Trend Micro put out an update on cybercrime affecting facebook & twitter. Threat and Cybercrime Trends: Facebook Malware Surprise. Facebook remains one of the most popular social networking sites to date. With more than 500 million active users, it’s not surprising that cybercriminals are leveraging the site for their own malicious purposes. Trend Micro recently came across another such attempt in the form of Facebook’s on-site chat feature, which was used to infect unsuspecting users’ systems. The threat came in the guise of a personal message from one’s Facebook friends. The message contains a link that points to a Blog*Spot (now Blogger) page along with the text “I got u surprise.” Clicking the link redirects the user to a legitimate-looking Facebook application download page where the surprise supposedly awaits. Clicking the “Get a Surprise Now!” image that pops up instigates the download of TROJ_VBKRYPT.CB onto one’s system. This Trojan downloads TROJ_SOCNET.A which sends messages to the affected users’ Facebook or Twitter friends or contacts. This message contains a link to the site that hosts the malware from which the entire chain started, making the attack self-sustaining and more dangerous. read full article > http://us.trendmicro.com/us/trendwatch/flod/20110225/spotlight.html ------------------ What we do for ourselves dies with us. I was targeted with a simple add-on that sent out to my friends a program to check who was stalking your page...It upset me, a lot. Then some other privacy stuff annoyed me, and I just deleted the whole thing. I have not missed it. I don't really want to social network outside of who I interact with at my job, and within my range of family and friends. IP: Logged |

Ohhh, that's where you went PlutoSquared. I couldn't find your golden picture anymore, and I wasn't sure if you just changed it or what happened. I didn't remember your name to look for it.IP: Logged |

I've left Facebook and didn't look back It's kinda liberating, actually. Makes the world a little more challenging and mysterious, again IP: Logged |

I'm not on it much. I see the appeal, though. I'm waiting for Google's new version to come out.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." It's fun when bored. Lindaland keeps me swamped, though.------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |
