I just want to write that I think there is a very simple solution to all these arguments.
Each and every person has a right to form an opinion, to express that opinion and to defend that opinion. It does not make her or him a bully to do that.

However... when it comes to replying to someone else's thread who is expressing an opinion, of which you disagree with completely and might feel hurt or attacked by the thread, unless it is a thread to personally and directly insult you...then please just ignore it.

I personally enjoy reading posts from all people here at LL, past or present and have felt quite sad about past people leaving or being banned. This could be prevented if people chose not to reply or bow out from a thread before becoming either emotionally affected or hurling personal insults.

Come on people use your own internal intellectual power and stay away from unnecessary conflict.

Yes. I agree.
Simple, elegant and not offensive.
I often ask the question, when replying to something I find offensive, what am I saying in reply? Is it really about them or me? IF it's really that offensive then it really doesn't deserve any attention, does it?

Absolutely Sunchild,
And Thank you!

And we can afford to think before we post...we have plenty of time to do it. That's what is unique about online forums.
People have all kinds of reasons for holding the opinions they do.
Crucially some people are more than aware of emotionality than others.

So...
Put conscious thought into it. There is no need for ANYONE to leave or be banned......unless they are Spammers!

Well said Quinnie and Sunchild.

Only the position or point of a person is to be debated, there is no need nor any gain in anyone making personal accusations against others. The ones who have been offended, welcome the offense with some forgiveness, it is free burning off some of your karmic debts.

Yes the line crossing into personal accusations is too often over stepped and things go downhill from there. What you said IQ
reminded me of Randall's forgiveness affirmation, I think it can apply here.

Sunchild...What's the affirmation? ...

BTW Hurt is a subconscious defence mechanism...to protect aspects or pieces of your ego...or soul....
So is attacking...If we realise we are hurting or attacking...then we can chose to look at what we are protecting...I hope it's worth the protection...

I learned so much through this last interaction,as I ,always, do through the LL situations.
Coffee brought underlying issues to light
I ,agree,with Quinnie.
I realize that LL is NOT for some people.
The last two mod's that left wanted LL to be sanitized.
The world cannot be sanitized. One must learn to walk through the world with one's integrity, intact.
That is a hard,hard lesson.
One must be part of one's fellow man BUT also ,an individual.
Coffee offended many people but each person's reaction was his OWN free choice.
Coffee did not make people react a certain way.

Someone said horrible things about Jews.I walked away.
The important point for ME was that I walked away with dignity.
No one can take that dignity away from me.
I am the only one who can throw it away.

I think the other thing about these lessons is that you are NEVER gonna learn them.
On your death bed, there will be a thousand unlearned lessons lol

Believe me if people put conscious thought to it they will have something nasty to say about everyone, whether it is the clothes they are wearing or their religious beliefs. That's unfortunately inevitable but we can chose not to be affected by someone's words by walking away or refraining from judgement, for at least the time being. I always say to myself...stand back and let the drama roll out, before you contribute to it...When you watch as a bystander the victims and persecutors are sometimes quite difficult to discern.

Hmmmm Pluto why do you make me delve such depths!

Thanks for raising the average I.Q. around here by a few points!

About that last one -- and here is as a good example of the Libran need to balance everything -- the world cannot be sanitized, but neither should we allow others to dump mud in our living room and just wallow in it. I agree, wholeheartedly, that we should stay away from unnecessary conflicts.

I agree, Rogue
The people who dump mud in our living room should be "escorted " to the door

But imho, methinks the ego has oodles of trouble distinguishing necessary from unnecessary. So we practice evaluating the difference to become successful knowers.

May we all find success
