Have been curious as to why there are a handful of people here who quote everything a person says, in its entirety, to them and usually BOLD it...before they respond back ? Couldnt you just address the person using their name in the beginning, so they know you are responding to them?Is it a way to take control and their rights to Edit away? So their words are set in stone and they can't change them because you have copied them and they can't edit your post? I don't get it and don't think I'm the only one who's become more cautious of posting because of it. Can't you respond to someone without quoting the entire response they posted to you, beforehand? I don't get it. Can anyone explain to me, what gives? IP: Logged |

lol you two. Doesnt twist my panties either Lonake. But i think it's a bit rude to do so every time. Some people might later want to edit personal info out for many reasons. Get what I'm saying? What's wrong with addressing them by their name when responding back...rather than quoting every word they say each time? Seems more personal to use their name anyway. IP: Logged |

Well, I think it is respectful of what people have written to refer to it. If it is not to that person, perhaps they should say, please don't quote me, so people will know. ------------------ Life is lived in the sand box. I'm just saying, maybe quote the part you are referring to, if you have to and not the entire post, especially when it's long? Just a personal preference. IP: Logged |

T,I often quote the specific sentences I'm responding to within the quote option... That way it's not super long and tedious to read through. IP: Logged |

It most definitely is the QUOTE button, and I find it quite annoying, too, especially when they follow this incredibly long quote with only a smile or a thumbs up. I agree, either address the person, so they know who you are responding to, or learn the code (

).IP: Logged |

it's the quote button. it bolds the text automatically as someone already said above.i do this usually when i'm referring to someone's posts that's not immediately before me. if i just mention the poster's name, i can still be confusing which part of what the person said i might be referring to, so i quote. i think it's a friendly way to make it easy to follow? but i agree with the suuuuper long posts being quoted. they can be edited down... but then, they look obviously quotes from previous posts, so you just don't need to read it? Also to caution when putting ANY personal pictures up .It becomes part of the quote and if you regret it later, it will take a mod to remove it. quote: I find it quite annoying, too, especially when they follow this incredibly long quote with only a smile or a thumbs up

Thinking process... yep. I like the phrase "socially inept." In this case, however, the social ineptitude gains impetus from technical ineptitude. Double whammy. IP: Logged |

Nice to know i'm not the only one. Seems we mostly all agree and now some others are at least aware of how others see it, what they are doing and maybe how to adjust a bit.I don't like having to scroll through long repeats of posts for no reason either. IP: Logged |

You can delete pictures in a quote if you change the name of your photo or delete it from your webspace / web host.I like it when people briefly quote what that are responding to - especially in a long thread. It helps to not have to go back pages and try to decipher which post someone is responding to. If people want to have private conversations they shouldn't be posting on a message board where others are involved. Common, basic 101 Internet etiquette that people usually learn after being online for a couple months is that, yes, it is way annoying when people don't edit the quote they are using and leave a 5 paragraph quote in their post. You know, T, I think it bothers me because I know others do it... change their words... but I never did other than fixing grammar and spelling and tidying up my own words to make the writing pop more... editing in the best way, if you will. The only thing I ever remember erasing was a thread of posts with a lot of deep intimate thoughts about a guy I had a crush on who later got a gf. I don't tell anyone about LL, but I do consistently use the same screenname so there is a small chance someone could have found it... say a jealous crazed gf on a mission, for example, so I erased the info to protect the innocent so to speak. Therefore, since people much of the time in the past have quoted entire posts of people in order to preserve what they feel is evidence, I find it offensive if I am quoted in the entirety... unless what I posted is short and worthy of The Book Of Best Quotes hardback edition. I am ok with quoting entire sections and then writing your response and then quoting the next section and writing your response etc. That does make the conversation easier to follow since this format does not allow your to respond directly below the comment you are addressing. So, there are my thoughts on THAT. Also, I'm not saying everyone who quotes has bad intentions. Until you get to know people, you can never be sure of their intentions. IP: Logged |

and AG, YESSSSS! When you are using this place deeply, you don't want to scroll down your entire life for junk that doesn't need to be there. It also can't be good to pile more useless crap on the server. I mean I used to only have to scroll that much on threads where Glaucus was posting... lol love to ya, Glaucus, yer growin' on me, yer growin' on me. IP: Logged |

Hi Mel, I agree with what you said mostly. I also don't think people's intentions were bad....did cross my mind though.I agree, editing can be done for so many reasons. Typos, having a realization and later editing in more thoughts, clarifying them, seeing things that happened in the past differently and no longer wanting your outdated thoughts hanging around. And for personal safety, stalker issues. The list goes on. I've been known to delete entire posts i've made for various reasons. Some people do this more than others. Guess it comes down to alot of things for the individual and I'm glad we have the edit button. IP: Logged |

Good info as I didn`t think of that! I typo badly & edit them.. I am the worst typist on the planet. Hunt & peck and it is shameful. I took gardening & music class`s instead of good old fashioned typing class`s. With a nit picky Virgo moon, that was an "in hind sight" bad choice. lol, I just edited the "a" to the proper "an" ------------------ ~The Earth Laughs In Flowers~ ... Emerson IP: Logged |

I usually ask people to not quote me, for just that reason: I might want to edit, especially if something is personal.
