Do you recall any synchronous events that made such an impact that you will never forget them? I've had these happen a lot, but they are usually small things that I don't recall now. The latest was on Saturday. I was in the mall, and I took a detour (based on indecision at the time) and went inside a store that I normally don't go in, and I bumped into a friend I hadn't seen in years. I should have already left the mall by then, so this was a happy coincidence. And isn't that what synchronicity is--just a meaningful coincidence? But the one I will never forget happened years ago and involved Linda. I was reading Gooberz for the 4th time, and I was on the part about Yellow Wax and the ants. Of course, my eyes were teary-eyed. Anyone who has read that part can attest to how sad it is. I looked up on the top of the left page, and there was this tiny little black ant crawling on the page (I called it a baby ant, but I have no idea if it was a baby or just a small ant). That was so shocking to see. I mean, where did this ant come from? It had to crawl inside my room (no ants anywhere else that I could see) and at that moment in time while I was reading about ants in Gooberz crawl on to the page. At the time, I took it as a sign that Linda's spirit was watching over me. But maybe it was just a nod from the Uni-verse that there is a Higher Power. I mean, what are the odds such a thing could happen randomly? Anyway, I gently let the ant down on my window sill, and I hope it found its way back home to its ant family. Well, that's my synchronicity experience--what's yours?

This is one of my favorite topics.. so I'm going to come back to this thread tonight after work.

I have experienced a number of synchronous events - like thinking of someone I haven't seen or heard from in years, and then finding out some news about them or having them call - and others that take my breath away..

But more on that this evening..

Your experience with the ant - so cool, btw! - reminds me of this oft quoted incident where the psychiatrist sees a golden beetle outside his window - know the one I'm talking about? I'll look it up to quote later..

Sigh, I really should get back to work now, but had to say one more thing..

There is so much beauty in synchronous events.. it literally takes my breath away when such 'coincidences' happen, because it seems to hint at a grander plan for the Universe and its Creator, that there may be no real coincidences.. We become so busy with our day to day lives and mundane concerns, always striving to put in efforts pushing toward some desired end, that it comes as a shock to realize we are in fact going where we are intended to all along. Sometimes our efforts are in keeping with the plan and we know this when things run smoothly & effortlessly. At other times, going against the flow may be met with disappointment. The beauty in the process comes when we realize that going "with the flow" keeps us on track with the grand plan, and that disappointments along the way may just be leading us away from what isn't right for us.

Speaking of "flow", there is a wonderful book about synchronicity called "The Power of Flow" by Charlene Belitz & Meg Lundstrom, and I highly recommend it:
http://www.amazon.com/Power-Flow-Practical-Mea ningful-Coincidence/dp/060980197X/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1305053779&sr=1-3

Now, I REALLY oughta tear myself away to get back to work, but will return later...

Loved the ant story, Randall. Really did. I am blown away. That almost beats my story with the song request on the radio...

Randall...that had to be a message from Linda...

I can't think of any synchronisties, except for the countless numbers of times when I am finishing a text to my sister only to get a call from her before I get to send it! That happens lots!

I found the story of the psychiatrist who spotted the beetle in a synchronous event - it is the father of Synchronicity (or at least the one who coined the term), Carl Jung. Here it is:

"One of the synchronicity episodes that really intrigued Carl Jung occurred with a patient recounting her dream of a golden scarab beetle. A young woman that Jung had been treating told him of a dream in which she had been given a golden scarab. He was sitting with his back to a closed window while she told him the dream.

Suddenly he heard a gentle tapping and turned to see a flying insect knocking against the window-pane from outside. Jung opened the window and caught the creature in the air as it flew in. The insect closely resembled a golden scarab. In actuality it was a scarabaeid beetle, the common rose-chafer (Cetonia aurata).

Normally, such insects would not come into a dark room, but at the same moment the patient mentioned the beetle she had been given in her dream, this beetle appeared at Jung’s window. He was quite astonished at the coincidental timing and admitted that nothing like it ever happened to me before or since." Synchronicity, An Acausal Connecting Principle, by C G Jung ,Pg. 22.

Your experience with the ants reminded me of this story, Randall..

My experiences with synchronicity run the gamut from times when I've had a friend I haven't thought of in a long time suddenly call or email me, to a few that have felt very significant to me.

When I had moved back to town after a couple years away in another state and a divorce, as I drove to the post office one day, I found myself thinking fondly of my old sweetheart who I had considered the love of my life. A song that was quite significant to us ("Every Breath You Take" by the Police - for it had played at a very poignant moment) came on the radio just then. I suddenly noticed that I was driving behind a car that had his name in block letters on the back (it was the name of the dealership where the car was bought, which is in a town a couple hours away from here). On reaching the post office, I found myself turning onto a street that also bore his name. This series of coincidences came a few months before he & I ended up getting back together, so it seemed significant to me.

There was also one synchronous event in particular that I remember from my teens, that stays with me to this day. It happened about a month after my beloved granddad had passed away. A friend of mine was visiting my family, and as we hung out, he asked for paper to draw me something, which I thought was strange since we weren't little kids any more, but I complied. When he handed me the drawing, I was moved to tears to see a picture of an elephant he had sketched, which exactly resembled the sketches my granddad had always drawn for me when I was a child. My granddad was very fond of elephants and always drew them for all his grandchildren.

Another one came around the time I got my current job. I had already emailed the HR person my resume in response to 2 different job ads at this startup company, in vain. So, one afternoon while I was visiting in town, I decided to drop by to see if I could hand over my resume in person to HR to nudge it along a little bit. When I approached the building, after a couple of unanswered knocks, I tried the door and found it unlocked. Wandering down the hall looking for someone with whom to talk, I ran into a man who turned out to be the CEO, and he interviewed me on the spot. He arranged to have me brought out again to interview with everyone else, and I ended up getting the job. What was strange, is that the door to the building was always locked for security reasons since everyone worked in the lab in the middle of the building, and given his schedule, it was quite a rare coincidence that he should have been there that day when I happened by through the unlocked door. I guess I was supposed to get the job; I am still working here nearly 5 years later!

I have been lucky to have a few other synchronous events occur, and some have helped guide my decisions at times by confirming to me when I may be on the right path. I get goosebumps sometimes; there is such remarkable beauty in the fact that the fabric of the universe seems to be made up of invisible threads that connect everything and everyone. It moves me that SomeOne out there is nice enough to respond to me sometimes.. and nice to know that we all matter!

Gosh, I'm really sorry for monopolizing the thread, and for going on... I just got carried away, and hope others will share their experiences too! I just got way excited; I really need to tone it down sometimes.. (I'm going to blame my Mercury square Pluto natal aspect for how I sounded.)

p.s. I haven't read the Yellow Ants book, but your experience sounds thrilling.. like Linda was gently indicating her presence.. something to cherish.

Don't apologise Sunshine, its great to hear your experiences!

I don't think I've had any :-(

I don't even see odd number combinations... I used to, it was always 2:22 or 3:33 etc.... 2 nights ago, for the first time in years I noticed the time on my clock as my head hit my pillow was 01:11. Maybe its the start of me being more tuned in?

I love Synchronicity... and it's funny, it happens all the time in a million little ways, but to quote a story right now? Nothing's coming to me, each time I am reverent for the experience though.

I think seeing repeating numbers is definitely the sign of tuning in to the frequency of the universe.

I'm guessing you may have had synchronous experiences before, but perhaps not connected them with anything relevant. I think the universe sends us signals all the time, it's just that sometimes we are more tuned in, and ready to receive. I'm sure you'll start to see patterns if you look for them too..

How about those times when you drive up to the front of the crowded parking lot at the mall, and a car vacates a spot for you just as you get there?

Or when you're thinking about someone, and a song that reminds you of them plays on the radio?

Or when you're thinking about someone, and they call you just then?

How about those times when you're unsure about applying for a particular job or other opportunity, and then suddenly it seems like you keep hearing about it?

Synchronicity, it seems, can manifest in so many different ways..

This one *might* qualify..... it goes into the 'strange' category.(also the 'mischievous kid' category)

My hubby was on afternoons, got home at two am, so all week, I've been waiting for him for the most part, but still getting up early in the mornings for kids etc...so today I took the opp for a little sleep-in. I had a dream that I was in my house, and a little toddler just came in, and we didn't know who he belonged to... He showed up, and we went...what? and then saw that the front door was open....so he'd just come in.. and then the rest of my dream was 'how do we get him home'....it was a tad stress-inducing.
Then I awoke to the sound of the front door opening. I knew noone was in the house, other than my four year old, my hubby and me. I was like 'is that the door?'
hubby ignored it and kept sleeping.... I get up to see that my escape artist Macguyver of a son had used his toothbrush on the child-locks on the door handle, and had escaped, to go play in the front gardens, and then, he told me, to go play in our car (!!!)
I put a stop to it really quick, believe me!!! (Picture a preschooler with an 'I'm free!' look on his face, wearing spiderman pajamas, smiling gaily in the front yard for thirty seconds until you hear an angry mom voice behind him draining him of his happiness)
That kid is smart. And uses his brilliance for duplicitous purposes.

Anyway- so the synchronicity is- I dreamed about a small child coming in through the front door, to be woken by my child leaving by the front door. Both things aren't supposed to happen.
hahahahaha
