life is all about communication. Becoming an effective communicator and expressing oneself via language is a key component to one's outcomes. And like anything else, it can probably be misused for manipulation, but that is not what I will be teaching in any way, shape, or form. It can give you an advantage in certain situations (especially in nergotiations of any type), but your goal should not be "winning." It should be that everyone is happy with the outcome.

Yes, I understand, Randall. I went to look it up before I requested to participate. I think it'd be beneficial for me especially when I graduate and pitch my art into the real life world

Sure Randall, I'm in. I had an NLP book once, I was interested but never took it much further. But I have listened to talks about those who have misused it and how it can be properly used.
I feel like learning more now since the opportunity is here. I am not a very good communicator like in the examples you gave.

“It’s an interesting thing. Seeing Kuan Yin relating to a flower so intently. She's not just looking at it; she's interacting with it…I’m seeing how the act of relating to a flower appears to be so simple. Yet, it takes a tremendous amount of courage to make such a “simple” act important. Now, the lotus is floating away.”
