Today is the 121st day of 2011. There are 244 days left in the year.

May Day, an annual holiday taking place on May 1, has its roots in pagan fertility rites and festivals. But it has evolved quite a bit since those ancient, initial celebrations. Today, the holiday is still celebrated in a few Western countries with festival activities that can be traced back to old European

My May Day means spring flowers, sunshine and the sweet smell of the earth being plowed for spring plantings.
Migratory birds winging through and the return of the hummingbirds.

One of my favorite abundant midwest May flower is the trillium.

Share your May wildflowers and fun things you do !!

Happy May Day

Yes well, I went to wash my face this morning in May dew which I try to do every year as according to old custom it will guarantee my stunning good looks for another 12 months.
And what did I find?
No dew
Because good people we have had no rain for flippin' weeks!
No rain in England.
Whatever next?
So my neighbours were probably looking bemused as some mad woman crawled around on the lawn at 6.45 am rubbing her hands along the grass muttering "Dry as a bone, dry as a bone"
Which is probably what my skin will now be like without the magical properties of May Day dew.
No truly...it is an English custom

Yes it is an English custom, I have a book called the dictionary of superstitions that I bought about 25 years ago, its full of old things like washing your face in may dew,a very interesting book.! I spent the afternoon planting out some veg in my garden. Hail the Queen of the May.

there's customary parties and riots everywhere on the street here in my city, and everywhere police police police, as usual.

i went around in the afternoon, and there were loads of fashionable foreign art people and tourists hanging around with Jazz and pop bands on every corner. what happened to all the leftists and punk rock bands!? weirrrd!!

tonight i stay inside this year though... it's cold! i can hear the street chaos anyway. maybe next year i join the partee.

lechien, did the rat go to the party too ?

bunnies, I love the ritual of washing one`s face in the morning dew. I had never heard it before and just may adopt it. No dew? We have had heavy dew all week so if you had asked, I would have shipped you some

I gathered rocks for my ever growing rock bed. There`s something about glittering granite in morning sun that feels comforting.

I scattered some pansy seeds in them and await their smiling faces.

No Maypole dancers??

Jeez juni...it.s more complicated than I thought!
Whatever you do, don't bathe in May or wash your blankets.
Basically a smelly month for all then

Unbelieveable it`s May 5 th already.

Time is running away and I can`t catch it .

Any one noticed the sunny months seem like days and fly by us?

Grasp each day and revel in it because you can never live it over
